White Dog Cafe - Wayne Ratings and Reviews
While our recent experience with the overly pretentious staff was sufficiently bearable to warrant the chance to enjoy the tastefully whimsical decor and truly delightful food, it took us over a year to bother to show up there for a meal given our past mishaps; If you don't mind waiting up to a half an hour, even if you have a reservation, and if you don't mind not getting the room or table you requested, even if you called to reserve the location two weeks early in the hope that might make a difference, then I would be sure to order the soups and salads, which are particularly delicious. Your servers will also be pleasant and solicitous, though the hostess might want you to apologize on the way to the table for daring to mention the unprofessionalism of your reservation experience thus far.
Outstanding food, hearty fare with substantial servings. No fussy presentations. Waiters are attentive and personable. Unfortunately, this restaurant has an ongoing problem with honoring reservations on time. This is the 3rd time in 3 months that we arrived at our appointed time for a reservation and were told that we would have a 30-40 minute wait. The bar and entrance area are packed with others waiting for tables. The coat check is similarly over-crowded, so you're stuck holding your coat, crammed into a corner, waiting a half-hour or more for a table. Really detracts from the otherwise great atmosphere and consistently excellent food and waitstaff (once you're seated).
I have been to the White Dog many times and am never fully satisfied. It is expensive, the noise level is intense and the waiters are often condescending. It is a shame because this could be a really nice place with a little more customer care added.
Was surprised to be able to get a table for 4 on relatively short notice on a Saturday night. Restaurant was bustling but not too crowded. Unfortunately our waitress was not the most attentive, but she got the job done. We had to ask for bread, for example, and she never came back to ask how the meal was. If she had, I would have shared that the beef stew was completely underwhelming, especially for the price. Everything else was good, if not great, though.
Very limited launch menu. Still serving eggs or brunch menu on a Saturday at 2 o’clock. The menu is very avant-garde. If you have a meat and potatoes person with you, this is not a good choice.
I had pumpkin soup and a Cobb salad. The soup was extremely salty… And I like salt. The Cobb salad was just OK.
Always love it here. Feels special. I didn’t love the octopus appetizer- felt like very little octopus compared to sauce it was served in. The large oysters were not good- I had one that almost made me gag- and I LOVE raw oysters. It happens. Overall, will remain a favorite that we take visiting family to and for birthday celebrations.
We initially were taken to a table for 2 that was extremely cramped in a loud room with several families. I asked to be reseated and luckily they were able to accommodate my request. The second "location" was much better! Soft seats, decibel level much lower and mainly small groups. The food was excellent, service was excellent too, and we both enjoyed our beers. I did not enjoy my miniature after dinner pour of Port wine, not sure what the bartender/cafe has in mind as to what is a regular pour, but it was "thimble" sized IMO. A Port wine pour is generally 3-4 oz., this one fell way short of that mark, I will not order Port wine for an after dinner drink again. $11 for a pour from a $14 bottle is not acceptable. I will come back to the White Dog Cafe as I really enjoy the food and beer selection.
This lunch was the third meal at White Dog. First was brunch, then dinner. All three meals have been memorable. The food is good, the service attentive without being rushed, and the ambiance is delightful....how could you not like all those cute photos of man's best friend?
The Host desk was very nice and gave us a preferred spot. We loved everything and the staff was uber friendly and accommodating to everyone there. Lots of people were celebrating things and they give you special presentations for your birthday or anniversary I could see. The brunch menu is really great we always choose to go that timeframe when we go. They do have the best soup and it is always seasonably fashionable.
Awesome service and the food was great. The waiter was great; knowledgeable and very attentive. Most of all the food was awesome. My husband had steak and egg and I had an omelet with a side of sausage. The chicken sausage was the best. We can't wait to go back.
It took them forty-five minutes to seat us (with reservations). They seem to be emphasizing the bar. It was noisy, very noisy, rock music playing, everyone shouting over the music, and the food was mediocre at best. I used to love the atmosphere and the food. I wouldn’t recommend it at night. It was an awful experience.
