About
Just because you are in New Jersey, doesn't mean you cant find great Southern cuisine or even some good ole Southern hospitality. We offer a full southern experience, touching on as much of the South as possible, from Virginia to South Carolina, into New Orleans and Texas.
Come and enjoy our from-scratch kitchen, that prides itself on locally-sourced produce and creative cuisine that sticks to Southern basics. We smoke all of our meats on-site including brisket, pulled pork, St. Louis style ribs and chickens, using White Oak wood. Our three house sauces Buffalo, BBQ, and Wooden Spoon Hot are all made from scratch and pull inspiration from all over the southern US.
Great restaurant and would def go back! Fried pickles and chicken and waffles were both awesome. Waitress was super friendly and made great recommendations.
Everyone in our party loved the food selection and the team at Wooden Spoon was very friendly. It's a great place to go and share some appetizers and comfort food.
Particularly friendly wait staff. Good food. Absolutely horrible entrance to their parking lot!
Good BBQ (I had the Texas Hot Link and Smoked Brisket). I also had the bourbon sampler. Nice to compare three brands side-by-side.
Some of the food was spot on and some wasn’t the beef brisket was very dry. The ribs were great and the appetizers were very good.
I have now been here twice and both times were excellent. Food is very good -- everything has a little kick. Great atmosphere, staff .... I will be back
Love this neighborhood gem! The comfort food is amazing and the service, always exceptional. It was a great choice for a late lunch with a friend.
This sign greets you at the door and is a pretty good indicator that you're in for an experience. The food is amazing, service efficient, and atmosphere inviting. I'll come again when I'm in the area.
Went out for father in law’s birthday. Food was great and flavorful. Staff was attentive and friendly. Took awhile to get our food but as they advertise ‘slow and low’ good bbq and comfort food takes time. This place is worth the wait.
The ribs were very much over done. Probably cooked early and then reheated. My brisket sandwich was very fatty. The roll was burnt The coke slaw was served warm. Didn’t taste right
I came to the Wooden Spoon because of other good reviews that I had read. Prior to going I checked out their menu on their website also. I am a vegetarian and I wanted to make sure I had some choices. Happy to say I was quite pleased! I had their Buffalo Cauliflower with a side of Mac N Cheese. My friend had their Roasted Vegetable Sandwich. The food was delicious & prices were very reasonable. Oh yeah - I also enjoyed a beer from their extensive beer selections. Service was excellent . I look forward to coming back. Thank you !
Loved it all! Drinks named "Rhinestone Cowboy" and "Take it Easy" and the best mac 'n cheese Ever! And who can resist a Saloon in downtown Bloomfield? They even had onsite parking. We all agreed that we will definitely be returning!
Our service was wonderful and overall it was a good experience
First visit to the Wooden Spoon and will not be my last. I had the Brown Sugar Rubbed Salmon, a side of Mac & Cheese and a side of the Jalapeno Cornbread. My meal was hot, seasoned well, and well proportioned. The wait was never too long for anything. The staff was quite accommodating and the ambiance was welcoming.
Been here 3 times now and the food and drinks are worth coming back for. The menu has changed in the month that we started to go there. There is live entertainment on the weekend, music is not overly loud that you can still talk among table. Looking forward to our next dinner there.
Wonderful food. It is in a nice area. My friend liked it.
I think they’re just starting out. This place has potential and we’ll try again. Amazing waffles and the hubby loves his salmon. The rest of the food was bland. Our drinks took forever to come. Live music was nice but very loud.
Was very disappointed with The Wooden Spoon. Went for the "award winning" burnt ends and the Fried Taylor Ham Sticks, both were taken off the menu when we went this past Sunday. How do you not have probably the two most popular items and the one is "award winning. We got the fried pickles-yuck, pretzel-good, bbq wings-average, nachos-not good-hardly any cheese, and deviled eggs-very good to start. A few of us got the Sampler, pulled pork was dry, brisket was very good, Ribs were dried out and also different from the half rack my son ordered-his were pretty good. The Fried Chicken was not good at all-how is Fried Chicken Soggy? The Shrimp Po-Boy was alright, the bread was stale but the shrimp were good. The Mac-n-Cheese was very good, cornbread was average, biscuit was average, onion rings were not good. Service was nothing special, there really wasn't anybody there and with a table of ten, I thought we would get more and better attention. Sorry to say I wouldn't go back.
Good food and service! We will be back (with friends)!
Great place for a relaxed family meal with great drinks
Our experience started on wrong footing and may have impacted the overall experience. We (party of 4) went to wooden spoon saloon on a weekday after making reservation. Place was pretty much empty when we checked in. Hostess took us to our table which was those high tables with bar stools. We saw a normal height table but it was for 6 people empty and requested our hostess if we could sit there. Her comment was odd when she said, we don’t give this table to parties less than 6. Considered there was another table for 4 but was occupied by just 2 people and it was a slow night for them, found it weird . It put off our mood.
Very nice and new restaurant. Thought our meals, jambalaya and fried chicken were a bit under spiced.
Great BBQ and live band on Friday night!
The waitress was very nice but the food was pretty awful. Wayyyyyyyyyyy too salty, to the point of inedible and the biscuits and sausage gravy well, no sausage... at all. Overall, nice people, awful food.
On a Tuesday night.. out of brisket? Out of ribs?? 7:45 and the restaurant was nearly empty...big disappointment on every level except service.
Food was awesome. My niece enjoyed her craft beer very much. Highly recommend this joint. I can’t believe I’ve been in Bloomfield for 6 years and never been here. Looking forward to going back.
staff was wonderful, so was the food. great live music, too!
Super delicious food and great service. Will be going again soon!
The ambiance was good, and the food was amazing especially the ribs and mac
Good service, I am allergic to eggs, server at the bar was very helpful in determining items that would be a problem.
Good eats and service at a decent price; will return.
The menu is stellar with large portions. Mac n Cheese is da bomb! Every order is made separately so each bite gets the crumbs atop!!
Service was terrible. We sat down for five minutes before a waiter came over and wanted our entire order. We didn't even get a drink yet. After that first visit, the next one was from the manager because he saw us looking all over for service to get a second drink. Service was bad, hands down. If you want good service and talk, sit at the bar for sure!
We (boyfriend and I) came close to the kitchen closing time but we were still able to order everything we wanted. The bartender/waiter was awesome Pete I believe. The food was deliecious! Only a handful of people there when we were and we got to laugh with everyone. Was a great time. Food was great. Drinks were on point. Definitely coming back.
Food was excellent. The music was great, and the service was very attentive. This is becoming one of our go to spots in the neighborhood.
This was a real disappointment. The menu sounded very interesting. Started with Nachos, usually at least good at any restaurant. I don't think the cheese was cheese...cheese wiz? Anyway, taste was just awful. Our entrees were not great. My wife has the Chicken Fried Steak. The portion was large, but she said the steak was very tough and didn't have great taste. She asked to substitute mashed potatoes for the grits. Waitress said there might be an upcharge, but was sure. I had the South Jersey Cheese Steak. Didn't see any cheese, but that may have been a good thing. The meat in the sandwich itself was quite good and extremely hot, but no onions or peppers either. Service was OK. The waitress was very friendly and was trying to keep everyone happy, I suspect she my have been new and she seemed king of flustered.
Such a hidden gem. Delicious comfort food with amazing cocktails.
We were looking for s new place and found Wooden Spoon can’t wait to go back.
We went to the Wooden Spoon Saloon for dinner with a group of 7. The restaurant was terrific! Upbeat ambiance, great service and there was a blues band playing, which we all enjoyed and was not too loud so we could hear each other. I had the Nashville hot chicken, which was delicious. 3 people in my group ordered the chicken and waffles (minus the braised cabbage) and they loved it. We had 1 jambalaya and a wings and we all enjoyed the food. If you are a vegan, they did have a black bean burger on the menu- and they let you substitute a garden salad if you want to forego the fries. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. It was a fun night out!
My son and future daughter in law took us there and it was great the food, service, the place is so welcoming. The grits with cheese and pull pork and corn bread was delicious. Am will be going back
Love the menu. Our server was wonderful but she was definitely overworked. They needed more help Saturday night.
