Wm Farmer is the best. Creative offerings, a dedicated staff, and very comfortable atmosphere. Dining in the Merchant house is special....quiet and classy. Ask for a table in that dining room.
Delicious food, beautiful setting. We had the duck confit and mushroom voulevant. Both were outstanding.
We loved our 1st dinner at Wm . Farmer and Sons! drinks and food were excellent; plating was beautiful. Service was outstanding; like a well oiled machine. During the pandemic we have chosen to eat outside; however we chose to eat indoors here and felt safe.
We will certainly spread the word about this wonderful, creative restaurant and look forward to returning with friends!!
Everything is delicious!
This will be a regular stop whenever I am in Hudson! Fabulous dessert, great ambiance, great service, excellent ice cubes!! Food was top notch!
This was an absolute treat from start to finish! We were celebrating an anniversary and they brought out two flutes of champagne for a toast. We got some oysters and the chicken livers to start - delicious, and a huge portion, almost too much for two people. I had the lamb, which was perfectly cooked and again a bigger dish than I expected. My husband had the duck confit and scraped his plate clean. We got a date cake for dessert, and it came out warm and a little sticky from the sauce. Cannot wait to go back!
Hostess was not very accommodating
We finally found a spot we can call our go-to in the area, even though it's 30 min drive away from our Windham house. It's worth every mile and every penny! A well-executed beverage and culinary experience that can put so many even in NYC to shame.
Very nice ambiance. The service was great and the dishes were good. A little on the pricier side but overall worth it.
Exceptional. Wonderful combination of unusual flavors. Service is friendly and efficient.
Our experience at Wm. Farmer was outstanding across the board.
Due to a schedule change we showed up more than an hour before our reservations time hoping to be seated. The host and manager were able to provide a space at the bar (always our preference) almost immediately.
The cocktails were terrific. The bartender answered our questions with great descriptions and provided recommendations for both cocktails and wine. The ingredients and mixing were excellent.
Our meals were amazing. The ingredients and preparation shined. We both agreed that it was one of the best meals we had had.
And still, what was probably most notable about the evening was the level of relaxed and attentive service we received. Everyone, the host, the manager, our bartender/server went above and beyond to make it a perfect evening.
Can't wait to return.!
Professionally made drinks made by bartenders with a retro look.
Nice ambiance with bar seats and tables full but not crowded.
Great to see the faces of staff again.
My husband and I ventured to Hudson for a little day trip. We we able to get a 5pm reservation same day. Wasn’t too busy at that time and the tables were spaced a comfortable distance. Our server was very good and very knowledgeable about the wines. We had oysters which were delicious and the romaine salad which was also nice. For our mains my husband had the lamb and I had the steak both were incredible. Cooked to perfection. We will be coming back!!
Talk about high end dining. 6 entrees available from mushroom puff pastry to octopus. The specials ran from %40 to $85. Drinks were $15 each. I guess I'm not used to it but this was not my kind of place. You wouldn't want to bring children here for these foods and prices. No parking except on the street. The service was stellar and the the place is very attractive.
Fabulous service. Delicious cocktails. Wonderful food. Great ambiance!
My wife and I both had the steak which is aged on site. By far the best steaks
we have had. The service, drinks, dinner and dessert were all perfect.
Can’t wait to go back.
Best place in the Hudson Valley!!!
Our favorite place to dine!
Every aspect of our evening was top notch. Quiet surroundings, attentive but not intrusive service, and excellent food beautifully presented.
With its rustic chic ambience, this was one of our best restaurant experiences during a three week holiday. Fantastically trained staff make you feel very welcome. We shared three dishes and each had something noteworthy about it. Great bartenders as well. Highly recommend.
Food was great and service was excellent.
Everything was great about it. Steak tartare was the best I ever had. Duck confit and lamb chops were to die for. Cocktails were fun, tasty and creative.
Special place in Hudson NY a cool experience from the specialty cocktail on tap to delicious starters and entrees. I’d rate this best food in Hudson Proper.
Wonderful meal with great service and exceptional cocktail menu. Comfortable and elegant. Highly recommend.
Wow, the oysters were fresh; the fluke crudo was beautiful and delicious (black sesame seeds made it); entrees were spectacular with shout outs for the trout and duck confit! Desserts could use some focus. Our server was a joy and the team could not have been more professional. If you are in Hudson, this should be your go to for a fabulous meal.
Aside from the steak (London broil), it was a nice experience. Great ambiance and service.
Beautiful restaurant, lighting, music, noise level, and space between tables. Very sharp service. Two of our dishes, crudo of fluke and Tivoli mushroom pastry were A++. Beef tartare very good but Huge portion for appetizer-much more than I wanted to eat. Ended up leaving half only because of size, which was distressing since was expensive app. Steak also very good, and exceptional combined with mushroom dish.
Would gladly return
My husband and I had an outstanding dinner at Wm. Farmer & Sons. The food was high quality and delicious. We shared a salad to start then I had the amazing trout, and he had the octopus and grits. The drinks were top notch and the raspberry cobbler with ice cream may have been the best cobbler I've ever tasted. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
We love Wm Farmer and sons. We were super excited to go last night. The menu is ever changing, it’s a fun mood and the staff is always pleasant. I had forgotten about the automatic 20% gratuity. And I have never been a less than 20 % tip leaver - but for a party of two it seems a little presumptuous. Regardless- our meal was outstanding. Drinks were perfection.
This place is something very special. The Hudson Valley is lucky to have it.
The burrata, lamb and octopus were all incredible, and the service was the best I’ve had in years. Thank you for a great dining experience!
First time at Farmer and Son & our dinner was fantastic! We had the Vichyssoise, Burrata, Wood-grilled Carrots, Duck Confit, Appalachian Trout, and the Tavern Steak. Everything was delicious & the service well timed.
A special thank to the wait staff, especially Lucy.
Such a beautiful experience! Will definitely be back!
Very disappointing in just so many ways. Service faux pas, mediocre food, poor menu selection, shaky neighborhood.
They started off of the wrong foot when we wanted to order an appetizer while we decided on our entrée. Perhaps this is a "best practice", but I'm the one paying the check!
My wife's duck confit was OK, but the lentils were tasteless and overcooked to the point of resembling oatmeal.
My Reginetti (pasta w. pork ragu) was OK, but nothing special --- and the pasta was overcooked --- and this is not one of those nuts who insist on uncooked pasta.
Even the dessert was underwhelming. The pot du crème, was way too heavy, sweet and dense. I'd mention the insanely small portion as well, but this was a blessing.
My biggest issue was the highly limited menu. I appreciate the farm-to-table concept, but we really struggled to find something to order and in fact 'settled' on the 2 entres..
On the positive side: The pepper jelly w the just-OK Country Ham appi was very good, but the ham cut too thick and biscuits seemed to be left over from yesterday, the ambiance and décor quite nice and the place was alive but pretty quiet. The entre portions were quite good. They were also cool w. moving my reservation from 5:15 to 6:00.
Overall, the experience was a big negative with very little positive to say.
The Merchant House setting was a lovely surprise. The management was most accommodating when we needed to tweak our reservation. The wait staff was always gracious. The food and drinks were prepared perfectly. The only negative is the prices were a bit high.
Excellent food and service,, looking forward to visit the restaurant again, Edward Kraven
Great food but was given the bums rush. First the good parts. The ham platter app was outstanding. My wife and I both had the tavern steak and they were cooked perfectly. The grilled lettuce was delicious and the dressing superb.
Now the service. The hostess showed us the exit as she seated us to speed our way out. Appetizers arrived before cocktails and our dinners appeared as the busboy cleared the appetizers. A server tried to clear our diner plates while we were eating. All in all they tried to get us out of the place in under an hour. We were so rushed we did not bother with dessert. Loved the food. Would never go back.
Enjoyed the oysters, crudo, “mushroom pie,” and prawns. Drinks, service, and food was exceptional. Chill vibe in the small outdoor area.
Thank you for an incredible evening! The service, the food, the beverages, it was perfect.
Great time, good food and ambience.
