White Oak Grill - Chippewa Retreat Resort
Slow service with only one server in the whole place. The bartender was willing and did help out but overall service was slow.
Food was pretty good.
We will go back and hope they get this worked out as it is a beautiful place.
Had a wonderful dinner in front if the fireplace. My salmon and orzo with fresh vegetables tasted great! My husband enjoyed his lamb too. Staff are all very attentive and helpful. Arrived just in time to catch a gorgeous sunset over Manitowish Lake from the bar.
Excellent dinner! We had the warm bacon spinach salad, I highly recommend! Followed by the New York Strip steak. Best steak I've had! I had the truffle fries and my husband had the mashed potatoes. Both sides were outstanding. The price is high! Bring your checkbook, but enjoy your dinner!
As always, service , cocktails and food were terrific.
With our group of 8 on a Wednesday night, there were items that were not available. My first drink was not correct and it was loud. With that being said, the food was great and our server was friendly and knowledgeable
Seems the chef is back on oint. Everything was great. We will be back again for sure
I thought it was not organized. Out of a entree, dessert was still being made and could not order. Salad was given to wrong person. Waiter did not know who had what without asking. Very unorganized. Steak was supposed to be medium and it was well done. We were seated in banquet area and the ambience was lacking on that side. Big disappointment.
Not the place to go after a holiday weekend--more than half the menu items were not available
I understand the restaurant is located in a family resort but it was very disappointing to have kids wildly running around while you are trying to have an enjoyable dinner; more a problem created by the parents.
Actual prices were considerably higher than those shown on the Open Table menu. Either prices were increased for the holiday (hopefully not) or they need to be updated on the site.
On the bright side the food was exceptional and good service was provided.
I would suggest going 'off season'
As a full-time resident of the area I was puzzled as to why I had never made a visit to the White Oak Grill. What a gem! The food was spectacular, as was the service. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a fantastic meal and a great atmosphere. The grounds were impeccably groomed and I could tell we were someplace special as soon as we turned into the driveway. Two thumbs up!
It was wonderful. Amazing food and family. Highly recommend and we'll be back next year. Awesome service! We were at the restaurant before the busy season started in mid-June and we had a wonderful waitress and she was training 2 new wait people -they were great. Everyone was so nice. Great experience!
Started out great bartender very nice.Service started out good but with little crowd we hardly ever saw are server Then after an hour in half wait and still no good we just laeft We were do
So disappointed because we had such a great experience the first time
Love this place, but was disappointed with the brunch offerings. Very minimal, dessert table was skimpy especially in comparison to last year. Service was excellent as usual and Omelet bar was good but no carving stations or breads and pasteries . Not a good value for the price. Disappointed.
Overall it was wonderful and we will be back. However, I ordered a fillet w bearnaise and when it was brought to the table, there wasn't any bearnaise. When I asked, I was told they were out. I probably would have ordered a different entree had I been informed at the time I ordered. A little disappointed, but as I said, I am sure we will go back.
Fireplaces(s) winter time, very nice! Good service. Nice Happy Hour. A bit under staffed.
Much improved from previous visits. Good choices on the menu. Only change we would like to see is to have salt & pepper shakers on the table.
We had a friends get together of six and enjoyed a spectacular evening of great food, great wine and great service. Todd, the general manager, was awesome. Perfect ambience and it felt like a real night out. Highly recommend.
The facility was very nice and the staff was friendly and attentive. The food was a disappointment. A $24 plate of ravioli included only six average sized ravioli. No bread was served with the meal and salads and soups were ala carte. It ended up being a pretty expensive meal that did not meet our expectations in terms of value or quality.
Good food, but very expensive! We were the only ones in the restaurant. Guessing if they charged less you'd get more people - especially since it's off season.
Excellent ambiance. Fireplaces were perfect for a chill evening. The new menu was first rate. Service at the bar and at tableside was wonderful as always.
Enjoyed Italian family night. Excellent lasagna! Great value on wine. White Oak Grill is a great choice for a nice evening out. Will definitely return.
Went for their Oktoberfest night on 9/29. Jaeger schnitzel was a great play on the traditional Jaeger Schnitzel. Nice done! Need to put some WI beers on tap - Leinenkugal!~ Ambiance was fantastic - we sat by the Fireplace on a beautiful Fall day. We would absolutely go back again! Try it out!
Wine list was adequate but, surprisingly, had several spelling errors. No bread service or relish tray or greeting from a host or hostess upon arrival. Very disappointed in the Beef Wellington(2) as well as the seafood risotto which was dry. Portion size and presentation were impressive but, for the money, too many sub par factors to this experience.
Meal was delightful . Server was extremely personable & knowledgeable regarding food & spirits. Just wish tv didn't face into dining room .
Had a party of 8 and most meals were good but 2 men had large prime rib and both were much smaller than one of the women's small cut prime rib. Both ordered medium rare and one was well done and one was medium. We sent them back and they had ran out except for one..they over cooked it a little again. We have eaten there several times and have always had good dinners but this was very disappointing as we were celebrating a birthday and the food here is not cheap. If we are going to pay large city prices we have an expectation the food will live up to those prices. Also was disappointed a manager didn't come to apologize for the inconvenience
Very nice location. I had high expectations for the food and drink. Food was OK but nothing special for the price. Bar was not overly well stocked. Wine prices were extremely high, probably to accommodate their 1/2 price bottle night. Will not hurry back given the other choices in the general area
The occasion was our 54th wedding anniversary. Very memorable meal. Duck was superb. Fireplace just right. Look forward to next visit.
We had heard good things, but our experience was not good. We had mussels as an appetizer and my wife had a snapper dish. Both tasted very fishy which we relate to not being fresh. I had a duck breast which was OK but not spectacular.
This is a pricey restaurant for the area and really not worth the price.
We are in the area every summer but this will go to the bottom of the list, much better in the same price range.
We wanted to have one "special" meal for our last night of our northern Wisconsin vacation and after research and using locals knowledge we decided on the White Oak Grill. Our family of four (including one vegetarian) had a great meal and a great time. The wine list was decent (especially for the northwoods) and the food was excellent. A final surprise was the dessert with an authentic 400 year old Italian cheesecake recipe!
Great food, good variety, nice appearance . Service was excellent.
The hostess was rude and the food was not well prepared, despite the price.
Nice atmosphere but I feel the food is not very good with the new chef. Two people in our group had the special: Crab Quesadillas with mango salsa. The crab was fishy smelling and tasting and the mango salsa seemed as though it was from a jar. The crab cakes have to much breading and lack flavor. We went for their burger night once and the included dessert was cut in half breakfast muffins. I can't recommend this place at this time and we loved it before.
My husband and I came for dinner with our 3 kids. We were a little nervous as the kids are all young. Staff was very accommodating of the kids, and by the grace of God they were pretty well behaved. Our server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wines. The meal was well paced. Never felt rushed... never wondered when our food was coming. The food itself was well seasoned and delicious. I had the Mahi Mahi with grilled pineapple. Lots of flavor. My husband had the snapper and remarked at how fresh and perfectly cooked it was. The plated was also really lovely. Our 5 year old had the fish and chips. She was very happy. The other children shared side salads, french fries, and wild rice pilaf, while coloring with provided crayons. They were happy. I should mention there is a pretty decent kids menu that includes all the favorites, but our kids wanted sides! We all split a very generous portion of chocolate madness cake for dessert. Yum! We left very satisfied and relieved the environment, while refined and tasteful, was also family friendly. We will definitely return.
This is one our favorite places , living up here for 16+ years we have had a lot of time to enjoy the Northern part of Wisconsin. I would definitely come back as much as possible. It's a great place.
