At the heart of the vibrant Tucson gastronomic scene is a quaint, family owned restaurant that has made a name for itself by combining the classical French education of Executive Chef Steven Schultz with the flavors of traditional southwest cuisine. Driven by the vision of casual fine dining that he shares with wife and Maudi Gourdin, the pair have managed to make The Wild Garlic Grill one of Tucson’s premiere destinations for food lovers from all walks of life. That all too familiar aroma of garlic will titillate your senses from the moment you step through the front door, followed instantly by the pageantry of Chef and his crew hard at work in the open kitchen where you can watch your meal as it is prepared. One can sense the warmth that emanates from their comradery and dedication and it doesn’t take long to notice that the front of house staff shares the same passion. It’s almost as if they are one big happy family…

I have been fortunate to eat regularly in the Bay area for over 50 years. I usually go to Perbaco or the Tadditch Grill in the city perhaps Bistro Jeanty (I eat there more than some locals)in Yountville, just a few examples. So as a recent transplant to Tucson since 1993 I find there are a few places here that serve up fine dining. One of Tucson's gems in the foothills is this place. It certainly has its fault (not Via Carota by any means) but overall the food is usually good but there's too much of it. The food is just plated with too much going on including the amount food itself. You'd never see this in Manhattan or France. Secondly, what is the mystery of trying to remember 10-12 items & instead printing them on a piece of paper with prices "casually" mentioned. It's a ridiculous presentation for the server to recite the specials for the day multiple times going from table to table. Trying to remember 10-12 items is not appreciated. Nor is the surprise tariffs on these specials made easy. So if you order one of the specials & think it will resemble in cost as the entrees printed on the menu you're in for sticker shock. This is not ilMulino (NYC) but you'll still be expected to pay for a $65 veal chop that although is delicious it's Tucson. On the night we were there they offered a three course dinner choices that were delicious and priced around $50. The wine by the glass is unfortunately a challenge by my spoiled pallet where the reds are marginally better than the White wines.

We both enjoyed the surf and turf special. Everything was delicious and I anticipate it will be delicious again when we eat the rest of it as leftovers. Very generous portions

The food was excellent and you get plenty of it. The server was attentive. Good cocktails as well. The mussels are one of our favorite things to order as an appetizer. We shall return.

We really wanted to like this place but have been disappointed twice and are unlikely to return. The patio seating next to the courtyard is lovely. The menu looks great but was poorly executed on both visits. Risotto was runny and left a puddle in the plate. Entrees were overflowing, overwhelmingly so, with such an odd variety of vegetables that it was quite unappetizing. It looked like someone went crazy at a buffet and randomly overloaded their dish with some of everything. On second visit I asked for spinach only, in hopes to avoid an overfull plate, but it was bland and mushy. I eat a lot of vegetables and appreciate pretty much all kinds but the plating was just too much and too random. Ahi Tuna was an overly large think chunk and sinewy. On second visit, risotto was again runny. Caesar salad was fine except I’d note it came with additional items not listed on the menu and not typically seen in a Caesar salad (olives, tomatoes and cucumbers). I enjoyed the additions but others may not appreciate the added unlisted items. If I did return, I would stick with a salad. Service was fine the first visit and painfully slow the second time.

This has to be one of the best meals of my lifetime! The Wednesday night special I opted for was for filet mignon and lobster and both were just succulent...the lobster just melted in my mouth. Salad was superb, dessert and drinks outstanding. Fantastic service and a great decor. I just wish I lived closer to this awesome , well run establishment.

Lovely lunch menu. Option to dine inside or out depending on the weather - large and nice patio. The service was attentive but not overbearing and the food was as always, delicious. And beautifully presented.

We were asked upon being seated if we were celebrating a special occasion. We responded yes, our anniversary. Not sure why they asked because they did nothing to acknowledge it. Food was marginal. Drinks & service were excellent.
