The Winding Stair Bookshop & Café became a famous Dublin landmark in the 1970s and 1980s. Named after the Yeats poem and in honour of its winding staircase, it is overlooking the river Liffey, with an iconic view of the Ha'penny bridge. As a popular meeting place for writers, musicians and artists, it was a well known hub for debate and creativity with many poems written, novels penned and movies shot within its walls. In 2006, Elaine Murphy brought this much-loved spot back to life as a restaurant, championing seasonal, Irish produce. The bookshop, located on the ground floor, was retained, as were many of the old bookshelves, photos and memories. The room retains its timeless charm with stripped wood tables and floors, and Bentwood café chairs. The view remains as quintessentially Dublin as ever.
The food is good, old-fashioned home cooking, with produce sourced from artisans within the island. Drink sare local and international craft beers & wines from stellar producers.

Having used the Winding Stair for our wedding dinner last year, we returned again on our first wedding anniversary. Nothing short of exceptional. Food was incredible, service was excellent. The joy of knowing you are eating locally sourced seasonal foods is a real win . 10/10

I was meeting a friend who I hadn’t seen in over a decade & he’s a strict vegetarian & this came up as a recommendation for Vegetarian fare but alas that wasn’t the case So the food was rated 3/5 as the choice was quite limited Apart from that it was an enjoyable repast & staff were friendly & view of Liffey was sublime

What a great place! The ambience was so fun with a little upscale to it, namely their wine selection! The staff was just the right amount of attentive and scarce so that you could enjoy your dinner with your companion. The food was simply delicious. We had the halloumi and sweet potatoes as well as the pork cutlets and they were so good! The lemon tart for dessert was wonderful. We would definitely recommend this restaurant!!

Great atmosphere, great service, terrific food. The rhubarb and Chantilly cream was described by my wife as the best dessert she has ever had.

Busy buzzy restaurant. Service; friendly, professional. Plates cleaned so a very good sign of deliciousness. Only drawback the stairs, buts worth the climb. Average for six persons including service charge €53. Mains plus drink wine/ beer one dessert and two coffees.
