I love everything about this place - from the fun decor to the bird-inspired cocktails. Glad we stopped in. The Pocono pasta and the roasted oysters were to DIE for! Cant' wait to come back!
Had dinner for four on a Monday night so it was probably quieter than ususal. We started off sharing the "Wings and Rings" plus the "When Pigs Fly" appetizers. A+ for the presentation and they were both tasty! For our entrees, the pasta special of the day was a cheese and spinach ravioli that was very good. The roasted chicken tasted better than it looked! The branzino was well prepared. Good service, good drinks. This is a good option for drinks and/or dinner before an event at the Garden.
For the second time in 4 months Woodpecker did not disappoint! The food is so good you’d expect it to cost twice what it does! The staff is absolutely top notch too!
Great meal at Woodpecker! The food was delicious, service on-point and ambiance lively and fun. Can’t wait to go back!
Just yummy! We were a large party and had excellent service. The bread and butter was amazing. Wood fired margherita pizza, dry aged cheeseburger and the pastas were great too :) would recommend for drinks and tapas before or after a show.
They were very accommodating to my family. Pork chop was excellent. Charbroiled oyster’s were overpowered by the topping leaving no oyster flavor. Cocktail was well balanced and the wine was great for the price. My experience with Burke restaurants is that they are always 4 Star experiences but never 5.
Great meal as always. Happy hour rolled right into dinner. Great specials at the bar. Every bite was perfectly prepared. Service was very attentive and there when needed without being annoying
Can't wait to go again
It was my friend’s Birthday and I made reservation with corresponding comments. They totally accommodated it by getting us a big private table and have been very attentive the entire night! And surprised us with a nice arrangement of the Birthday dessert! My friend was very happy!! And we had great time! Food was delicious and the devise was amazing! They didn’t rush us in the end and let us enjoy every sense moment of it. Totally recommend this place for any occasion, Especially in a hipster style
Went here for my sons birthfay. We live 2 blocks away. We enjoyed our meal and the gm was very nice and accommodating. We had the bacon which everyone loved. All our meals were good and the manager insisted Andy get a birthday cake. He gave us the cheesecake pops. Delish! Will return.
A truly wonderful dining experience. Brilliantly creative food that's not fussy or precious.
Bartender Jason’s attitude was damaging to the environment and the other employees
Loved spending my birthday there. Would bring my family.
Great food and great service but VERY loud. The seafood was cooked well.
Acoustics are bad and made worse with louder music.
Great choices and prices for happy hour! Would definitely go back.
Loved the smokey apple tart! Very noisy though
It is punishingly loud, otherwise it was an absolutely delicious dinner.
Unfortunately I would expect a lot more from a David Burke restaurant. First, the music was so loud and it was club music, which doesn’t go with the ambience of the rest of the place. They wouldn’t turn it down either after I asked. The experience of asking was also strange - I asked the hostess and she said she couldn’t but to ask the manager because if she asked, the woman wouldn’t listen to her. I asked the manager myself and she still didn’t do anything about it. She was unfriendly to our table and seamed overwhelmed with her responsibilities.
Second, they were out of our bottle of wine but it took 20 minutes to find that out.
Third, they cleared each persons plate as people finished instead of waiting until everyone was done. I would expect better from a restauranteur.
Amazing, creative both in preparation and presentation!
We came here on Friday night, to be honest, because we couldn't find a reservation for 3 at 7:30pm anywhere else on such short notice. The ambiance is good, but let me say (and I know it is because the restaurant is newer), the service was sooooo slow. Getting our waiters attention was so difficult, and everything took a very long time. We didn't receive the bottle of wine we ordered until we were already finished with out entrees. Speaking of food, it wasn't bad, but nothing to write home about. We got the hipster fries, but they were basically just normal fries with some parmesan on top. I got the squid ink pasta fra diavolo and it has a nice level of spice and it was a hearty portion. My husband and uncle enjoyed the octopus and the branzino, but again, just ordinarily good. If given the option, I would not return.
Slow service. Food mediocre- not impressive at all. Beautiful cool space
Great food, outstanding services, fun and upscale decor.
You won’t be disappointed. Wow! The roasted oysters are awesome and the octopus and scallops are mixed with spices that will leave you wanting more....so come back and have it again! David Burke does it again!
Creative recipes, and amazing presentations.
I heard about this new restaurant by a celebrity chef David Burke. Wanted to try.
The decor is all wood with woodpecker accents on the walls. Even bow ties on waiters' uniforms are carved out from 2 shades of wood. :)
The food was really good and the presentation too. However, the dishes that we ordered and took a peek from yelp reviewers were different when served. For instance, the lamb chops on the smoked hay on the pix were supposedly on the burning grass. Ours came on the plate, on top of the cous cous. I guess they change the presentation. We also had scallops and octopus. Although delish, I wanted to see more that just 2 scallops for the price of the dish.
The dessert of apple tart with caramel sauce was also delish, however, the pix i viewed were served different. I guess I went in having a certain expectation for a presentation, and although still good and yummy, was a bit let down when it came out looking differently.
Overall, the service was amazing. The chef himself circled the crowds, the managers came over twice to check on us. One of his signature dishes is a bacon roasted on a clothline. He is roasting the bacon himself. Although we didnt get to try, i seen pix and i seen people ordering them.
I would totally recommend the place to try.
Also a plus for us was a walking distance to Penn Station to catch trains home.
Excellent menu, food quality and service. Also had a great opportunity to meet David Burke. Added to my favorite list of mid-town restaurants -- as a local!
Fantastic food, great service. Very helpful server
They we’re very hospitable regarding changes to our reservation, but the service was slow and a little labored, as it seemed our waiter was too busy doing other tasks to handle a drink order mid-meal. A momentary lapse from an otherwise great restaurant group
Never had bacon prepared or presented that way, was a creative twist twist.
Menu was equally creative. Loved the cavatelli.
Woodpecker lives up to its reputation as another one of David Burke’s restaurants. It was great to see the chef himself at the kitchen! My only complaint is that the music is SUPER loud. I like a lively environment but I wish they could bring down the music by few decibels.
The sound level here was unreal. Music blasting and conversations around place got louder. Could not even hear across the table. Horrible experience for ambience but the food was very good and service very good also.
They certainly need better acoustics !!
I went there a month ago 1 st time.. Loved it .. Recommended to a friend.. and we went back .. Food was not great and ambiance was so so .. too Loud not possible to talk .. Tables have 3 '' interval between each other.
At the end .. something got really burnt at the kitchen and room was filled with a very bad smell. We left.
Order the clothes line bacon!
Fun food, great presentation!
Outstanding selection of appetizers and main courses
Not to impressed nor interested by any of the desert choices.
Wines selection pretty good and fairly priced!
Another great David Burke restaurant. Food, service, menu and ambiance are all top notch.
Great meal loved it. Service was on point. Congratulations chef Burke
Food just ok. My husbands seafood dish was way too spicy and waiter just shrugged his shoulders and riled his eyes when he told him. Chicken dish was just ok. Pizza appetizer was good.
Amazing pasta and mushroom spinach side. Great drinks (Jason the bartender 💯). Check it out.
We had belated birthday brunch Food and drinks are totally enjoyable. I will go again for dinner.
