White Dog Cafe - University City

A couple of friends and I went to White Dog Cafe for bottomless mimosas for my birthday. The food was super tasty & our waiter Jeff was really knowledgeable and pleasant.
I love having Sunday brunch here!
I enjoyed brunch and the quality of ingredients. Not enough comfort vegetarian options for me. Everyone enjoyed their meal at the tableS
We really like White Dog. That said, it's actually really poorly managed. This visit, we had an excellent server, attentive etc. But the management is horrendous. This was for brunch, and the restaurant has 11 different rooms, that said, to no apparent reason they had giant tables with children in seemingly every space. A couple asked to be moved and we're seated next to us instead of beside the table with 5 under 5. The "hostess" was rude to them, we spoke up in support of their position and she told us that we were being discriminatory to suggest that there might be a better way to keep everyone happy. In short, she should be fired. Her attitude was absolutely unacceptable, and I would imagine that she has cost you more than just theirs and our repeat business. It's a shame, great food, fun menu and an otherwise great staff undermined by a bitter woman who doesn't care at all about the business. I would as a business owner absolutely have a very hard time writing her a check.
Our servers name was Chris and he was amazing! To start off he noticed we had a 3 year old with us and he immediately got her a cup with a lid and then offered to put her food in right away. So her food came out before we even ordered which was so nice! Chris seriously went above and beyond for all of us! Not only was the food absolutely amazing but the environment is so amazing as well. A really chill vibe in there and the building was amazing. If you are in the city you HAVE to eat there. You will not be disappointed and ask for Chris!
Our server, Tara, was so nice. She made excellent did/drink recommendations. She also told us a little history about the restaurant!! The food was delicious!
Great service and menu options.
The service was fantastic and the breakfast was the best breakfast I’ve had in a long time. I recommend the churro waffles, they are phenomenal.
We had a very nice breakfast in their new solarium downstairs with large windows that open towards the back of the restaurant. It's very bright and friendly. The food was delicious and we spent extra time there talking with no rush to leave.
Great place for dinner - a real treat. Looking forward to visiting again next time I’m in Philadelphia
Love this place. Great food, great atmosphere. Staff did a good job with our party of 7. Everyone enjoyed it per usual. Thanks!
We enjoyed the visit to White Dog Café. There were three of us and all enjoyed our food. It was easy to talk. The location is in the middle of U Penn. We took a LIFT to get to the restaurant and then walked back to our daughter's apartment.
It's a great place, food organic, local farmed, tasts great.
The food, device and ambiance is consistently excellent👍.
Mediocre for sure. Will not be back
One of our favorites in Philadelphia. Funky, fun and great food. Their famous deviled eggs are always a treat.
White Dog Cafe is awesome! I was so delighted by all of it. It's awesome!
We reserved for brunch here and was greeted and seated quickly. We all loved the decor, so cute with all the dog pictures.
I loved the fact that they're farm to table. Our server was pleasant and tentative. We like that he asked if anyone had any food allergies which means they really care about their patrons.
I have to say the menu was quite eclectic but nonetheless there's something for everyone. I ordered the pork belly benedict and it was really good. I would most definitely go back again.
Amazing brunch !!! Quiet out door scenery! Highly recommend
The space is very nice. They play soft music and you can comfortably talk to your dinner mates. Service was great and the food was very good. One of the best options in University City.
Best sleeper restaurant in University City and all of Philadelphia. Fresh food, great service, easy parking, and healthy choices for all.
Wonderful food, beautiful restaurant, always a good time
Everything was delicious & more than decent sized potions. Service was excellent
amazing casual brunch
I think the portions are too small. Just a bit ordinary. Staff were pleasant and helpful.
This restaurant has been a mainstay of UPenn faculty dinners for many years. Unfortunately, however, it has now been repurposed as a theme restaurant for people who like cutesy sculptures of small dogs, but don't know or care much about food. My steak was a bad cut, badly cooked, served up at an inflated, premium price. The red wine being promoted by the restaurant was unpleasantly vegetal, and my first bottle had been ruined by interaction with the cork. The only thing that at all redeemed this abysmal restaurant was a very nice waitress who was making every effort to do her job well. Sorry, but this place is a shambles. I will certainly avoid it like the plague in the future.
Lovely lunch. Absolutely delicious. The waitress was very very nice. Great decor. HUGE THUMBS UP.
Unfortunately our lunch today was a disappointment. We had 1230 reservations, were seated quickly, server greeted us quickly, took order, brought water -- eventually bread--- then nothing. We waited over 50 minutes for our meal. (Salad, soup and taco)
Once received, it was obviously hastily prepared - my wedge salad ($24) was nothing more than a chunk of lettuce with a few radishes and fried shrimp. My partner received the wrong soup and when we asked for the correct order, the runner was clearly confused. This was a business meeting. Our server was non-chalant about the delay in serving and offered us extra bread, " to hold us over....".
The atmosphere was wonderful.
Excellent food and service in U Penn campus. We were seated outside porch (facing a street but not busy and pleasant) they had $35 dinner menu (3 courses) for Dinner Day week so we ordered Branzinino and Steak Frits, both nice. We were so full so bright back half of our food. I think this is one of the best value place in the area.
My favorite!! I always feel The White Dog does food perfectly. Everything just tastes as if has thought behind it and was made with love. The staff are so knowledgeable about the ingredients- you can tell they actually take pride in serving fresh, local, dignity food:). The kung pao cauliflower may have been the vest thing i’ve ever eaten! I also make sure to visit every fall for their phenomenal butternut squash soup. The carrot bisque is also amazing. Never been disappointed here.
Great service. Great food. Outstanding ambiance. Highly recommend.
This is a wonderful and unique spot in the middle of University City. There is nothing like it anywhere in the city and it is a real treat for all. If you are vegan, vegetarian, or just a diner that loves unique recipes with or with out meat or fish, you will love White Dog!
I wsent for University Days promo deal for $35. The choices were good but I specifically asked server if the top sirloin entree was tender. He said it was and recommended it. Unfortunately, it was to the contrary. The empanadas appetizer was very good ans was the chocolate cake desert.
There was an odd odor in the dining room where we were seated. My food was under seasoned and underwhelming.
Great food and service as always.
Great place, beautiful art and decor, fabulous menu and cocktails. I went two nights in a row while in Philly for work.
3 of us, ordered a couple apps each and drinks. We had the beef empenada, mac and cheese with pulled pork, melon salad, cheese plate. All were amazing, especially the mac and cheese/pork, really liked the cheese plate. We had the blueberry cobbler, was very good. We really enjoyed our visit !!
I've loved this place every time I've been except last night. I had a reservation for 9:30, which j understand is late, but it was an option so I figured it would be fine. I was called 3 minutes before where I was told the kitchen closes at 9:30 so I had to order immediately. My date and I ordered and our food arrived cold and underdone. It was BAD but it wasn't worth it.
Food was exquisite. The grain salad that came with bronzino was so tasty that it could have been a meal in itself. Bottles of wine 1/2 priced on Monday’s is a nice feature. And the chocolate cake had such a smooth tasty icing. Yum.
