Woodhouse Kitchen + Bar
Service was very slow. There was a lot of confusion among the staff. We were there for brunch. Food good, but not sure we will be back due to slow service.
Went for Sunday brunch as was given gift card for my birthday. We were 3rd to be seated, yet still took 30 minutes or more to get our food. I ordered a cappuccino, was brought a vanilla latte and waitress acknowledged I had ordered cappuccino but did I want vanilla latte instead? She then told me they were out of “packets” to make the cappuccino. I would’ve thought they’d have a coffee machine. I had steak and eggs, husband had breakfast wrap. My steak was actually decent, but the potatoes were clearly from the night before, stale, and with no fluffy inside. Husband’s breakfast sandwich would’ve been good if it weren’t for the grease seeping through the wrap. I also ordered the limitless mimosas for over $15, which would’ve been a good deal had I been able to drink more than 1 glass due to the taste seeming off, with not enough juice. We were there more than 90 minutes, with most of this being waiting for one thing or another. Our server was nice, I think there were issues in the kitchen preventing her to serve us sooner. We spent over $50 and to be honest, the limited menu, only OK food. Inadequate service, makes me not want to go back.
We met my parents for dinner and it was fabulous, as usual. It is more expensive than other restaurants, but you can tell the quality of the food is so much higher. Highly recommended!
This is one of the best restaurants in the area. The food is top notch, the service is impeccable, and wine list will not disappoint. I highly recommend this place. They even have live music on Fridays...
Smaller menu then the first time, but amazing food choices. The plates were very well thought out and the flavors were unbelievable.
The food, service, drinks, and apps were all absolutely amazing. The house manager checked in at our table and brought us some complimentary Prosecco for our anniversary. Our waitress was gracious, courteous, friendly and very knowledgeable about the food, prep and compliments. 5 stars well earned, if you are a foodie and have not experienced them yet please do so! Wonderful dining experience
Loved this farm-to-table restaurant in Mason. I had the pulled pork sliders which were very good, but the mac n cheese was fantastic. My date had the fried chicken with green beans and both were amazing. Good wine selection too. We will be back!
I have loved this restaurant and have been there several times. I felt that the menu on my most recent visit was much more limited than I remembered. I was surprised that the dinner menu at such a nice restaurant featured burgers and sandwiches and only a few other entrees - none of which were very good choices for calorie conscious customers. The food was delicious and presentation superb - just too limited to satisfy the needs of some people.
This is a wonderful brunch location. The service was unbelievably fast and as always the food delicious. We have been going here since opening and it consistently improves. LOVE the lemon Ricotta pancakes and bacon! Will be back!
Would absolutely recommend this restaurant to anyone!! Beautiful atmosphere... Unbelievable food... Great service!! Best brisket burger and Mac n cheese we have ever had!!
Our server was helpful and informative. The food was yummy. Staff stopped by often to check on us. We drove 35 minutes from southeast side of town and it was worth it.
Best wagyu burger I've had in my entire life. Would go back and again and again!
Love the space , but the food is sub par and does not taste good at all , will not go back for brunch 🥴really want this place to do well but they really need a better food .
Food was good, service has been poor both times we have dined.
We had a Groupon, but had been there before. The menu changes frequently and they use local ingredients. This does make it a little pricier, but worth it.
This is a hidden gem. Tucked away on the road to the Beach Waterpark. Beautiful decor, rustic, romantic, leather and wood. Excellent cocktail menu, craft beers and wine. The meat and cheese was so good- fresh, variety, good flavors. Hard to find other places! The bread was well worth the $4! Not just your average rolls or bread like from chain restaurant, fresh baked, crusty but soft inside. There's a Russian/ Turkish feel to menu but food is more gourmet than ethnic. Flat bread was super crispy and flavorful. Wait staff was pleasant and so attentive!
So I do agree this place needs more curb appeal. Go spend $200 at Lowes and make this place look like it is open for business.
With that said, the inside decor is nice. A combination of wood left over from its predecessor combined with very pretty tile. Music was not live on the night we went but was good in the background. You can actually have a conversation with your date. I saw another review about the stickiness of the table and I think it is just the coating on them that makes it feel tat way.
Service was excellent. From start to finish. I like the water carafes at the table. Manager checked on us midway through the entree but he was not intrusive.
The food. The menu is not very large but has a nice selection of choices. The restaurant fits into the upscale casual market segment so entrees are $20-$30. With that said, the portions are very large. My pork dish was two portions easily and my fiancee's bass was at least 8 oz.. Both tasted great. I loved the curry aioli on my fingerling potatoes and she loved a crispy version of broccoli I (which she normally hates). We had the ricotta appetizer...meh. Try something else.
Good hand-crafted cocktails. We chose wine by the glass, which were primarily $9-11. Generous pours in cool glasses.
We used Group On coupon, but we will be back without it. Forget Claddaugh, this is the independent restaurant in Mason you need to support.
Last thoughts. Woodhouse is a farm to table restaurant and everything is sourced locally, like within 15 miles. Live music on the weekend.
AND they have an awesome brunch on Sunday. Checkout both their dinner menu (which changes often with specialties) and brunch menu on their website.
We thought the Woodhouse was a very nice restaurant, our waitress was pleasant and friendly. The food was delicious but there was no choice of what came with the order. I would have preferred a baked potato with my steak and my wife would have preferred other than the cous cous that came with her order. Quite expenses for what we got.
Our experience was good overall. I only have 2 comments that impacted our visit. The first is that wen we drove up to the building it looked abandoned. The landscaping needed a lot of attention. The grass was overgrown and the mulched beds looked as though they had not been attended to for a long time.
CURB APPEAL was missing. Some flowers, clean appearance would be more welcoming. The second item was the table. We were greeted and seated promptly and the host was very friendly. The issue was that the table in the booth that we ere seated in was sticky. Something that I would relate to a fast food joint. Not a good start.
However the server (Dakota) was great, the food met our expectations. I had the Brick Chicken and my wife had the Burger. Portions were just right, the server was attentive, but not intrusive. The dessert and coffee finished off the meal.
All-in-all I would recommend the food. A little attention to detail on the appearance and first impressions go a long way to getting repeat customers.
We decided on a late dinner at Woodhouse and maybe should have waited until the area wasn't so busy. Apparently, the tennis tournament wiped them out, many dishes weren't available and we were told that the manager was cooking?! It didn't look busy inside the restaurant but we waited a long time for our food. Not what we expected at 9 pm.
Loved the decor, and ambiance. The night we went they had Live music with seating available both close to and far from entertainment, which accommodates desired noise level. Food was very good. Charcuterie + Cheeses included delicious assortment enjoyed over cocktails. Speaking of cocktails, “The Woodhouse” was wonderful! We had scallops and octopus entrees and thoroughly enjoyed both. The server was scarce and appeared absent minded, although the table next to us had a different server and seemed to have no issues. The manager saved the occasion after checking on us and bringing requested items. If we had a better server, it would have been awesome.
We had a ribeye and a scallop dish. Both were excellent! Waitstaff was appropriately attentive.
Pulling into the parking lot, we almost left based on the surroundings. Then walking up to the restaurant, we almost left because the landscaping was horrid. Grass was well past needing cut, weeds over grown, outside was just not maintained or impressive. We were very concerned with spending $28+ on a meal when the outside looked as awful as it did. We had bought a Groupon so we went in anyways. The inside was gorgeous! Very uniquely done. The food was outstanding and so was the service. Glad we went in. But the outside needs some serious attention. Not to mention the 15+ semi beds sitting in the parking lot facing the restaurant.
First time there. We just moved to ohio in May and are trying to try the local restaurants. We got a coupon for buy one, get one half off and likef what ee saw in the reviews. We were not disappointed. The food was excellent and the choices were a different from the norm. Would highly recommend this restaurant. Also our server eas knowledgeable and fun
The website is an exaggeration of the menu and experience. Our dinners ranged from hit to complete miss. House made bread and butter was good but nothing special. Since there’s a charge for bread, expectations go up. The beet salad and octopus were very good. Ribs were good with a unique seasoning. Pork schnitzel was average. And the pizza was inedible with an underdone, strangely flavored crust. Wanted to try a new place but wouldn’t recommend or repeat.
Great food, the pork schnitzel is very good, they also have wonderful salads!
Our first time here and can't wait to return. The atmosphere was excellent and the live band was a great added touch. Per the suggestion of our waiter I went with steak and was not disappointed at all. Rick was extremely attentive without being intrusive. Overall the service was outstanding and looking forward to try a new entree next time.
I like to support local restaurants, and I've eaten at Woodhouse Kitchen before. It was delicious. However, they've changed the menu and the price points have really increased. While my scallops were good and presented beautifully. I don't think they were worth the cost of $30 for the meal. I also don't like to pay for bread. On a positive note, the wine list is good and priced very well.
1st visit - nice ambiance. Server very friendly but could have known menu just a little better. Bartender made an AWESOME cosmo. Will definitely be back for that. My asparagus salad was great. Had to sit away from the fantastic music (had a child with us). Will be back!
The brunch was amazing
If you haven’t tried it you should !! Does not feel like your sitting in Mason , great farm to table Choices fit for foodies who are tired red of chains and boring food !!
The front door entrance was filthy-not clean (windows). The wait for dinner was over an hour when there was very few people in the restaurant at 6:30. I ordered the fish for $30 and the fish would fit on half a bun ( if it had been on a bun). Very disappointed.
We had a blast. The restaurant had a great ambience (business casual), and the staff made our evening great! After dinner we stayed a bit longer and enjoyed another wonderful whisky for my husband.
Don’t let the touristy vibe of the area dissuade you. This place is beautiful - a combo of rustic, cozy and modern. The staff was very accommodating to dietary restrictions and made quite a few modifications to dishes to meet food sensitivities. Server Ben was terrific and the food was delicious.
Phenomenal experience! Heard from two different people that we just HAD to try out Woodhouse and man, were they right! The food tasted fresh and the ingredients were intriguing but melded so well together - a flavor explosion in my mouth! This is the first restaurant in many years that I literally wanted to order every dish on their menu. We are definitely new regulars - can't wait to go back!
Chef does an amazing job of building levels of subtle flavors in every dish. Service is excellent but not at all formal. Best wine selection in the city when it comes to best value per bottle. Rick has an encyclopedic knowledge of his cellar and beyond. I always want to try another menu selection but always wind up getting the octopus. Try it, you will not regret the choice.
We have been meaning to visit Woodhouse since it first opened but never had a chance until now. The food was absolutely amazing, the depth of flavors and complexities in each bite was hypnotic. When people come to town we now have a new recommendation in Mason, Ohio. Brunch is worth every penny!
Great Jazz brunch with an inventive menu and awesome wine list. Can’t wait to try dinner!
Make a reservation for the best experience.
The brunch was fabulous. We had the best crepes and pancakes ever. As a bonus, they had live music to make the experience even better. What a nice surprise. We can’t wait to go back and try other dishes.
Made reservations on opentable, was a surprise for my husband for an early Fathers day, kids arrived early and let Host know that it was a surprise and when me and my husband arrived the Host almost gave the surprise away, kids had just told Host 5 mins before that it was a surprise.. took 6mins for anyone to come get drink order, another 10 mins for meal order. Brunch took over 45 mins to get to table so they offered biscuits and scones to keep us content.. food tasted good but overall service and length of waiting was unacceptable... husband and I were in the evening before Mother’s Day and service was about the same, will not be going back
