We enjoyed our experience at the Washington Tavern. The service was great and the meal was wonderful. Cooked to perfection.
Before you go for dinner there go online and read the history of the white horse Tavern it’s fantastic and then once you get in there you’ll see that the flooring it’s amazing the planks are about a foot wide , food was great the service was great everything was wonderful but know all the history behind The White Horse
Seven nights in Newport - Just the best meal- sue a fab waiter Beef Wellington excellent!
The fact that this is the oldest restaurant in the United States makes it very special. The service was wonderful and very professional. The food was creative and well selected for variety. The atmosphere was very rustic and comfortable. A very pleasant experience.
Fabiola was fabulous!
One of the best ducks I’ve ever had and my wife’s scallops were fantastic. The service was also wonderful, on top of being in such a historic venue.
It was our 48 anniversary. Loved the ambience of the room and the history of the building. The waitress was very attentive, knowledgeable and funny. She made our experience special. The food was excellent from crab cakes, beef Wellington, to the crème brûlée. We will definitely return on our next trip to Newport.
Thank you for a memorable anniversary.
Friend’s birthday celebration, eating on the lovely patio, excellent service and delicious food. Overall wonderful experience
We had a later dinner time but they were able to fit us in for an earlier time after our other plans were cancelled. The dining room is nice for good conversation, food was great as well as service.
Food was excellent. Our compliments to the chef. Service, ambience and noise level were also excellent. They did not rush the meal and service to get you out of there. We were able to eat at a nice slow pace so we could thoroughly enjoy the experience. The prices are a little on the high side but they deliver on quality as one would expect at these prices.
Food and drinks were delicious! Loved being in this historic space. Our server was great.
Can't wait for our next trip to Newport to dine here again!
Awesome place- easy to see why they boast of being the oldest Tavern in the United States
The building is nice but we had to sit outside , the menu is small and the portions were even smaller. The drinks were good and priced fairly. I would only go there for drinks.
Great food, service, and ambiance! My bf and I will definitely be back! Make sure to book reservations in advance!
Quite unique to be in a building that was originally built in the 1600’s. The service was great and the food even better.
Amazing history and the food was incredible. We went there on the last night of our vacation and it was by far the best meal we had in Newport. The service was outstanding as well. I give it my highest recommendation.
Everything was wonderful - especially the lobster Mac n Cheese. Pork belly appetizer was also excellent.
White Horse is one of our favorite restaurants of all time. Love the history, ambiance, service and food! Keith, our server, is professional and fun. He is amazing! Excellent food, drinks and service. An experience not to be missed!
Excellent great food and nothing can beat that venue for history
I guess everyone has to dine here at some point because of the building’s historical significance—
Overall the menu covers each of the food groups with one menu dish- beef , seafood , poultry, pork — some classic preparations ( Beef Wellington )-
The food probably won’t disappoint but also won’t wow you —
Our dinner at the White Horse Tavern was one of the best in Newport. The historical ambience of the restaurant was enjoyable and a written description was provided. Our waitress was personable and the service was very good. The restaurant was not overly noisy. I ordered the duck breast and it was prepared very nicely, not over done. We did not specify outdoor dining and I infer that if you want outdoor dining it must be requested. We were happy with our indoor corner table by a window.
Wonderful ambience, service, and food. Overall a great dining experience.
Tim was awesome! food great! Best old fashion ever!
What a great place to experience Newports history. You can almost hear the pirates talking. Fun and energetic staff and delicious food. Great way to spend the evening.
The food was absolutely amazing as well as the ambiance.
Just expected more
We came to Newport and were able to get a reservation for that same night. Our server was excellent and gave us some tips for our trip.
Our meals were very good. The lobster Mac and Cheese was very rich and delicious. Salads were good. Crab cake were awesome. We were too full for dessert. The place has a nice atmosphere. Love the decor.
Amazing food in a quaint, historic atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Great date night spot.
I am happy to see that you enjoyed your date night. I hope you will join us again soon! My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
We had a wonderful dinner here celebrating 20th Wedding Anniversary… Fantastic food, service, and ambience!
Dawn, Thank you for choosing the Tavern to spend your anniversary at, I am happy you had a fantastic night! My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
It was unfortunate to see a restaurant I have loved for years have so many consistency issues with food. One dish the sides were salty to the point of not being edible and another dish multiple aspects of the dish were burnt. The service wasn’t fantastic either and apparently some rooms do not have AC. I have a lot of patience with restaurants given a lot of circumstances but I’ll be waiting awhile before I dine here again.
The food was fantastic, the place is super historic, but the staff was not overly impressive.
Few places offer pork chops, so that’s our favorite thing to order here. They are always exceptional. Shaved Brussels-sprouts made a delicious appetizer, and my wife always has the duck-egg appetizer and loves it. Our guest had the Beef Wellington and thoroughly enjoyed it.
ShutterBug, Our Pork Chop is a favorite amongst guests and the staff, I am glad you enjoyed your visit to the Tavern! My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
Good was great. Service was great. Will definitely go back.
Such a nice evening in a historic place! The duck was wonderful! And the service was wonderful. A little pricey for us but it’s wonderful for a special occasion.
Thank you for dining with us Glenda! I am glad you had a great evening! My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
Food, service and ambiance was excellent.
Our server was excellent and the hostess was a pro - even though this was clearly a busy evening for them. The outside patio was lovely and quiet. Our charcuterie board had a chunk of fatty prosciutto which was just not very appetizing. The lobster mac and cheese had plenty of lobster but the mac and cheese component was a distant afterthought it seems. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his catch of the day and our drinks and bread were perfect.
Thank you for joining us at the Tavern Jessica, I can bring the prosciutto and the Mac and Cheese mentions back to our Executive Chef so we are able to make adjustments as necessary. I hope you will join us again soon. My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
We were visiting Newport on a family trip. The food was incredible and to eat in the oldest operating restaurant in the US was super fun! It’s such a unique place - highly recommend it!
Food was delicious. We loved the history of the restaurant!
It was a magical experience in a 350+ year old setting. I felt very much like I stepped back in time to 17th century Newport. The Beef Wellington was outstanding, perfectly done, and delicious. She had the Steak Frites, also perfectly done. The wine selection had great range and options. I absolutely will go there again. Hopefully, many times.
Christopher, Thank you for the kind words, I hope you will join us again soon! My Best, Jarred LaPlante General Manager White Horse Tavern
