The Wine Cellar is best defined "cozy and elite". It's charming and sophisticated, with a nice wine selection, excellent food and atmosphere, and great service. It seemed little-known, which is sad because the food was quite good. The fish that my friend and I had was easily the best we'd had in the city - moist, flavorful, rich and worth the price. I would highly recommend for a classy, selective couple or family for special occasions.
Felt rushed by waiter named Bob. Food was very good, nice place
Great Birthday celebration.
Reasonably priced yet amazingly exquisite food. All 3 Filet Mignons were cooked exactly as requested, deliciously marinated, and sides were generous & perfectly complimented the meal. Decadent desserts & great service.
The Wine Cellar never fails to please ... great menu ... dependable regular istings and interesting specials ... attentive service ...
For a restaurant that's called the wine cellar the waiter Gary was not very well versed on the wines on the menu..Then when we asked to taste a wine, the first time he let us but we were waivering between 2 different wines, instead of letting us try the 2nd one, he said that he couldn't do that so basically he forced the 1st wine choice on us..So that kinda set the stage for a not so great service experience from the get go..Then the escargot we order did not have any taste to it..Thirdly, we were on a romantic date night and they sat us next to a loud group of 6 people. The kicker though is that they add 18% tip to every check so regardless of the service provided, the waiter gets a guaranteed 18% tip which explains why Gary did not provide the service that we expected out of a place like that..The only thing that we liked was the ambience and under better conditions and service, it would have been a great experience.
The food was cooked to perfection; our server was knowledgeable, personable and recommendations were spot on.
One of my favorite restaurants -- quiet, elegant, delicious food, & excellent service.
The food was incredible and Wayne's service and expertise were wonderful. Definitely added to my must visit more often list
Stood at the front of the restaurant for approximately five minutes waiting for someone to show up and seat us. The front was unattended this whole time. Finally seated and our waiter comes over and asks if we are ready to order. No welcome or introduction, no suggestions to the menu, just asks if we are ready to order. We said we need a few minutes and he disappears and while we are still looking at the menu he shows back up and tries to take our order again. We again ask for more time. We are ready to order and sit several minutes with our menus close and the waiter finally returns. He takes our order but offers no suggestions or asks if we have any questions. Food came out quickly (it should because there was only three seated tables on a Friday night). Food was delicious. We finished our meals and then waited for about 10 minutes with no sign of our waiter. At this point there was only two tables seated in the restaurant and no waiter present. The waiter finally came back and took our plates. I had to ask for desert. It was not offered. Desert came out promptly and before we even finished our check was delivered. No offering of anything else. I look at the check and 18% gratuity was automatically added for a party of two. Never have I seen this done before for a party of two. The waiter definitely didn’t deserve this tip. Overall I was dissatisfied with the service at this restaurant.
Takes reservations. Have gone to wine cellar for years. Best service in town. Choice and Quality of food is outstanding. Wine list is extensive and varied. Call Wayne if you need something special. They make your experience to your need.
Excellent food, service was quick and wine selection was varied. Very quiet on a Monday, but would definitely come back again.
Great Food, Great Service. Old school restaurant. A little pricey for what you get, but overall good food. Seems like it's more for earlier meals as we shut down the place with an 8pm reservation. Generally, an older crowd as well.
Excellent food and service. Food is consistently good. Atmosphere creates a wonderful place to meet friends and be able to hear each other’s conversations.
This was first time at the Wine Cellar for my wife and I. The Food was amazing, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I felt a bit disappointed at the portion size at first, but it was more filling than I though it was gonna be, and left me room for desert and some coffee without putting me into a food comma. Overall I would recommend the Wine Cellar to anyone looking for something more low key and relaxing, or looking for a good date night restaurant. The location is kinda strange between a bank and a gas station, but it also makes it stand out in my opinion.
Nice old school place. Refreshing not to hit a chain. Not flashy, has personalized service.
Everything about the night was excellent. The place is a gem, good food, good service, quiet. Too bad I live 1200 miles away. When I am in the Jacksonville area again, I will definitely try to get back!
As always, the Wine Cellar represents the very best in dinning in Jacksonville.
Fabulous experience. Gary waited on us and was exceptional to pay attention to every detail. Salmon was a wonderful choice for dinner. Will go back soon.
From the moment we walked in the door, we were impressed. The restaurant is quiet, cozy, and very welcoming. The staff were amazing and the food was delicious. I cannot wait to go back and try more of their amazing wine selection.
Excellent food, service, and ambiance! Worth every penny. Thank you, Wayne, for making this night so memorable:)
The Wine Cellar continues to be wonderfully reliable as a lovely spot for a special occasion, or just a great dinner. This time we enjoyed the seasonal prix fixe menu, along with some selections from the regular list. Especially important for us, the chef is quite accommodating and my husband's fussy requests for preparing his selections were not at all an issue. This is a place where the commitment to serve and please patrons is evident throughout. The atmosphere is white cloth and quiet lighting, and there is a charming back patio area lit with fairy lights. It is lovely to look at from inside through large windows, as well as to enjoy for those who like to be outside. The dessert we shared - Roasted Banana Pudding - was a memorable riff on the Southern classic. It was from the prix fixe menu, but we think it deserves a permanent spot!
This was our second time visiting Wine Cellar. The food was good, atmosphere perfect for quiet dining, and service quite good. We will definitely eat there again.
The service was great. Very nice restaurant. I'm still looking for a great steak. My husbands grouper was delicious (I ate most of his). My steak was ok, but nothing to write home about. Sorry! The bread was delicious. The wine list outstanding.
I really can't figure out why more people don't go to the Wine Cellar. We have been going here for at least 25 years and are never disappointed. Prices are not outrageous. Food and service are second to none. Hardest thing is choosing what to order. I guess most people would rather go to the chain restaurants and have the same old food and atmosphere. Their loss. Thanks again Wayne.
One of my favorite restaurants for service, food, and atmosphere
This was our first visit to Wine Cellars and we will return. The service and the food was outstanding. Our waiter, Bob, was very attentive and friendly. One negative was where we were seated. We felt isolated in a small room with a few tables and would have preferred to be in the larger area, but this will not deter us from returning.
The food was great! Our table was so secluded and romantic it was perfect! The wine was amazing so much selection. But it’s not cheap it’s very expensive a good place to go for a date or special occasion!
One of the best meals we had while we were in Flordia. If you love wine this is the place to come to.
As usual the food was very good and well prepared. Service was very good but you get the feeling that they are anxious to turn over the table . Had to remind the waiter that we wanted more time just to relax and talk a bit before we ordered.
Great restaurant. Fabulous and attentive waiter. Food was outstanding!
Our family enjoyed a wonderful meal in a pleasant environment. The service was excellent, there is ample parking and we were not hurried through our meal. We definitely return and I am pleased to recommend the Wine Cellar.
First time we had been here. It was very nice and wonderful for a special occasion.
The overall experience was good. The food (and drinks) are pricey and the portions small, but the quality of the food is excellent!
Overall fantastic. Super fresh ingredients and prepared to perfection.
The Wine Cellar is one of our favorite restaurants in Jacksonville. We live in St. Johns County and don't mind the drive for a great meal and excellent service. The staff is very accommodating and attentive to us.
The Wine Cellar never disappoints. Good cooking, comfortable seating, quiet surroundings and attentive service. A much too often forgotten gem.
The food is very good however our waiter started out good and then several other couples were seated in his area and then the service turned from good to bad. Couldn't get his attention and it took a while to have our dinner plates cleared. Not what you would expect for this level restaurant.
Our first time dining at this establishment was an awesome experience. The server was well versed and extremely knowledgeable regarding the food and pleasant when making adjustments to an entree. He was pleasant and friendly. The food was excellent and memorable. I can still recall the flavors and warmth of each bite! The tables are a bit close together thwarting private conversations. Great choice! Will return!
Atmosphere was very conducive for great conversation. Server was friendly and helpful. Everyone enjoyed their selection especially the fried asparagus and crab, and quiche. The only issue was that the crab and lobster bisque soup could have been warmer. All-in-all, we’ll be back.
