The reviews didn’t lie. This place is outstanding. The menu is really innovative and everybody working there grooves on what they’re making and making it a great experience. Would go back in heartbeat.
Food, service and atmosphere were great. It did take 30 minutes longer to be seated than our reservation stated due to a large party before us, and the delay likely lost the restaurant a star. That said, I would still recommend and had a wonderful dinner overall.
Our first visit to White Bull was excellent. Very friendly staff. The locally sourced ingredients menu was eclectic and contain many great options for appetizers and entrees. Our server Alexandra was excellent in describing the choices to us in detail. We originally sat at an outdoor table but had to move inside when the rains started. Both the bartenders and Alexandra were great in accommodating the move and maintaining a great level of service despite our change of location. Two suggestions are some noise abatement to get the sound level down and to add some wines less than the $11-$12 range by the glass ($46+ for bottles). I think you would sell more if there were lower priced options.
Food was overall very good - the stracciatella (and all the toast dishes for that matter) were highlights. The pastas and the short rib mole were decent. Service was lacking.
At this price point, free bread would be nice. You really need to deliver for 125+ for 2 people. No options for kids, cocktail & chicken were awesome. Lots of potential, though Leon’s and Iberian Pig much better value, currently.
We had a great experience with the wait staff. They were superb. The food missed the mark. Ribs with mole were $64 and had so much fat it was upsetting. Literally over half the dish was fat. Meaning for $64 we got about 12 bites of meat. And they were stingy with the mole.
The fatback was about the size of a candy bar. They billed it will peas and beans. They should have said a pea and a bean. Honestly can you give me a few beans for my money ?
We also had beets and carrots. Flavor was good and yet again they should have said beet and carrots. There was 1 beet and 2 carrots for almost $20.
I love fine dining. I love 1 and 2 Star Michelin restaurants. Eugene is one of my favorites in Atlanta. I don’t mind the money but don’t give fat and bean
Food was great, especially the pastas. Desserts were great too, the tahini pot de creme was my favorite. Alexandra did a great job explaining the concept to us first timers, excellent service. Cocktails and booze on point. Great addition to an already awesome Decatur food scene.
An excellent addition to the already many high-quality restaurant options in Decatur. Chef provides innovative and changing menu options that seldom disappoint.
Incredibly personalized and thoughtful service, amazing home made pastas and great bar. New favorite restaurant in town!
Great food. Farm to table with freshest ingredients. Presentation is beautiful. All plates are thoughtfully prepared and range from simple to very unique. A must try in decatur. Service is also excellent, especially for a new restaurant.
This is a great farm to table spot - loved it! We sat outside and were able to enjoy live music in the square. The food was comprised of unique ingredients to create delicious dishes. We split two pasta dishes - menu is always changing, so I'll spare you the details, a salad and dessert - the food was great (although the olive cake was just ok, but still great presentation). Highly recommend this spot - give it a try!
Food was fantastic! Ambiance and décor were nice. Server was knowledgeable and attentive.
The food was good for brunch, but not amazing. This may not be their specialty so I will reserve judgement until I have dinner there. The place was very cute and drinks were good. My polenta was the best, the other meals ordered in our group were just so-so.
I have been dying to try White Bull since I heard it was opening and I’m a huge Hemingway fan. Perhaps my high hopes influenced the disappointment in the actual experience. The hostess seemed overwhelmed. We had an 8:45 reservation and it took about 15-20 minutes to get seated and once we were and had ordered it took another 45 minutes to get our food. When we did get our plates mine was lukewarm and my boyfriend’s pork belly was cold. I ordered the bolognese and it was rather tasteless and difficult to distinguish what actually made it a sauce versus ground meat on top of pasta. The pork belly was actually quite interesting in terms of its flavors and I think it would have been wonderful if it hadn’t been cold. I really want to love this spot and hope our visit was an off night for them. I will probably try it again but definitely at a different time in the evening.
Food was great. Noisy but not terrible. Service was so so. Our final dish took over 45 minutes to come out from the kitchen. No offer of a drink on the house or quick appetizer was disappointing.
Lovely decor. Impeccable service as in cleaning off the crumbs on the table and replacing utensils in between servings. That was a nice touch.
Food was up and down.
First the up:
My husband's baked chicken was delicious in texture and flavor and a generous sized serving. The Vidalia onions served with it were absolutely yummy in texture and flavor. He commented it was some of the best baked chicken he has had and he is a certified chicken lover.
Now the down:
My husband's baked chicken was served with skimpy accompaniments. The broccoli was barely one head cut into small pieces. There was no starch served with the meal.
I had the trout. It was tasty and flavorful with an interesting yogurt sauce that complimented it well. But that is where it ends. The portion size was as expected for an upscale restaurant meaning not enough for me. Although I am not a large woman (size 4) , I do eat a lot of what I eat. I left hungry literally. The plate did not have a starch. There were only tiny bits of kale and a few, very few, mushrooms. That's it.
The bread has to be purchased separately. However, It is not worth it to me. It is not well leavened so it isn't light and fluffy bread by any means. Think of one of those extra large thick cookies and you can understand the size and thickness of it.
It has lots of flavor though. And maybe you'll like your bread that way. I'm picky about eating too much bread, so I only eat it when it's really good to me.
Went for brunch. Everything made from scratch. Loved the crumpet with homemade butter and strawberry jam. Also had pasta made from grain milled in house. Definitely going back!
The food at White Bull was terrific. Our
waitperson, Jasmine, was knowledgeable
and very helpful with understanding the
menu and making suggestions. I will
return and will recommend it to friends.
A very good addition to the dining options
Very good food, but portions were on the smaller side though. The salad was a root variety and too many radishes. I feel more greens would be better. Bothered us to watch someone precisely setting a table. This poor person spent at least 5 minutes making sure the place settings were exactly right. It was strange to observe this practice. Made us uncomfortable for the employee. Also, there was one Chardonnay by the glass at $16 per glass. Probably won’t return because that’s important choice to us.
I enjoyed my meal at The White Bull but wish some of the dishes had more flavor and a bit of refinement.
The Shrimp with Tahini was a gloppy unfocused plate - there could have been more shrimp and the shrimp were undercooked. Either server them ceviche style or cook them until at least a little firm. The Chicken Livers were good but needed more flavor. That is the trick with liver. It needed more salt and some brandy. The raw sliced mushrooms on the top were a waste and added no flavor to the dish.
The Gnocchi were good served with an unusual type of broccoli and cooked spinach - quite yummy.
The Pork Bolognese with home made pasta was light and creamy in taste but not texture. It was not a creamy sauce but the blend of flavors was really well composed.
One of the stars of the evening was the Olive Oil Cake with Black Pepper Ice Cream - superb!
The room gets loud quickly because it is all hard surfaces. They need a tall padded banquette instead of the throw pillows and some sound cushions in the ceiling. The noise was compounded by a loud baby - for the life of me I don't know why people inflict their loud (too young to be in a restaurant) children on a restaurant of diners paying upwards of $60 each for dinner and drinks.
Food was amazing. The service was outstanding and the location is perfect. Love everything about this place
Menu with locally produced items, Great food, and service!
The White Bull was a pleasant surprise. The decor and ambiance are charming and the food, all locally sourced, was top flight. Be sure to spring for the homemade bread and butter, a highlight of the menu. It was outstanding! The menu changes regularly but we hope they come up with a few standard dishes that make less experimental diners more eager to return. My root salad and ricotta gnocchi with fresh peas was amazing while my husband’s NY strip with mole sauce, cabbage and crispy kale was also a hit. The White Bull is a lovely addition to Decatur Square and we look forward to returning.
Extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff! Knew everything about the source of ingredients and how they were created. Just a wonderful experience overall!
We ate early and sat outside. Food was exceptionally fresh and tasty! Will go back for sure.
Our server was just absent most of the meal, which was okay. We ordered a bottle of wine and she didn’t fill our glasses once without us asking. She was very loud and pretty brash. She was talking to the table next to us about the restaurant she worked at last and was saying rude things about it. It was pretty tacky, honestly.
Food was interesting and well prepared. Service was subpar: 1. Ordered a drink not on drink menu and was informed “bartender would be asked” if he would accommodate request (which simply involved adding an existing ingredient to a martini); 2. Menu is creative but has many unique items not necessarily known to diners. No effort was made to explain menu, make suggestions, etc., which would have been helpful. 3. Appetizers weren’t served at the same time leaving my companion to watch me eat most of mine before hers arrived. When asked, the waitress casually stated that courses are served as they are ready. This is clearly unacceptable, particularly for two salads that require little coordination by the kitchen. I can’t imagine that the front of house condones such service. I’ll likely give this place another chance, as I think they may be working out the kinks, having opened only 6 weeks ago.
Had a great time sitting at the bar and spending time with the great bartenders. Food is amazing, fresh and local. Overall a thoughtful menu all around.
This was the best meal I’ve had in a while - You could truly taste how fresh and perfectly prepared each dish was! The service was very attentive and personable. We will definitely return!
Great all around experience!
We loved everything we ate! The food was so delicious! It was beautifully presented and the flavors complimented each other perfectly! Hope this place sticks around!
An excellent server is needed to explain the many variances of the day. Ours, Alexandra, was great. The food was superb. My soft shell crab was served over spaghetti that had buttery ramps. The lightly onion pasta was perfect with the delicately prepared crab. My wifes pasta was a simple and lovely. The roots salad was a perfect starter. Thank you "White Bull" for coming to Decatur.
Very interesting menu. The pork was to die for. Alexandra was first class as our server. Will come. Just a tad too loud for a 72 year old.
Great new spot. Wait staff very helpful with unique farm to table menu. Share plates great food and fun !
Our third visit to the White Bull. The chicken entree was off the charts and the pasta with pork neck was outstanding. As good as anything in Decatur. Reasonable corkage but wine list is excellent.
Excellent dinner experience. Our table was ready when we arrived so we sat immediately. Server was was to approach and take drink orders. We asked her many questions about the dishes since we had not heard of many of the types of pasta that were being offered. She answered all with great enthusiasm.
We ordered the broccoli & shrimp dish as an appetizer which was great. The broccoli was roasted & crispy. For entrees, we had the black spaghetti with red shrimp and the duck ragu with a pasta similar to rigatoni. Both were outstanding! I was a little disappointed that they only offered two desserts and neither of which were appealing to us.
Overall, great atmosphere, service & food. I would definitely recommend and would return to try more dishes.
Amazing food. Great service. Cool vibe.
Great service. Really good food. Adventurous menu. Definitely coming back.
