Willie G's Ratings and Reviews
Willy G's has valet parking only. Be prepared for that. You walk in to a very nice establishment (on the more formal side). We were seated and waited on promptly. The appetizer was delicious (Seafood Trash?). It was shrimp and crab meat flavored very well. We order the Amberjack which was seasoned a little light but still tasty. The veggies were delish. A 10.00 side salad was ordered, but be prepared for all of the ingredients. If you don't like beet flakes and other such items you might ask a few questions before ordering. For us it was a waste of 10.00. We also ordered the boiled shrimp. They were large, beautiful and served ice cold, but I fear had very little taste unless you drowned them in sauce. Our meals did not come out at the same time, as my meal (boiled shrimp) must have gotten mixed up with another meal. We had to ask for the sauces that we were told came with the Amberjack. We had to ask for bread that was offered to us but not delivered.
I drank water and he had one draft beer. We did not ordered dessert. Just to give you an good estimate on pricing, our bill was 103.00. This was not over the top, but I have had seafood just as good for less than half the price. If you are looking for a more formal atmosphere for a special occasion this may be the place for you. If you are going just for the food, you can find it at a much more reasonable price.
This is there new location, and it's beautiful inside. I got the seafood platter and I didn't care for the seasoning, but I loved the garlic bread and the tea. The staff was nice and managers came over to make sure everything was ok. I will definitely go back but try a different dish next time.
The new location and venue are very different than the old location on S. Post Oak. If you are looking for the comfortable surroundings of the old Willie G's the new place will be disappointing. It's another restaurant Landry's has reinvented and feels like a lot of their other restaurants. If you want fun, young and loud you might.like it.
3 of us spent $240 for dining and was very disappointed. Been to the previous Willie G's tens of times for the many years it was available in Houston. Yes the new atmosphere was beautiful but it comes at a deep price. Willie G's was always on my list as the place that we can go to regularly, fairly priced, well portioned meals, good quality/service, and easy to find parking. This new Willie G's is trying to act as a NEW upscale establishment but instead is trying to treat locals as tourists by pricing dishes high, giving low portions, valet only parking, and etc. One would not be full by eating a fish plate + appetizer + dessert. Since I'm not a fan of parts of the dish, I requested to sub the side order of Rice for some extra veggies or Asparagus. The waiter came back and was disappointed as well that he couldn't mod our meal and would have to charge an extra $5. So while Willie G's is trying to act as an upscale restaurant they are instead pulling off McDonald's style moves. Service was excellent and the staff was indeed well trained from entry to exit. Valet parking was a bit busy just like Mastro's. To add more disappointment either the restaurant forgot it was noted as an Anniversary or doesn't celebrate birthdays/anniversary's with a simple cake. Unfortunately Willie G's is not going to be one of my goto's unless they fix these issues. I rather pay $50 more per person and actually get real food across the street at Mastro's.
Great place. Very disappointed to see they took my 8 pm reservation on open table showing many dining times when there was an obvious wait time. Arrives at 8 pm and was told they we would have a short wait time. It was very crowded making it difficult to even get to the bar for a drink. At 8:30 we were able to find a seat at the prep area bar once someone left. I finally was called at 8:50 for my table. At that point we had already ordered our meals and ate at the prep bar. Very disappointed in there reservation practices. Food and service once seated was excellent. To go to the effort to make a reservation and it not be honored will keep me from going back.
The service was excellent. The food was very good. We were seated quickly and served quickly. Everything arrived in the right order and in a timely manner. The staff was very friendly. Fantastic gumbo and broiled seafood platter finished off with beignets and creme brulee.
We have been going to Willie's G for over 25 years and have always enjoyed it and found it to be consistent in food and service. The new location is beautiful and very upscale, which I enjoy and was pleasantly surprised! Our waiter, Sasan, who we requested to be in our area, was as always, excellent! He knows what martini's we enjoy, menu items we love, etc. The menu has changed somewhat, so he had excellent recommendations knowing our choices from the past location. Really nice restaurant and beautifully decorated. Definitely be back and have already recommended it to some friends who have not been to the new location yet.
Overall we were pleased with the food and table service, but it didn't start out well. We had made reservations through Open Table and I specifically noted that we needed a table with wheelchair access for my 90-year old mother. The greeter took us right to the table but didn't help at all in moving a chair out of the way so my mom could get to the table. I stood there and waited for him to do something, but he did nothing. I finally had to drag the chair out of the way myself.
That said, the menu was wide-ranging (mainly seafood, not much in the way of steak options, it seemed) and it was tough to pick among the attractive options. Overall, we had a pretty good time.
It was Christmas Day, I shouldn’t have expected much. The food was good as always, but we were seated in the bar area when we had a reservation. Restaurant was barely had full for the more formal tables. Waiter was nice but a little scattered, initially brought the wrong meal to my girlfriend, but it was quickly fixed. Not my usual experience at the restaurant I won’t be frequenting anymore.
Overall our dining experience was good. The African American hostess (who try to check us in) was very rude to us and she had no idea how to bring up the open table reservation. Another hostess pushed her out of the way and she found our reservation. Our waiter was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. The food itself was excellent as well.
Roger is the most fabulous waiter! He was dynamic, efficient, gave excellent recommendations (although most of us had dined there before he helped with the specials!!). Know we were on a time crunch (holiday celebration over lunch) he moved us "gently" through appetizers, first courses and mains and STILL had us finished in an hour and a half! He is my GO TO waiter at Willie G's now!!
