White Birch works with the following local purveyors:
Ashley’s Turkey Farm
Let it Grow Farms
Orchard View Lavender Farm
Valley Shepherd Creamery
White Birch is a BYO restaurant
Our first trip. Our GPS somehow had us go to a residential neighborhood, so by the time we figured out it was wrong (beware:Maps connected to OT reservation!), we were 15 minutes late. We were kept waiting an additional 25 minutes, but to be fair, we called when we noticed but came late.
Nicely decorated, having been in the restaurant business in a past life, it was obvious there’s some restaurant knowledge ‘in the house’.
The 3 of each ordered apps. Beet salad with Buratta, Wild Mushroom Raviolo, and Pork Belly. All excellent.
For entrees, duck breast (nicely prepared; good sauce) and signature dish chicken Wellington (excellent combinations of flavor;nice presentation).
For dessert we shared the gingerbread and chocolate desserts. Pastry chef on premises made delicious focaccia served sparingly with appetizers and these desserts. Desserts were very good, but not on the level of our first two courses.
BYOB works for us! A couple of great wines from our cellar!
A few comments:
1. This far west in New Jersey it is hard to find highly professional wait service. Everyone was polite, generally on top of their job, but not anywhere near what you find in NYC (or closer to, like Montclair).
2. They ran out of one entree when we were ordering and one dessert. This needs to be fixed.
3. The menu is a bit limited. Farm to table, I understand. But a few more specials would make sense.
4. High ceilings with wood floors. Very loud;hard to hear for those with normal hearing.
5. NYC prices, for those who care. Also is a lot of finesse and care in the cuisine.
All in all, for 10/2018 start, this place is for real. I hope we can get a table next time we go! Congratulations to the chef and owner!!
Disappointed overall. Food creativity is very good and flavorful. However, neither our apps or main courses arrived as hot as they should have. Long delay betw app and main, for which wait staff apologized and provided another app on the house. Atmosphere somewhat loud and decor does not match that of a restaurant with such a creative menu and high prices. If it wants to be an upscale place, it should decorate accordingly and carry itself on a more exclusive scale. Food was tasty and imaginative but I can see why so many reviews were disappointing. Hopefully can work out the kinks. Maybe will try again in six months.
This was our 2nd time dining here. Service is outstanding and it is a lovely restaurant for a quiet dinner. If you like unusual menu choices, you may love this place. I find the menu choices somewhat limited for my taste and it is VERY expensive for what you are getting.
Went to the Saturday brunch to celebrat a friend's birthday. Everything was as fabulous as dinner had been a few weeks before! The food is creative, fresh and delicious. Our server, Casey, was friendly, knowledgeable and very attentive. Can't wait to return.
Very kind stuff. Very good food!
Great food great service. Lighting was slightly abrasive in certain areas. But overall very pleasant. Very noisy. And finding a parking was horrible. :) remember to bring your own wine!:)
The service and food were great but the acoustics were terrible! Very noisy, hard to hear the server or our guests! Manager needs to be made aware
So many great choices on the menu, it was difficult to choose. Everything was very good with the sole exception of the red snapper entree which I thought was overcooked. Service was excellent - our server knew every detail of every dish on the menu and was attentive without being intrusive. One note: This is a LOUD restaurant on a busy Saturday night.
We just love this place! The food, staff and atmosphere make for a great evening. It's consistently great. Always look forward to seeing what Chef Sam will do next!
Food was delicious. Good service.will be back.
This is our second time dining at White Birch. We both had the lobster bisque which was creamy and spicy with a large chunk of lobster… So good. I had their famous cauliflower “steak” and it was light, bright, with the right mixture of sweet and acid. My husband had a salad he also enjoyed. As entrées he had the steak combo: 6 ounce steak which was regular and a braised short rib that was phenomenally tender and warmly spiced. I had the seared tuna with mushrooms in a earthy broth. It was ok but I guess I was expecting something different. Finally, we shared a chocolate and cherry cake creation with the yummiest and lightest cherry cream topping. I don’t even like cherry and this cake won me over.
There was a very talented musician playing but at times it got loud...we were in the same room as the performer. The waiter actually asked for the volume to be turned down. The lighting was improved by the window tables(too bright before) but the interior tables’ lighting is still bright and takes away from the ambiance.
Everything was fabulous! The food & service. The menu was a little hard, didn't know really what we we're ordering, but, food was really, really great!! Place was very noisy, the really need to do something about the sound, they need a sound absorbing panels desperately.
The food was absolutely outstanding. There were 7 of us and we all ordered different apps, sides, entrees and desserts and there was not one thing that we didn't love.
We had a 7:30 reservation on a Friday night and out table was waiting for us. All guests had arrived by 7:40 (at the latest) and we ordered fairly soon after that. Our entrees did not arrive until 9:30 pm. It wasn't the end of the world and we were drinking and socializing but that is a really really long ticket time. The manager came over and apologized and comped two of our desserts which was OK - not overly generous but we were fine.
We thought the price was reasonable (the total worked out to about $60 per person which included tip). I would come back again because I think it's a beautiful restaurant and the food makes it completely worth it. Honestly (and I don't say this often) I give the food a 10.
The one thing they need to work on is ticket times - if I had been with my husband he would have flipped out waiting that long for dinner - fortunately I was with my friends!
Service was very good as well as mussels appetizer and soup
Dinner entrees did not come all at same time and 2 duck entrees were brought instead of one
when corrected the one remaining was more medium than rare
Red snapper was somewhat dry and needed more lime sauce
restaurant was very loud
Every course was delicious! Will definitely return!
the lobster bisque was salty but the duck breast was perfectly cooked.
Casey did a great job explaining each dish which made it easy to understand what we wanted to order. Food came out promptly. Overall great service.
Nicholas our waiter was excellent. He made our dining experience very enjoyable. The food and its preparation were top notch. We have dined at White Birch before and are always satisfied. White Birch is highly recommended for any occasion. It was a pleasure to have martini glasses provided.
Went for the special tasting menu and was not disappointed. White Birch has quickly become our favorite go to restaurant. I enjoy trying the new items on the menu and the fact that it's a BYOB is the added icing on the cake! Till next time.
The four course Valentine Tasting menu was great! That short rib agnolotti, wow!! Loved the arancini, tuna tartar and lemon tart as well! Everything cooked to perfection with great service. There was a pretty cool pan drum playing to boot!
Truly enjoyed our dinners rice balls were outstanding. Our server Casey was awesome knew menu very attentive not only to us but notice her checking empty tables to ensure that they were perfect for next person. Great new place for long valley area. Liked it so much going back to check out the standard menu
Excellent food, service was slow but to be expected on Valentines Day...
What a wonderful experience to spend Valentine’s Day here. The staff and food were excellent. Our waiter treated us like we were the only ones there even though the restaurant was completely full. His excitement over the menu items made it hard for me to decide! I was torn between the sweetbreads and or the beet salad, and even going for the beet salad which was excellent. It was a four course dinner the delighted the senses. Thank you to the chef/owner for a wonderful meal and the sweetest parting gift...a White Birch apron!!
It was a great experience, fresh farm to table creative dishes, awesome modern minimalistic decoration and outstanding service. We will be back for sure!
So happy to have this new restaurant nearby. Exceeded expectations in every way.
I've already started referring people to White Birch. The service and atmosphere was phenomenal.
The staff was terrific. Some of the best and most personable I've experienced in a while. The food was very good especially the desserts. Temperatures on dishes could have been better adjusted. Beet salad was too cold and my duck dish was not hot enough. Bread service was not offered. I noticed other tables receiving so wasn't sure if you had to ask for it. We didn't need it since we ordered the amazing goat cheese toasts. Design wise we felt the lighting could have been warmer/dimmer and dining room needed a bit of color. The exterior needs greenery and warmer light as well. Overall; a very good experience. We will definitely be back. We know it's new and for being open such a short time they are definitely firing on all cylinders. It was also lovely to meet the chef-owner Sam who was kind and gracious with his time.
Meal was wonderful. Our table was near the door so it was cold.
This was our first dining experience at the White Birch. The interior is painted in soft gray and provides a very calm feeling when walking in the door. We were a party of four and each of us ordered different first, second and third courses. Each dish was prepared with the freshest of ingredients and the presentation was creative. The server was extremely knowledgeable about the preparation of the food and was attentive in pouring our wine but not intrusive. I can't wait to go back!
The food and service were very good. The dining areas are a bit stark. They lack warmth. It is a limited menu which is fine, but the two fish entrees both had meat ( ham and bacon) in them. There really was only a gnocchi dish for non-meat eaters. Hopefully, that might change in the future and we would be willing to give it another try. For now, we won't be returning.
No one was there in a Tuesday night, very surprised. It was our second time there. Casey our waitress was excellent, very personable. The four of us shared the ravioli, hurrays beet salad, goat cheese toast, all excellent!
Entrees were the chicken Wellington, duck & gnocci, and rolled up fish with proscuitto. All were excellent, presentation was amazing, came out of the kitchen hot. For dessert we had the coconut rice pudding, sticky gingerbread cake & lemon curd & olive oil cake. All suitable for the front page of a magazine and worth a five star rating! We will be going back to this BYOB restaurant, be warned it’s quite expensive though, you get what you pay for though.
White Birch consistently provides and excellent dining experience. The food and service are top notch! The adjustment in the lighting from the initial opening has also truly enhanced the atmosphere. The quality and care put into every meal is evident in each bite. Whether it's brunch or dinner you'll have an amazing meal! There are great options for a variety of dietary restrictions as well.
We live in town and were happy to hear that a farm to table restaurant was moving in. They did not disappoint! From the appetizers (Hamachi and Ravoili) to Dinner (Duck & Pork Shank) the presentation and taste were excellent - finished the night with some Monkey Bread that was worth the calories. Make sure you get lots of the home made potato focaccia bread, its crispy on the outside and soft on the inside! Make sure you bring your own wine or spirits as they are BYOB
Farm to table delicious food and friendly knowledgable service . Unique dishes and flavors .
Food was delicious! Servers were kind and caring.
Unfortunately, however, our table was close to the door and a little uncomfortable on a cold winter night.
Just love atmosphere and menu. He does a beautiful presentation regardless of what your ordering and staff couldn’t be friendlier
Love the menu and the quality of the food. You can definitely tell that a great deal of thought and care goes into their food planning and preparation. My friend made the suggestion that they should swap out the LED lighting to bring a warmer atmosphere, the LED is just to cold and blue in that lovely space. I agree and candles on the table would be the perfect touch for a more intimate setting. Just my two cents.
I would most certainly recommend this restaurant. The local area was devoid of truly exceptional options for a special dining experience, and the WB filled the void. The atmosphere is fancy, but not too haughty. White and clean with highlights of black and gray. Lighting is a bit dim, but not "eating the dark" dim either. Restaurant is BYOBottle, and there is no corking fee. Our server was attentive, polite and knowledgeable about the offerings, both resident menu items and the specials. Pastry chef is remarkable, the bread provided was fresh and delicious, came with rosemary-sea salt infused butter that was a tad too salty for my liking, but still good. Appetizers and main courses were excellent, in appropriate portions (not ridiculous American comfort portions, but still plenty to fill up a fat guy who likes to eat). The live music on Saturday night was an added bonus and not in the least bit distracting.
Overall, I would definitely go back. As any high quality experience, it was not inexpensive, but makes a lovely special occasion spot.
Excellent food and dessert. The experience was incredible.
