Culinary Service was inadequate to meet the needs of a full restaurant. The food was well seasoned but, for several of our group, was not cooked to order or was not what was ordered.
Service was very slow and the servers gave no explanation.
I believe the restaurant has great potential but management has to up its game.

We stumbled upon this place via a recommendation from someone we met at the beach in Winnetka. The group I was with are all from the UK and we were just trying to see a bit of the nicer Chicago suburbs. We have since made another trip from downtown Chicago up to Wilmette with the main reason for traveling that far (well it's pretty far for an Uber) being this place.

We couldn't recommend this restaurant highly enough. Such a fun place and the guys running it are awesome. The food is really, really good. Lot of meat based dishes (unsurprisingly) cooked beautifully. I know one member of the party who previously worked as a chef at a fairly prestigious UK restaurant said the octopus was literally one of the best things he had ever had! The steak was delicious as were all the sides we tried. Well worth a visit if you are ever in the area.

Went to the chop house for the first time and last I might add! Got there around 7 pm on a Saturday night, should of known then as there were only a total of four tables with people at them.

Service was decent at first, but got bad very fast. Our salad never arrived, but our meals did. Asked if we could have our salad first and they sent back the food. The food came after we had our salad, my pork chop was cold. Obviously, they just let our food sit in the back while it was fully cooked. My dates fish was at proper heat. She ate her meal completely before my pork chop even came back. After at least ten minutes of waiting the pork chop came back. Thought maybe they were cooking a new one, however, it was the same one as evidenced by the few bites I took before returning it were still missing from the chop. The pork chop tasted just like ham, Really not very good at all.

Time to pay and wanting to get out of this place, gave the waiter a coupon that says it expires 12 31 2015. He said they no longer accept that coupon. Unreal! The owner came out and this guy was just rude and could not believe the way he talked to us. We told him about the missing salad and the cold food and he said sorry we are short handed. Really! Only 6 tables had people sitting at them.

Bottom line: bad service, rude owner, overpriced and the food not very good.

It was so nice to get a first-class steak, cooked perfectly, without the noise and drama that we often find at the high-end steak chains. Nice desserts (bananas Foster!) and wine list seemed fine; I noticed no corkage fee on Wednesdays. We have been twice and both times left happy and relaxed.

The proprietor is right there to help wait tables and really was gracious with everybody. We were glad to have made a reservation; this is not a big restaurant and walk-ins were being turned away...not a bad sign either.

This was a real treat for my wife and I. We had one of the greatest waiters ever and he was amazing in his service.
We ate scallop appetizers, heirloom tomatoes salad and then my wife the cobia whitefish and I had the smoked pork chop. Their food was outstanding. It was incredible. We had the lava cake for desert so we were bloated like ticks when we left.
Btw, it was Thursday, which was bourbon night. I had excellent bourbon for five bucks a glass.
Strongly recommend this place.

Creative but pricey. Several items were sold out from a very limited menu. I reconciled the limited menu based on the fact that the restaurant is small and intimate. The items we did order were all very good.

Food was decent, however service was bad. My steak was very good, but my husband ordered a steak medium and it came out rare. He did not bother to complain because the service was slow the entire night except when we first walked in and sat down. They brought bread and wine immediately and then after that they stopped by a few times but always seemed in a hurry . The waiter told us about the deserts as he walked away and was talking to another waiter. I would not recommend this place.

We really wanted to like this place, since despite the increasing number of restaurants in Wilmette there still aren't many good choices. It was quiet and very pleasant inside. The main service people (owners? managers?) were OK, but the chef-in-training more than made up for it. He was lively, had a great sense of humor, was very attentive and capable. The food was definitely OK, but seemed like it was trying too hard (too much sauce/dressing, etc). Guildhouse in Glencoe was a somewhat similar style, but with a much lighter touch. For the price, Chop House wasn't worth it.

It's nice to have such a great fine dining place very close to home. The decor and ambiance was quite nice with intimate small booths. The chef/owner greeted us as we came in and the waitress was very efficient and friendly. We had Steak Fritts because it was the smallest steak on the menu and it was still too much to eat. The food and wine was superb. A bit pricey for Wilmette, but it beats driving a long distance to have a place for special occasions. Lighter food was on the menu, too, which makes it quite affordable for a casual night out, too. We'll go again.

Very wet night, raining cats and dogs. Not many other diners. Good was full of flavor. Restaurant owner personally stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying our experience. Check it out if you are in the area.

The food was tremendous - cold carrot soup with cilantro on top and candied nuts in it was creative and flavorful, caesar salad had nice touch of anchovies, and the grouper had a very light, flavorful tomato broth and marinated onions which was outstanding! The chef/owner was amiable
and waiting tables, which is always a nice touch; however he was clearly understaffed and couldn't keep up. We sat there for nearly half an hour before even getting noticed or attended to by anyone - then we ordered a glass of wine and the aforementioned soup and salad. Another twenty minutes later we inquired about the soup and salad and the waiter (chef/owner's son) said it seemed our order wasn't put in. We asked if they didn't at least have some bread for the tables, and he said "oh, he didn't put that out?" A while later our soup and salad finally arrived, and as I said they were delicious. Then significantly later our main courses came. We were not in any hurry at all, but it took two hours to get all of our food and eat. The owner/chef was apologetic and said he had been caught off-guard by the large crowd that night, and graciously offered a free desert. Given how good the food was, I will be giving this restaurant another try in hopes that it was indeed just an off/understaffed evening. Because otherwise we really liked it.

My husband and I have been to Wilmette Chop House numerous times since it has opened, and we just went again with it under new owership and with a new menu. Many of the familiar items are still on the menu, there is just a tad bit more variety now. For one of the first times in my life I did have to send my entree back because it was medium to well done and I had requested medium rare. The waiter apologized repeatedly and when my meal returned, it was exactly medium rare and delicious as usual. This minor glitch won't keep me from returning to the restaurant.

Had a magnificent birthday dinner here on a recent Friday night. So refreshing to see a vibrant downtown scene in Wilmette - with so many restaurants to choose from - we were was lucky enough to have heard of (by word of mouth) The Wilmette Chop House.

Menu is unpretentious with many choices. Wine pairing is "on point". Food was absolutely delicious!

Décor and ambience inviting - but most important - the staff made us feel welcome and special! Very memorable meal and we will be coming back!

We gave this a third chance after we heard that the ownership changed, but the result was still the same. My wife's steak was massively overseasoned for her taste. My steak was average, neither great nor bad. For the price, more should be expected. The tomatoes were bland in the caprese. There were only 3 tables full all night and service was still pedestrian. I've heard the pork chops are better, but none of us chose that entrée. Wilmette desperately needs a fine dining establishment, but this just isn't it.

Learning that Wilmette Chop House is under new management and chef, we took a chance as it is an adorable cozy restaurant and just what we wanted for date night. Warmly welcomed by the owner/chef, we chose a back booth and proceeded to enjoy a delicious bottle of red, a caprese salad (looked like the Cat in the Hat - cool!), Halibut and Salmon, both prepared beautifully, then a wicked Bananas Foster dessert. Definitely going back soon!

We went with another couple and the food came to the table very slowly- when it did arrive, all 4 meals were cold- thought the meal was very expensive.

Although the food was good, the service was intolerable. The reason is that there are only two waiters, and one runner who busses tables, delivers food, pours water, etc.. They are all very pleasant, but you can't satisfy north shore customers this way. Hire more people or you don't have a chance.

Our second dinner was as excellent as the first. Friendly, hospitable staff welcomed us in and started the experience. Lawrence made great recommendations for wine, appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. He knows his "stuff" and ALL recomendations were "spot on". The food was presented well and tasted great. Prices are reasonable. I will continue to highly recommend The Wilmette Chop House!

Great experience. Had a Friday evening 6:00 p.m. reservation for four--my wife, myself, and my parents. We were the first ones in that evening. The chef gave us personalized attention--perfect balance of humor, making sure we were attended to, and giving us our privacy. The food was excellent. All of it. All four of us enjoyed dining there very much. We are going back. We are telling our friends. All dishes were very good. The pork chop is the best I've ever had. Desserts too...awesome. Ambiance too is great. Quiet. We sat by the window which looked out onto the neighborhood street. The tasteful jazz music playing in the background added to it all.

great ny strip steak! Better than high end steakhouses.

The beat salad is a must.

The flourless chocolate cake was light and full with flavor.

Noise level was conversationally challenging, small room with 3 large groups. Service was slow but food as arrived was good, per 3 out of 4 guests'. Upon arrival, waiter advised Entertainment Book discount offer was not honored.

Had a great meal with fantastic service on Valentine's Day. Can't wait to go back. Apparently the new owner is stuck with the old name and the poor goodwill associated with the old name. This is a completely different restaurant. He may want to consider changing the name or asking yelp to clear our pre-existing reviews.

Took another couple there for his 70th birthday. A treat all around for us! Fine food. Fine sevice. Nice wine list with enough good selections by the glass. I would highly recommend the Wilmette Chop House to anyone. It's small and itimate and has no hint of "corporate feeding" that too many restaurants have today. Menu covered all price points from burgers through top-quality steaks. Couldn't be better!

This is under new ownership and we had a fantastic experience. The food was outstanding. We had very good service and the chef came out to every table. Would highly recommend this restaurant.
