I’m always impressed by this place. The food and service are top notch.
Nice local restaurant, great food, great service. Seating inside under roof, with exterior roll up side protection. Provides both inside and out door comfortable experience.
Wonderful serving staff, very knowledgeable about all menu items including drink selection
Had a wonderful dinner the other night with friends and family. Service was excellent and friendly. Food was delicious and everyone ate everything on their plates. Definitely would go again!
Great whisky/bourbon selection! Options of fresh fish, red meat or chicken, something for everyone,
Great brunch menu.
Busy New Year’s eve day so food took a long time in coming. Very attentive server. Food was good and pretty basic. Light from windows very uncomfortable. Pleasant people in charge but given time and average food may deserve a second chance.
An innovative menu with some changes regularly. Good, friendly service and consistently well prepared food. Always a pleasure. One of the best, if not THE best Hamburgers in the city.
Went over the Christmas-New Year break week with out of town visitors from Europe. This was my first visit to this generally well-rated restaurant, which i believe is part of the Prep Kitchen group, and I have enjoyed Prep Kitchen Del Mar dining. The meal was was a near-total bust, including the menu selections and wine list that was lacking in good, lower-priced value selections in the 40-50 dollar range. That said, the Galerie Sauvignon Blanc white was fine and fairly priced at $66. Service also was attentive. Also, the salads were OK (roasted beet, and apple salads). The entrees were not even mediocre, they were flat out bad. Specifically, the vegetable Tajine, at $26, was unrecognizable as Tajine, and oddly dominated by a flavorless boulder-like cauliflower. The "Burger" had the promise of caramelized onions and cheddar, and a wide strip of pork belly and an egg, and a heaping mound of fries, but failed to deliver anything beyond blandness, and the meat had odd and fragmented texture and was unappetizing in all respects. The Dungeness Crab Tortellini similarly sounded interesting on paper, but the presentation of about 10 pieces was stark and lonely, and the crab was hardly noticeable and lacked interesting bedding or couplings to enhance any enjoyment of this pricey entree. The gelato trio dessert (for one), was fine, but failed to turn around the evening. The bill of ~$250 was also hard to digest. Was it an off night anomaly during the holidays, or does their menu need some more critical thinking ? Irregardless, hard to believe they could serve such entrees on any night.
Good. Parpadelle (hand cut) is much too wide to be eaten as parpadelle should
The food was good, the service good (although the meals were auctioned off) , the ambiance good ( but a little loud). I think that spending $350 for dinner for 4 should be more spectacular. Especially considering the tax, tip and employee cost surcharge equal 28% of total.
Superb food in lovely setting
Our server Amer was exceptional , service was timely , great recommendations and great personality
As always, dinner at Whisknladle was fantastic. The food is always good, but the service is even better :) Thanks Kim! I love the ambiance, especially around the holidays.
My girlfriends and I joined each other for brunch at Whisknladle and we had a great experience. The atmosphere is upscale casual and the food was excellent. We shared three plates to get a sampling of the menu and I would recommend each of them. We had the chilaquiles, blueberry ricotta pancakes, and eggs Benedict. The espresso was delicious too and served with a small biscotti type pastry.
I am excited to go back for brunch or dinner sometime.
My mention of a special occasion on the ap worked very well at the restaurant. Great coordination!
Met friends for a special occasion Friday lunch
Was somewhat disappointed to see there was a brunch menu as usually brunch menus are heavy breakfast with a couple of lunch items thrown in. Here there its more 50/50 so that was the first good sign.
Usual good service and excellent selection of drinks /beer /wine.
Always the BEST food and amazing service!! LOVE our local spot for everyday and special occasions...👏👏👏👏👏👏
Attractive and lives (but not loud), the ambiance is enjoyable. Food is very good. Best caesar salad that I've ever had; mussels with grilled toast was terrific; hamburger and fries was also very good. Beet salad was good, but overdressed and portion was small. Really enjoyed our visit, and would absolutely go back regularly.
Fun place to go In LaJolla
Date night with my girlfriend, our server was great; friendly and knowledgeable! We shared an appetizer and a meal, both of which the kitchen split for us and the food was delicious. Incredibly satisfying to our tastebuds and our stomachs! Our dollars were well spent on that meal!
Had a wonderful dinner. Amazing food and great cocktails. Different menu every time we go
Finally a Hollandaise sauce worthy of a return visit!
Food was delicious and the service was great! We would definitely come here again. We had the mussels and bone marrow for appetizers, and the scallops and pork bolognese for our entrees. The appetizers come with bread, so I would recommend holding off on the extra bread before.
It looked like there was a private room in the back that you could have a small group dining in.
All of the food was amazing! I highly recommend the bone marrow. Wait and host staff were astounding. My dad likes to ask a lot of questions and he learned a lot coming here. I guess they don't have farm-to-table restaurants in Florida so that was new for him.
Noise level was moderate, but because of the open seating the conversations around us minimized to soft ambient noise. That is really my favorite thing about the restaurant is the layout and attention to detail with the comfortable setup.
Great yet simple wine selection, and here I am only referring to the ease of selection from the menu as "simple". It seems like there is actually a lot to choose from if you are looking for something special. A lovely experience overall.
Birthday brunch was fantastic!
We enjoyed eating here. Menu was so hard to choose. Did find some parts too salty - wine list was exceptional and servers knew their wine.
Excellent birthday celebration dinner & special birthday desert too! Outstanding food & service!!!
Birthday dinner...great service, great food, yummy dessert!
Dinner was fine , but I resent the surcharge: the amount and the idea! Paying employees is an expense running a business and the cost should be figured in the charge of the product. It's not the customers' problem!
Our service was slow, but food was good. Nice desserts for our birthday celebration.
Great food as always. The temperature on the patio is always a little off, there always seems to be a strange mix of extremes between the cold coastal air and overhead heating elements that are very hot. That's my one and only complaint for this place though, always enjoyable despite that.
Great vibe in La Jolla. Great service and fun seasonal local menu. The cocktails are amazing and I won’t ever forget “London Burning”. Nice friendly staff and great food.
We had a fantastic pre cocktail and appetizer cheese bread board in the bar area which was good but the comfortable ness of the tables not so great.
We moved out to the restaurant for dinner and was placed at the greatest window table available ever and enjoyed a quiet exceptional dinner! We both ordered differently and we both were so pleased with cuisine we ordered! Perfect!🌟🌟
Great Ambiance and location, but too expensive for what it is.
Birthday dinner for my girlfriend and had a great time. Even have a free champagne cocktail for her with dessert.
They charge service charge for 3.95% and 20% for gratuity without good service and asking. It will be automatically put them in your bill. I was not happy about it.
Foods were pretty good but it does not worth what they serve.
Inside was too dark and I could not read their menu.
I will not go back there again.
Every visit to La Jolla includes a meal here! Delicious seasonal menu, excellent wine list and craft cocktails. Easy to give this neighborhood gem 5 stars!!!
I never miss a chance to dine at Whisknladle when visiting San Diego. It has been a favorite for years!
