About Wilshire Restaurant
Designer Thomas Schoos created a warm distinctive ambiance while taking advantage of the unique spaces on the property. Each room makes an individual statement retaining the “old world” character of this historic space or capturing a more modern sensibility. The main dining room features plush leather banquettes and antique mirrors enhanced by candlelight while the indoor bar has coffered ceilings, club chairs and a softly lit amber bar. The spacious outdoor garden, bar and private terrace are surrounded by rich chocolate stucco walls accented with fireplaces and water features. The dining area seats 100 and the terrace may inspire an indulgent dessert or a fine Cognac nightcap.

I went to the Wilshire Restaurant to celebrate my birthday with friends and it was an excellent dining experience all around....food, service, ambiance! The menu selection was great and the food came out perfectly. Great attention to detail on a fronts. I will definitely go back and highly recommend this spot!
Wilshire used to be my favorite "to go" restaurant, but with the new chef and new management, everything is ruined: The food verges on being inedible. The guanciale that came with scallops was incredibly tough - probably sitting around in a hot oven for days. Service was abominable and slow as a glacier. Drinks took almost 25 minutes to arrive. Check came before desserts came. Wilshire needs to go backot its roots and reestablish itself soon or else it will be a footnite in history.
The food is amazing, and Brendan Collins is my favorite chef in LA. Unfortunately our waiter only came by once to ask for our drink order and once to drop off the check (in which he said nothing and made no eye contact). We actually had to flag down another waitress to put in our food order after 20 minutes of waiting.
I will be back because the place is amazing, but I will try to avoid that server.
We went for the Sunday roast. It consisted of four large slices of roast beef, some roast potatoes, vegetables, cauliflower in cheese sauce, and three Yorkshire puddings! With a side of jus and horseradish. All this for $27. The food was good and there was a tremendous quantity.
They also have the same with roast chicken instead of beef. A great old-fashioned Sunday dinner.
After ordering a drink I was given a wrong cocktail. Isn’t a Grey Goose on the rocks simple enough. Instead of the slice of lime needed to squeeze into the drink, I received merely a peel dropped into the liquid. Our party of four wanted to order a variety of appetizers to share, but the selection was extremely limited, and quite difficult to split. I ordered the short rib as an entree and was extremely disappointed. In fact it was one of the worst dinners ever. We will not be going back!
The food here is top class - we went for Sunday lunch and all British people should have the Wilshire on their radar. The Roast is everything we expect from home plus, plus, plus... and price-wise is a fantastic value. Sat on the patio by the fireplace - just a great setting. But this is a terrific restaurant for ALL food lovers, not just the British.
Next visit will be during the week - the dinner menu looks brilliant. The chef/owner Brendan Collins is well known in L.A. food circles and for good reason - he's inventive and passionate about his food and it shows. I highly recommend The Wilshire...
Food was quite good and patio is lovely, but service was terrible. We were there for 45 minutes without anyone coming to take our order. We had to flag someone down and talk to the manager. Even with that we had another big service problem between the main course and dessert.
Wilshire has made an excellent move in bringing on Brendan Collins to whip the kitchen into shape. The new menu is amazing and the ambience and service will make this a place you will want to come back over and over again. Highly recommend. Finally an excellent Westside restaurant for foodies.
The food was fantastic. I had curried chicken sandwich, you have to try it. I’m from England, my friend from Australia, she had fish and chips, we are picky, and can say probably best I’ve ever had since coming to LA in 1992. I’m eager to try the English Sunday Roast.
I love this place! The outdoor area in the back is charming and allows one to have a conversation where the noise level is low. It is a really pretty courtyard and completely shields any wind out on the street.
Food is fresh and very well prepared--it's a great menu.
We had a delicious and lovely dinner with friends at Wilshire. In addition to the fabulous appetizers and entrees and the warm and cozy outdoor dining ambiance, the highlight was seeing and having Chef Brendan Collins back on the west side of town. He was missed and we are thrilled he is now at Wilshire. We will be dining there frequently for his wonderful dishes!
The Wilshire is just and “ok” restaurant. It’s the type of place you would go to if it was down the steeet but not if you’d have to drive even one mile.
Starting with the positive the service was good. Our waiter was excellent and thoughtful. The hostess and a couple people who seemed like managers asked us how everything was going and when we said “ok” and “meh” even, they seemed to be satisfied with that and did not dig any deeper.
The drinks were lacking and overpriced for what they were and the food again was just ok. My husband and I got two dishes our waiter touted as phenomenal the duck and the branzino. Neither was either of those.
I have eaten here twice and have had very good meals both times. The portions are generous but not too big. I had the Tuna Poke, Hamachi Crudo and the Burrata and Figs without the meat as appetizers. Fro main courses I have had the Branzino and the Halibut. Everything was quite good. Service is good, not great, but better than many other places where you are completely forgotten. The outdoor patio is quite lovely and big enough to allow many people to dine outside.
I was very disappointed this time around. Used to be a big fan of this place. BUT, the menu has gone downhill, the lobster salad had very little lobster in it, and mostly a bunch of bleu cheese. All the good hostesses and waitresses are gone. Leaves a little to be desired for me personally. Most likely will not rush right back if at all.
The ambiance here is great. The patio is beautiful and the wait staff is very attentive. Unfortunately, they got several things wrong with my order, and while the food was good, the portions are quite small. Overall, the experience was pleasurable, with food quality being the emphasis over quantity.
I had the fish and chips which was pretty good and my friend had the omelette. I wish there were lighter lunch options. More of the dishes seemed more for dinner like the steak frites. Overall it was pretty good but not good enough to be a regular favorite.
One thing that bothered me was I was seated for a while waiting for my friend to show up. The restaurant was pretty empty for lunch and I was asked to switch to another table so a "regular" could have his usual table. Of course we said sure and the manager said we'd be comped my glass of wine. When the bill came nothing had been comped and the manager was no where to be found. Figures! Also, the "regular" was alone at a table for four, order a coffee (or tea) and left shortly after.
We eat at Wilshire on a pretty regular basis and this was the first time in our last several visits that the food didn't measure up to what I believe are the restaurant's standards. Part of the reason may have been a large party on the lower patio that could have affected our meal. It also felt like there was a new chef as the food was good but not as good as we're accustomed to here. My favorite dishes in the past were the Black Cod and Salmon. Both are gone. So were the wonderful flatbreads. My Branzino was ok but in a town where everyone makes it, it was very ordinary and had almost none of the promised minted pea puree. The Caprese salad was odd as it came in a bib bowl with a huge portion of ordinary cherry tomatoes and just a couple vert tasty slices of heirlooms. A smaller salad with just the heirlooms and burette not drenched in tomato juice would have been better. We'll come back because its a great neighbor spot and only hope this was an off night. BTW, the service, as always was terrific.
Ambiance was great, waiter was knowledgable, accessible and accommodating…service was excellent and waiter was attentive thru out and after the meal….big plus here.… My wife liked the food very much (duck) and wine. I was not ecstatic over the bread…not my type. Perhaps two or three types of bread in a basket to choose from. My dinner (lobster ravioli) was great looking and it was obvious that a lot of care had gone into it's preparation. However it was too salty for me (maybe not for others) but within context and I ate it. I also had a Caesar's Salad……..what's the word salty? and too much garlic (my wife's comment).
All in all it was a nice experience and we will be back.
