The thoughtful staff and warm ambience more than offset the crowds and tight quarters especially at the entrance on a busy Sunday brunch. The staff worked the crowd like magic, and we had a marvelous time.
This place is in a historic building that has been updated and wonderfully decorated. It’s a beautiful place with excellent farm to table food. Fresh ingredients and great drinks. I’d recommend it any day and to anyone!
It’s my third trip and it continues to impress !
Delicious food, eclectic atmosphere, great service, and delicious drinks - I will visit again.
The big deal here in this stair-laden former house (or houses) is the relentless use of canine imagery. Cute if that's your thing. Brunch food is what you'd get anywhere. Servers are friendly. Tables are small. Best bet looked like eating at the bar.
Our only gripe was that the tables are very close together (like ridiculously close). You are basically dining with strangers
I come to White Dog Café regularly and adore this place. I recommend this place for a friend's birthday lunch for a group lunch and was excited that they would finally get to try the place I really like. I had booked a party of 8 initially but one friend couldn't make it, so we told the front desk it's a party of 7. When we were sitted at our table, it was 3 tables put together which usually sits 6 people but they had but 1 more dining set on the couch side, which was very awkward positioning. I had asked if we could just add a chair on a side or be moved to another seating. I was caught off guard when I received very irritated glare and abrupt response of "no". Then they came back and told us it'll be hard to serve, which we understood. I couldn't understand how they gave us a table of 6 where it's seemingly very hard to fit 7 people and expected us to sit there. Anyhow, after they accommodated us by adding an extra chair, I thanked them but they walked away with unpleasant look. I felt bad because it completely crushed the good vibe and my friend group started off with very awkward and uncomfortable mood. We still had a good time, but I wish White Dog had handled the situation more professionally. I'd still come back, but unfortunately some of my friends objects the idea.
Great meal for my fiancée’s Birthday! The food and service was excellent, and they even gave him a hand written card saying Happy Birthday! Will definitely be back!
Inventive seasonal menu, mussels were best we have had. Food, service and ambiance were fabulous on our Friday night visit. Loved the dog themed decor. A fun restaurant! Can’t wait to try the offerings on their spring menu.
Great food as always! It was hard to hear at our table for 2 to sit next to a huge table in the bottom floor dining area, but we still enjoyed.
This restaurant was recommended by some good friends. Great location and easy to get to by mass transit. Presentation of the food was beautiful!
Beat salad was great the added grilled chicken should lento have been served it was so over cooked and dried out. Rest of meal was good.
unique menu, great food & great service
Our server Evan was a doll as are most of the White Dog servers.
We had their spicy fried chicken sandwich, truffle fries, deviled eggs, and butter squash soup. All of our dishes were tasty and beautifully presented. The only sour note was the lack of charm from hostesses and bartender. Brunch is fun they should try to smile.
Wonderful time as usual that had everything to do with White Dog Cafe. The only thing that dampened my time here (by quite a lot, as I wasn’t able to enjoy myself as much as I would have liked to) was the insane amount of noise coming from one table. I noticed that all the other customers were also annoyed, and everyone seemed to be in a hurry to eat as fast as possible so they could get away from the noisy table.
Always love White Dog. Lots of tasty choices on the menu, something for everyone, and there is a friendly, buzzy vibe that I enjoy.
Great place, drinks, food, server. Hope to return soon
Came here for the first time and had a wonderful time. The hosts were hospitable, the environment was adorable and lovely. Our server was exceptional, the food was so good, and we had a great time. No complaints!
Coming here again tomorrow for lunch! 😉
Really enjoyed our dinner at the White Dog Cafe. Decor is so interesting - every room different with the common thread being dog artwork, which is very fun. We had a round table on the porch. Great. Food was very good all around. My mahi-mahi was excellent, as was the mushroom gratin (side dish). Shared hummus was yummy. My only criticism was we were subtly made to feel that we were being kicked out. We were with friends we hadn't seen in a long while and were (admittedly) lingering while we caught up. Our room emptied out and we got a vibe from our server that it was time to go, even though we were still drinking our coffee. Not good. Other than that, it was a great night and I think we'll go back, maybe check out one of the other very cool rooms.
Best brunch in the city! The restaurant is beautiful with tons of natural light and fun decor, the food was incredible, and they have a brunch special of $14 bottomless mimosas, Bloody Mary’s, greyhounds or sangrias. Definitely coming back soon.
Nice options, service. We had a daily special which one was prepared as described and the other was not. So it was a little weird. Normally very reliable.
Diverse menu. Very allergy/nutrition aware. For any dog lover the ambience is awesome.
Fun colorful venue
Love the table settings at White Dog! Super nice environment overall.
The food at White Dog is creative and tasty. The service depends totally on the kitchen, which has its ups and downs. When you have a reservation on Open Table the restaurant should not bury you at a small uncomfortable table that requires walking many steps. The food is good, management is at best fair. They are used to dealing with students not customers who look at the entire experience.
Our favorite go-to spot in Philly. I met my husband here at the bar. Since then we've had our engagement dinner, some anniversaries, quiet business meetings, and lots of loud fun with friends. The restaurant has lots of different rooms with different themes and vibes so there's something for everyone. The food never disappoints.
Although the ambiance and service were very good, we found the food to be just OK.
Took my girlfriend out for her birthday.
Great for fitting in meal before Ivy League Basketball games at the Palestra. Everything a la carte so can get expensive. Wine list also on the high side. But food was delicious. Pork tenderloin was excellent as were the hamburgers & the vegetarian sweet potato enchilada. They have a separate vegetarian menu so be sure to ask if needed. Recommend reservations as it gets quite crowded (bar 3 deep) esp before big games. Excellent service & fun atmosphere.
I’m not vegetarian, but I had an all veggie meal that was amazing. Very rare to find seared cauliflower steak on a menu and it was incredible.
We enjoyed our lunch at the White Dog. The soups were wonderful and the lunch offerings were varied and interesting. I was especially delighted that the bartender made my somewhat unusual cocktail request -- a painkiller -- with no problem. Oh and we love the apple pie bread pudding. A place that is thoughtful about food and caring of its guests!
Beautiful place, very attentive service, delicious food.
First time there, was not disappointed. Loved the rooms and great food.
very nice place. few too many dogs. on the edge of kitsch.
What a nice little gem! Food and service were excellent and the atmosphere was so nice. And the décor, so interesting. We loved it and look forward to another visit.
Restaurant was interesting, but a little snobby for those who don't embrace the entirety of farm to table dining. We found the choices a little limiting and our initial seating right near the work station of the servers to be annoying, especially when there were many other tables available on a low key Sunday evening. The waitress actually was annoyed when we asked to be placed in a less busy area, then put us in a dark corner. It felt like a spiteful maven her part. The waiter had marbles in his mouth and we could barely understand him. Food was good, but my son said it best when he said probably not a restaurant he would return to. We initially went for the dog decor, which was cool .
A great find in a beautiful old Philly townhouse. All the food we had was excellent from the cauliflower steaks to the sea scallops special. Don't skip desert either. Some of the dishes are a little pricey, but the quality and creativity is there with every dish.
We had a lovely time at White Dog. The staff was very accommodating with our party of 3, including a rambunctious 8 month old. We were seated in the back room in a big booth. The energy was great. The mushroom soup was sublime and they have an awesome bottomless brunch cocktail deal which was a nice surprise. We will definitely return to this location.
Steak was good not great for $51.00.
The staff at White Dog are very kind. My friends from out of town were visiting and they did not pester us as we lingered over our drinks at the end of the meal. We sat down later in the evening so we knew we were not holding up other patrons waiting to dine. It almost goes without saying that White Dog has excellent food; this time I wanted to acknowledge their service.
We have been to this restaurant 2x before, but there seemed to be major problems this time. The seating was uncomfortable and cold. The food/menu seems to have slipped also. The hostess did her best to seat us as close to our reservation as possible (although they seem to have overbooked) and our server was good.
