Willie G's Ratings and Reviews
Great place. Very disappointed to see they took my 8 pm reservation on open table showing many dining times when there was an obvious wait time. Arrives at 8 pm and was told they we would have a short wait time. It was very crowded making it difficult to even get to the bar for a drink. At 8:30 we were able to find a seat at the prep area bar once someone left. I finally was called at 8:50 for my table. At that point we had already ordered our meals and ate at the prep bar. Very disappointed in there reservation practices. Food and service once seated was excellent. To go to the effort to make a reservation and it not be honored will keep me from going back.
The service was excellent. The food was very good. We were seated quickly and served quickly. Everything arrived in the right order and in a timely manner. The staff was very friendly. Fantastic gumbo and broiled seafood platter finished off with beignets and creme brulee.
We have been going to Willie's G for over 25 years and have always enjoyed it and found it to be consistent in food and service. The new location is beautiful and very upscale, which I enjoy and was pleasantly surprised! Our waiter, Sasan, who we requested to be in our area, was as always, excellent! He knows what martini's we enjoy, menu items we love, etc. The menu has changed somewhat, so he had excellent recommendations knowing our choices from the past location. Really nice restaurant and beautifully decorated. Definitely be back and have already recommended it to some friends who have not been to the new location yet.
Overall we were pleased with the food and table service, but it didn't start out well. We had made reservations through Open Table and I specifically noted that we needed a table with wheelchair access for my 90-year old mother. The greeter took us right to the table but didn't help at all in moving a chair out of the way so my mom could get to the table. I stood there and waited for him to do something, but he did nothing. I finally had to drag the chair out of the way myself.
That said, the menu was wide-ranging (mainly seafood, not much in the way of steak options, it seemed) and it was tough to pick among the attractive options. Overall, we had a pretty good time.
It was Christmas Day, I shouldn’t have expected much. The food was good as always, but we were seated in the bar area when we had a reservation. Restaurant was barely had full for the more formal tables. Waiter was nice but a little scattered, initially brought the wrong meal to my girlfriend, but it was quickly fixed. Not my usual experience at the restaurant I won’t be frequenting anymore.
Overall our dining experience was good. The African American hostess (who try to check us in) was very rude to us and she had no idea how to bring up the open table reservation. Another hostess pushed her out of the way and she found our reservation. Our waiter was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and courteous. The food itself was excellent as well.
Roger is the most fabulous waiter! He was dynamic, efficient, gave excellent recommendations (although most of us had dined there before he helped with the specials!!). Know we were on a time crunch (holiday celebration over lunch) he moved us "gently" through appetizers, first courses and mains and STILL had us finished in an hour and a half! He is my GO TO waiter at Willie G's now!!
This was a very convenient spot for me to meet a client for lunch. The service provided by Jose M. was impeccable and I always receive the same great service each time I visit. Definitely a great spot for a business meal, company party, or any other occasion.
LOVE the Galveston location. Saw the Houston Galleria location was open for Thanksgiving and made reservations. Delicious! Great, personable service. Miss the "old" Willie G's atmosphere and prices, but love the new upscale decor and awesome service. They were gracious, catering to my elderly mother and her walker. Thank you! Made our holiday!
We ordered Sea Bass for a special occasion in September for my birthday and it was very good. But upon our return for another special occasion in November, the same Sea Bass was not as good; tasted like cod liver oil and not cooked as thoroughly. We didn’t want to complain since it was a special occasion, but wanted to send in our feedback. I have been dining at Willie G’s since it opened. The garlic bread was very buttery and chunks of garlic; not like it used to be.
My wife and I went here for our 1st wedding anniversary and my birthday celebration. We had a awesome server his name was James he catered to our every need and want. We recommend this restaurant to all our family and friends. We'll back real soon !!! Thanks Willie G's !!!
The special starter was too expensive. Each item on the plate had a separate charge. This was not explained until the bill was brought to the table. The price for the special starter was around $60.00. Had I known this, we might not have ordered it or a least known what we were getting into. I feel we were ripped off. I had to ask the waiter what the four or five different charges were on the bill. He then explained that's the way it gets charges.
You need to up front with your customers. I do not say we would not have ordered it anyway but we should have been told the price. Everyone left saying "this is the last time we eat here!" There were five of us.
