Wild Onion Tied House
We chose the name Wild Onion in honor of the origins of Chicago’s name. “Che-cau-gua” was the phrase the original inhabitants of the region, the Potawatomi, used to describe the wild onions that grew throughout the area’s wetlands near the shores of Lake Michigan. We loved the imagery of the early French Canadian fur traders paddling their canoes down the Chicago River, surrounded by the distinctly aromatic wild onions as they approached the “big lake”. We believed it was the perfect name for a new brewery with old ties to the city.
Birthday for my husband!
Bartender was terrific. Took time to tell us about beers.
Food was great!
Good music, good beer, and good food. My main issue is that the food portions are giant. I wish there were small meal options (not apps or bar bites) for less money.
We have been here several times with our family and friends. We keep coming back for the beer selection and the great food. Live band on weekends is a plus
Great live music. Good food. Good beer.
I have been to Wild Onion many times and have always had great food, drinks, and service. The ambience is cozy and the music is very good.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff. Delicious food. Vast array of fantastic craft beers
Overall the place was not worth the price or service. Got the fish and chips and a flight of beer. Wife got a beer, goat cheese app and veggie burger. Beer selection was large and the ambiance was nice. But the food was very disappointing. Nothing was seasoned, not even the fries. Server spilled the first flight on table and thoughout the 2 hour stay the service was slow when trying to get an order in. Food did come out quick but nothing was great. Would not recommend this place outside of drinks.
Great, friendly service. Fantastic selection of in-house craft beers. To-go beers. Delicious steak tacos!
Went with a party of 6 for a birthday brunch. The beer was good, the food was just ok, but the service was totally disinterested and as far as possible from accommodating.
One person asked for a cup of coffee, was told they didn’t know if they had any, but if she really wanted it, he could brew a new pot. The same person asked for a poached egg and was told, “No, the guys in the kitchen don’t want to poach eggs.”
Someone else asked what kind of toast was available and was told, “Toast doesn’t come with that.” Once it was pointed out that it was on the menu, the server replied “We only have white or rye toast”. The same person’s steak was tough, and the side was different then described by the server.
Another person noted that there was French toast on the kid’s menu and asked if an adult-sized version could be made and was told, “No.”
One round of drinks took 15 minutes to receive.
During our time at Wild Onion Tied House there was never more than 15 other patrons at tables. Neither the kitchen, nor the servers were busy.
We really want this place to succeed, and wanted to go there specifically to support them as a great option in the community, and knowing that foot traffic has been reduced there due to construction. We left feeling like we give more of a damn about their success then they do.
Good happy hour specials on food, great beer selection. Open seating plan
From the hostess to the bartender everyone Aleah’s very friendly and helpful. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and offered drink and meal suggestions. We had a large party and they accommodated a additional persons to our arighnal reservation. Food was delicious with great portions. Beers were also good. We will definitely be back.
Great music with Lindee Cavalier!
Our first time dining here. We took the metra from the burbs and it couldn’t be easier, right across the street from station. Burgers, fries, smoked fish and tied house board and calamari was fresh, hot and delicious. We will be back!
Food was good. Music was very loud.
I had fish and chips.
waitstaff said it was not frozen but breading looked like all the frozen prepared fish. Fries were well cooked but soggy not crisp. The beer I had was good.
Waiter was kinda slow and it wasn’t very busy. It was kinda loud in there. Food was very good but needed salt. Portion size was good.
Great beer and service. Decent food. Live music was great
Bday dinner. Ambiance was great with 2 of the guys performing guitar and piano. It made the whole experience better. At first we were seated in the other corner of the restaurant which is a little more private but sort of isolated at the same time. We asked to be moved and we sat next to the bar and closer to the live music. Food was delicious i had the carne asada plate which comes on a wooden platter with vegetables. The meat was so tender and juicy. My other guests had the ribs-and he was so impressed even said best ribs ever. Drinks are great cocktails and their own crafted beer. Overall great experience worth th $.
Loved the wait staff, and the food even more. An Oak Park gem. Will be returning in the near future. House smoked meats!!!
Great food, great beer, great service. Our #1 go to in OP
Great music! We enjoyed Lindee Cavalier so much! They have a variety of original songs and covers.
Kids night is a wonderful idea. Wish they sold a plain burger though...
We had a really great lunch at Wild Onion today. My three year old twin grandsons enjoyed their lunch and the server was very accommodating. Nice restaurant for families. Food and drinks were great, as always.
Excellent service, great beer, poor to marginal food
The selection of food was great and the food itself even better. We tried both a craft beer and a mixed drink and we very happy that both were unique and tasty. The service was outstanding and friendly as well.
Excellent service. The food was very good with attention to detail and presentation. The beer choices were numerous and our server helped us negotiate it.
Great selection of in-house craft brews. Helpful staff.
Fun menu, really enjoyed the food and drinks.
Went here with family and a couple of friends. Had read the positive reviews before so my expectations were quite high. We were not disappointed. Great menu and very good service. The craft beer selection was creative and high quality. The live band added a little extra. Wild Onion has a great concept going and we will be back!
Kids night is a great idea
The great beer goes with the really tasty food. They also make lovely cocktails. The service is quite good, and nice fellow patrons round out the excellent experience.
We tried it for the first time on Father's Day because it was just too hot to cook and my husband wanted ribs. When I did a search, this came up. We LOVED it! The food was fantastic, service was great and they even gave us a discount on the bill because they said it took so long for our food to come out but we honestly didn't even notice. They have an extensive craft beer list; delicious-looking cocktails and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Plus, it was really reasonably priced. We will definitely go back and want to check out the live music!!!
Great music- Lindee Cavalier!!
Met a business partner for lunch and sat outside. Our waitress was attentive, nice, and knowledgeable. We both had the Ruben with mac & cheese. It was excellent. The inside restaurant is brand new and looks great. I would definitely go back for brunch, lunch, dinner, or drinks.
Awesome restaurant with great beer and food. Server made the whole table happy and was super attentive.
Our group of six were all very pleased with the great food and beers offered. I personally enjoyed the steak with greens and special mashed potatoes.
Food was just okay. One dish had burned vegetables. The biggest problem was it was so noisy that we had to shout to converse. There was a duo that were too loud for the place plus they had their amplifier turned up. Ate quickly and left. Won’t go back.
A nice neighborhood place, with great food and a good selection of beer. We will definite back!
A very pleasant surprise. I love Oak Park for its growing restaurant and bar scene. Rivals the city in many ways. I expected standard bar fare at Wild Onion Tied House, WOTH, as a similar restaurant next door closed-presumably due to uninspired offering. WOTH is everything but that. Our group of 11 enjoyed perfect cod fish and chips, creative cocktails, the burger you always hope you'll get, spot on wings in unforgettable sauce, fried pickles and several nice beers. Very friendly and attentive staff. Especially appealing was that we never heard the following: "We serve small plates and recomend four to five per person as a starter followed by your entrees". One place I can't wait to go back to.
