Willie G's Ratings and Reviews
Having visited the old Willie G's repeatedly during the past, I was very disappointed with the new one. You went from a nice. quiet, pleasant atmosphere with great food to a very loud, raucous and chaotic asylum with great food. Unfortunately, the great food does not make up for the totally miserable "energetic" atmosphere.
The new Willie G is a very good restaurant but don’t go there expecting any kind of a Louisiana influenced menu. The menu is pretty much the same as you would find at McCormick and Schmick’s, Eddie V’s, or any other top end seafood and steakhouse. The space itself is beautiful and the service is outstanding. I’m going to miss the old Willie G’s! Go to Brennen’s instead if you want the old G’s.
New location is lovely. Spouse and I went for valentine’s day.
Meal - salad dressing was tasty. Thanks for using some dark greens. Nothing irks us more than iceberg lettuce being passed along as healthy greens. Salad was a bit wilted tho and may have been sitting out for a while before it got to us...it was wilted and lukewarm. Food was tasty. Wife ordered the stone crabs claws. She thinks you should add a side or two for the price. The claws seemed small but were tasty. Not all were cracked where she had easy access to the meat so she had to work for it with the cracker that the waiter brought her. My blackened fish was tasty but a little dry. Apple blonde dessert was REALLY delicious!!! Drinks were reasonably priced.
Service- we had Jimmy as our waiter. We really liked him. Very professional, knowledgeable about your menu, prompt, and friendly. He told us about the brunch as well so we may try that one day.
Location-valet parking seemed a must but you should give people a self park option. We didn’t see it but then again that was our first time to the new location. Thank you for taking reservations! The seafood display at the front is a nice touch. Decor and design very nice. Music was way too loud and difficult to have a conversation without having to lean in or speak a little louder than usual. For Valentine’s Day, maybe some more romantic music piping through would have been nicer or balance out the playlist.
Overall pretty good first experience at this location. We would visit again.
The building and decor are outstanding. Just a beautiful restaurant. Desserts, cocktails and wine was fabulous. Our server was not very good. Our 4 crab claw appetizer took 30 minutes to arrive after ordering - Monday night restaurant was not crowded. My broiled Red Snapper was good, but not better than Babin's - sister restaurant. I left feeling i paid a premium price but didn't receive a premium experience. My guest ordered a Ribeye steak and he had high compliments for the steak!
Disappearing Open Table Reservation- How does that happen when you call in to confirm, receive an open table email confirmation and you show up on time? I am perplexed. We were finally seated in the "bar area" 45 minutes later. The food was wonderful and the service from Jonathan was great. The restaurant was extremely busy on Saturday evening but no excuse for a seasoned establishment. First time visit was a disappointment since this was our Valentine dinner all be it, a few days early. We had hoped to avoid the typical mishaps that often occur on Valentines eve but we landed right in the center of disappointment.
The service was absolutely terrible. Table was not ready until well passed the reservation time. Rude hostesses. Very bad waitress who was not attentive to our table. Food came out at separate times. Took an unreasonable amount of time to get drinks. Manager was not apologetic and simply said just bear with us. Such a shame it's a beautiful restaurant but I can not remember having such a bad dining experience. Not sure we will be back.
The food, ambiance, decor, and service were all great! We were very surprised at how good everything was. My filet was seasoned perfectly and the blackened dungeness crab was awesome. I also highly recommend the generous amount of beignets, with their 3 different dipping sauces.
The one thing that stood out as very poor was the valet service. It was a rainy day and I tried to pull up under the roof at the valet stand, but one of the valets stood in the way. I figured he knew if I was far enough under for the passenger side to be covered, but it was not. My wife had to get the umbrella, open her own door and walk through the rain. If that wasn't enough, when we were leaving, it took about 10 minutes to hand the ticket to someone, even though I was standing there waiving it in the air trying to get someone's attention. The valet then stood behind the valet podium, asked my wife for the ticket, who had to ask me for it after he just walked past me holding the ticket in the air. When our vehicle was being backed out to where we were, it came within 12 inches or so of the other vehicle waiting to leave. That seemed very close considering all the space available. When it stopped, the valet came out, stood at the driver's door, and looked the other direction. No one bothered to open my wife's door, say thanks...nothing. I got in and closed the door with no tip.
I hope the valet team can read this and understand that Applebee's level of service was given, but not a Willie G's/Mastros level of service. Tips are EARNED, not required. Also, the worst part is, this service, though not provided by the restaurant directly, is very reflective on the restaurant and will influence our decision to return.
There was a bit of a reservation issue at first because more seats were needed than they could accommodate with the online reservation but the onsite manager of the night worked it out. I had the best birthday dinner ever in the private dinner room. The ambiance was fabulous and the restaurant was beautiful. Ryan and Rita were great to us. Thank you for a wonderful evening and superb experience.
The gumbo was thin, no bread was offered, the service was good but not up to west loop level, or equal to the prices of the food. The oysters Rockefeller were not crispy on top, and over salted. The main courses were very good. The ambiance was very good. Overall, very good but not top notch.
Was there with my 86 year old mother and asked for the quietest spot in the restaurant. They sat us way back in corner of restaurant they had the curtains. Was perfect. Music could have been a little lower, but she did fine. Loved our meal. We all had simply prepared fish and shared the bread pudding for dessert. Was great!
Excellent service from entrance to host and wait staff. Everyone was polite and engaging. Timing was great and atmosphere was really fun! I like this location so much better than the old restaurant. Menu was fun and they offered a huge variety. Loved the raw bar selection and BBQ BACON-wrapped shrimp. Would be fun for a happy hour and has a fun patio.
Beautiful restaurant, good food. It was a quiet night but it took us over 3 hours to get through dinner because service was so slow. The waiter was nice, but especially with so few people in the restaurant, I think service could have been much more attentive and timely.
We went to the new Willie G’s to celebrate my husband’s birthday. The place is gorgeous and we were seated almost immediately. The Chilean Sea bass was delicious!! Our server, Tanay (sp) was knowledgeable and she was friendly and even walked us to the bar after dinner so we could have a nightcap. Love this restaurant!
We had a 6:30 reservation. We arrived and were seated. One of our guest arrived and was sent to the bar and not directed to our table. We had to connect up ourselves. Very disappointing.
We were there last week and excellent services! Three managers came by to see how things were. That was not the experience today. Our waiter was not very attentive. Drinks were often empty. Got our drank wrong to start off with. There were 6 in the party and the main course was very delayed in serving! Definitely not the service we had last week!
Not the same opinion that I had last week.
I will say the food was good!
This new location is very nice but the service is still very much in soft-opening phase. A reservation noted for a birthday celebration was directed to the bar area of the restaurant rather than the more formal area with white tablecloths on the right. This should be an nuisance for the hosts but apparently it was. The servers seemed very well-intentioned but were definitely not polished: a glass was dropped and shattered right behind one guest in our party, two courses were served to the wrong people, and the tables in the dining room are VERY close together. Waiters and patrons alike were running into one another throughout the evening. Again, the space is very nice, but because of crammed furniture and very loud music, it’s not as enjoyable as it could be.
The menu is also pretty unclear and confusing. The fresh market fish are wonderful options, but flipping between two different menus seems unnecessary.
Would like to return but will wait a while for the restaurant to figure out its own kinks.
