We are a country Gastropub owned by farmers. Our farm supplies the beef, lamb and pork and we source other ingredients from local producers where we can. Our small seasonal menu changes regularly reflecting what is available in our area. We pride ourselves on being very much a country pub, offering freshly prepared seasonal food and a warm welcome. We also love offering locally produced drinks, such as gins, rums, ales and wines, giving you the complete taste of Sussex.

    Friendly and helpful staff, prompt service, good food and great views in good weather. Easy parking. Chairs were somewhat hard and uncomfortable and could do with a wider menu choice.

    Firstly, I think Sunday roasts are the hardest for any restaurant to supply, as home cooked roasts are the best but sometimes it is nice to be taken out and treated :) This review is in order to not to slate the restaurant but advice on possible improvements. Hot plates, veg needs all the help it can get to retain their heat. Roast potatoes need to be Crisp and this means having a constant "tick over" of potatoes coming out of the oven in order to do this. Other veg like carrots, kale etc can all be kept "warming" until plating up but roasts should not be soft on the outside but, fluffy and crisp. I feel potatoes are not a costly item on the plate and should be seen by the restaurant as a very important part of a roast dinner. Its cheap so there should be at least 5 portions of crispy potatoes on a plate, not 3 soft ones that once could have come out of the oven crisp but have possibly been kept on the side, kept in a lower heat oven or microwaved to be hot again, or just warmed but gravy. We had beef and lamb as our meat choice (no pork option which i feel is a shame) and whilst the meat wasnt tough in any way tough, and wasnt fatty or sinewy but absolutely not a lot of flavour. This may have been a one of supply from the butcher/farmer but it was quite remarkable how little taste it actually had. Personally i feel the meat could benefit from having a herb/salt/pepper rub on the meat prior to cooking may be the answer. Gravy - i feel that gravy should be served in a gravy boat/pourer rather than it being put on the plate when dishing up, enabling people the choice of how much they have. I like gravy but i dont need much and only want it on my meat, whilst my husband likes a pond ! :) I would like to add the staff were all very nice

    A fabulous experience. The White Hart is stylish, welcoming and located in a magnificent setting with views across the glorious Sussex countryside. The food was excellent (it's run by farmers), with so many delicious, imaginative choices that we can't wait to go back. My beef chillicon carne was the best I've ever tasted. I was with my daughter and son-in-law; he's an experienced chef and he was raving about the meal - he loved the guinea fowl. We also loved the wine list with its accent on English wines, and the various tasting and flight options. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

    From start to finish (i.e booking to paying the bill) the White Hart was wonderful. I took my parents out for lunch and everything was gorgeous. Beautiful food, helpful and friendly staff, fabulous views. Also incredible wine list of British wines with very knowledgeable staff - you don't expect sommelier knowledge in a pub but that's what we got! Definitely would recommend!

    We ate outside on the terrace which we had booked as it was a lovely sunny day. The views are gorgeous. The food and service was extremely good. I would definitely recommend and we will definitely return.
