Wienstein & Gavino's Ratings and Reviews
Merci
Seated promptly when we arrived on time for our reservation. People without reservations were waiting, so glad we used the reservation service. Multi-level restaurant like so many in that area; noise levels are right up there.
Lasagna was just ok. Ditto for the whole grain penne with the salmon & cream sauce. Teeny tiny portions of salmon. Taste was fine, but I was hoping for something recognizable as salmon pieces. Good wine selection by the glass. Glad the server told us that the Caesar salads were gigantic; we each had side salads instead which were fine.
Probably will not put this on my must return list. It was fine, but nothing overly special.
The ambience of the restaurant was nice and pleasant.
Our server never checked on us after we received our appetizers as he was never to be seen to catch his attention. We did not receive bread as well as it looked like every single table had bread.
We also waited 45-50 minutes for our main courses (risottos) and were extremely patient as we did not want to cause a fuss. It was only then that it became quite upsetting when we tasted our risottos and it was just bland unfortunately.
We may give it another chance, but it was just a tough experience for us.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening in this beautiful restaurant. I had chicken parm and my wife had a pesto shrimp pasta . We had a young gentleman as our waiter and he was terrific. Very good value for the food drinks and service we received. Next time we visit Montreal we will be back.
Enjoyed my meal. Appreciated the gluten free menu options. Staff are friendly and service is good. Just find that the noise level makes it challenging to converse even when you are sitting close by to one another. So best to go in off hours. Will return again.
Our server, Catherine, was awesome! She made the dining experience here worthwhile. The food was ok, rather ordinary and standard fare for basic Italian. The tomatoes in the caprese salad were not ripe or flavorful. The meats in our main dishes - a grilled shrimp add-on and the chicken parmesan - were both overcooked. Shrimp were tough and chewy. The chicken was thinner than the breading and not tender nor juicy at all. The chicken spent way too much time in the fryer. A comment to our server earned a free tiramisu - but even that was a bit disappointing. Not what we expected or anticipated at all. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel; we advised them to find an alternative for good, flavorful Italian cuisine.
Visited from out of town after seeing the high restaurant rating but was definitely disappointed with the meal. BEWARE: the menu on their website was NOT the menu we were presented with, which was a complete let down. Portions are quite large but lack any real flavour. The pasta is made fresh to order and that was a nice touch, however, the texture and taste were nothing to rave about. The Tirimisu is made with Sambuca, so for me, that was not enjoyable as it detracted from the taste. There is nothing authentic Italian tasting about the food here so please do yourself a favour and eat somewhere else if you are looking for good Italian food. Our server was pleasant but not terribly personable - the restaurant is quite busy and I can understand not having time to chit chat with customers but there was something robotic and disingenuous about him. The restaurant is extremely large and can accommodate large groups nicely. It is on Crescent Street (lots of pubs/clubs) so lots of people watching if you get a table on the patio. The food came out quite quickly as we were in and out in just over an hour.
I booked this Italian reastaurant on the basis of reviews on Open Table. I later confirmed that it was a good spot by talking to the sales staff at a store. I wanted to be sure because we had invited a couple we met on our cruise up to Montreal fron NYC to dine with my wife and I. It more than lived up to the reviews. The place was full, the vibe was livel and fun and the food was great. My wife said the pasta carbonara with fettuccine was the best she had ever ate. Highly recommended.
Took a group of eight people on a week night and the restaurant quickly filled up. Lots of energy - a little noisy - but fun. Food was good - we shared several appetizers and all of the entree portions were quite large. Location is great - right in the middle of strip of bars/restaurants on Crescent.
