Woodpecker by David Burke
This was not up to David Burke’s standards.
We were really excited about this menu before tasting it, but found ourselves let down. Short version of the story is that most of the food we ordered was overcooked and the experience fell short due to poor execution. I sent a private message to the restaurant with specifics a few days ago, but I guess they didn't care to respond.
The food was very good with some creative items on the menu. Value not great but I will recommend Woodpecker. Service was excellent.
LOVE the decor, food is brilliant, interesting and delicious, with little entertaining twists. The 'Bacon Clothesline' is genius and super tasty. Couldn't recommend it enough, love David Burke restaurants and the cook book is amazing also, I love making the lamb shank recipe.
Lackluster dated menu and lukewarm food. Service was good, but service doesn't make up for meh food. The Goat Cheese Gnocchi would have been stellar had it been hot. Expected a little bit more from this David Burke restaurant.
A little expensive but the food was good, they were prompt and although it was very loud, it was still inviting.
Again an outstanding experience all around. Atmosphere, food and service just fantastic. Never been disappointed at Woodpecker. I enjoy getting there about a half hour before my party and enjoying a drink or two at the bar. The bar staff are second to none.
Cocktail was very good. Limited wine selection. Each of the three food dishes were very poor. We began with a selection of baked oysters. My partner thought the half shell was missing the oyster, but it may have been chopped up with the scant selection of other ingredients. We shared a wood-fired chorizo, octopus, and pepadew pizza. I cannot recall any octopus, there were scanty pieces of pepper, and a fair amount of little chorizo chunks. The crust was wood-fired, but overall the pizza was unimpressive. Our last dish was a cavatelli with spicy lamb sausage. It was pretty good, but not amazing. The prices were very high for the quality of the food. We will not return .
Service & food were great, as always! Bench seating is a little hard.......
I've been three times and love it. Great food and atmosphere. Can't wait to go again.
What a huge disappointment. Wish I would have read the reviews. Took a client to dinner tonight.
Drinks- specialty cocktails, probably the highlight of the meal.
Appetizers- We had the "Bread and Butter" the bread was delicious. It came with radishes and carrots, they were cold and barely cooked.
Burrata- the size of a golf ball, barely enough for 2 bites.
Dinner- we ordered a bunch of things to share.
Pizza- slightly warm and tasteless
Brussel Sprout side- cold, charred on the outside still raw on the inside
Bloody Mary onion rings- cold, taste was ok. Bit cold onion rings are gross
Pasta special- 3 cheese tortellini with truffle Alfredo sauce- ICE COLD, and not a trace of truffle anywhere.
The manager did have them remake the pasta and Brussel sprouts- pasta came back hot, still no sign of any truffle, and Brussels sprouts were just ok.
She did send out some complimentary cheesecake pops, those were good.
We ordered the "Poles and Holes" for dessert. I still don't know why we even thought dessert would be any better. This was supposed to be donuts and churros with a salted caramel sauce. After about 20 minutes we received a bowl of fried Dough and chocolate sauce. We alerted the waiter thinking this was someone else dessert to which he replied "oh we ran out of churros, they didn't tell me" it was 7:30pm, ran out? And where are the donuts? Because all we had was a bowl of tasteless fried dough pieces.... the manager did remove them from the bill, but the entire experience was a total bust, and not cheap. Also was kinda embarrassed taking a client there since I had suggested it.....
The Fried Chicken sandwich has the best flavor anywhere!
It was a most delicious brunch starting with the Bloody Mary. The roasted oysters, bacon clothesline and pizza were a culinary delight. I look forward to my next visit.
The food was very mediocre - not correct temperature, not spiced/seasoned correctly, etc - and the waiter implied we were being unreasonable when I raised these concerns. Price tag way too high for this quality of food. Not worth going to. There is so much better in New York city
The service was rushed ..half full cocktail was cleared off table while still eating dinner .. except for the Tuna Crudo appetizer, the food lacked interest and bold flavor, and the entree portions were appetizer-sized..
Food was ok. Spent $150 on 2 burgers and a few beers.
Not worth it. Won't go back.
Great Sunday Brunch. Bloody Mary’s were delicious and bacon clothesline was amazing! Service was great!
DELIICIOUS food and great portions. The parsnip fries are delightful
Together for a girl’s night
I would have given this restaurant a 5 star except that it is exceptionally noisy. Not a place to have a dinner--rather a very nice watering hole.
Food was great! Bill affordable. Just wish we weren’t seated right next to another table when the place wasn’t very busy. Overall very pleased.
Didn't like my entre and left most of it untouched . It happens , and normally I would give the place a pass . My problem came when an overly aggressive female millenial came over and persisted in demanding that I articulate why I didnt care for my food . She offered to take it off the check , which I declined , and told her to please just leave me alone ! Her response was "Its my job ", and ; no matter how many times I demanded she just go away , she pressed on demanding answers from me !! Seriously !?!?!?!?!?
4th time there but I need to use Fifty characters.
VERY noisy. Normal conversation impossible. When we did not immediately order but asked for "a few more minutes" the waiter disappeared for ten minutes and had to be summoned even then. Pork chop tough. Excellent unusual cocktails. Odd menu item "parsnip fries" - we expected parsnip "French" fries and instead got a small mug of tiny crispy strips ... not sure the exact price but definitely way too much for an unsatisfactory menu item. To nice lamb chops and good roast potatoes. Creme brulee - top not crispy, custard OK. Overall the pricey menu was disappointing and the atmosphere didm't make up for it.
The service was impeccable. The food was phenomenal. The ambiance was incredible. Everything was amazing. Would definitely visit again and recommend to anyone!
Perfect place for brunch. Food was fun, great for sharing. Bloody Mary was perfect and the single best bite of food was the pickle in the Bloody Mary.
First time there for brunch. Very comfortable/casual...awesome smoke aroma coming from the kitchen. Try the bacon!
Enjoyed the meal.
We were a group of five for brunch and service was impeccable. Attentive check in on water refill, friendly explanation of menu items, and saint like patience to our group’s indecisiveness. The decor and ambience of place was cute hipster with many rustic, barn like motifs and cute cuckoo clocks - and spacious seating. Food was as expected of any David Burke restaurant, playful and rich items like the clothesline bacon and luxurious burrata with prosciutto. Strangely none of us got a wood burning pizza but the complimentary bread was toasty and delightful. Pork chop was a bit underwhelming compared to app but hash was flavorful; friend’s cavatelli and chicken/waffle were great with a nice spicy kick. Overall, the brunch prix fixe is a superb deal - app and main/pizza and beverage - but left us way too stuffed for dessert. Definitely a neighborhood gem feeling as never felt rushed and looking forward to a repeat visit!
Great food! Great service! Overall great experience.
Went here for V day. Hostess told us to hang out at the bar even though tables were open and we were right on time for our reservation. Hostess seated us about 5 mins later, then forgot the name on the reservation and had to come back. Waiters rushed us through ordering. Waiters then served my entree but they had taken my fork. Took about 5 mins to get anyones attention to get a fork. Took about 20mins after our entrees came to get dessert. Everything was ordered up front--prix fixed. Overall poor service, food was good not great, but way over priced.
We went for Valentines Day dinner (non-pre fix) for my taste all of the tables for 2 are way to close to each other the ambiance is nice casual & warm and welcoming. I don’t know if the restaurant was short staffed or if they normally operate with a bare bones crew but 3 servers for a restaurant is not sufficient. the GM/Host had to take our dessert orders and he bused our table before our check was brought to us The food tasted great everything we had was great the presentation was playful and full of whimsy like you would expect from David Burke the menu isn’t large and the desserts aren’t made in house the red velvet ice cream sandwich are brought in from Melt which is a little disappointing
The food was not good or impressive.
We had the oysters special-odd and over bbqd.
For the mains: the gnocchi- terrible and inedible. It was hard and no flavor. My husband left 3/4 of the plate uneaten. The server just removed the plate and wasn’t concerned that it was not eaten. The truffle pizza was not truffle at all. The dough was good otherwise.
Will never come back or recommend this place.
It was really great, the food is great and the experience is unique. The interior is amazing and the customer service is exceptional. Only weakness is they automatically put parmesan cheese on the pizzas, despite the fact that they do not mention that on the menu. This was disappointing and it tasted really bad.
Had no expectations. Great service. Flavors spot on. Very nice meal.
Try the roasted spinach and mushrooms
Very strong Smokey smell.
The food was absolutely gorgeous. There were not that many people there so we had the place to ourselves which was wonderful. Definitely will go back.
Excellent food, service weak for the price
