This was my first time to Whiskey Joes. I hope it is not the last. The atmosphere was great. Seated on the 'beach' sand and the umbrella kept blowing over, after repeated requests, the umbrella was changed but not the problem. Our party moved it so the table and extra chair braced it against the breeze. Two of us ordered the crab cake appetizer that comes with plantains. It took FOREVER so we flagged down our server who explained that "they ran out of crab and it had to be made from scratch" (aren't they all made from scractch?) and it would take awhile - had Geo informed us of the situation earlier we may have changed our order. Luckily we were not in a rush and had plenty of time. When the 2 orders of a single crabcake arrived, one was warm and one ice cold and my friend was afraid it was never cooked and did not eat it. There was one plate of plantains I guess we were expected to share. After a very long while the server checked in and we explained the situation and took both crabcakes orders off the bill. It really took the away from the joy of eating out with special friends. A manager never checked in with us to see how things were. Disappointed in Ellenton.
This is my second visit. On my first visit, we only had appetizers and we thought they were good. This time we got a full meal. I got a Caesar Salad with Grouper. The salad was dry, not cut up enough to eat, no flavor at all. And the Grouper overcooked. My husband got the Fish and Chips, fries were good and crispy, but Fish was very greasy and a lot of batter. We had a side of Plantains, and that was my favorite part of the meal. Waitress was nice, and we were at a table on the beach so the view made up for it mostly. Just like so many restaurants in this area that have a view, they don't seem to try that hard to make great, consistent food.
The food was good but cold.
We had a great time! The hostess accommodated our seating request on the deck.
Lindsey our server was amazing!!! Was friendly and thoughtful and attentive making our experience even better!
Beautiful setting. Friendly waitress good food. We had a very nice time
Hidden gem on the water. Tiki bar right on the water in front of the building, along with a lawn and chairs, fire pit, etc.
So cool!! Beach ambiance, fire pits, feet in the sand!! Drinks were amazing and food was delicious!
We had a large group and they were very accommodating. Food was really good too!
Grouper sandwich had a very mushy thin piece of grilled grouper, if it was really grouper. It ranks among the worst grouper I’ve ever had. The sliders were way over cook. The prices for the food quality were too high.
We never got our food. The waitress disappeared for half an hour do we hot up and left.
We had family in town and decided to give Whiskey Joe’s a try as it’s right down the street from us! Everything was good, aside from our server... she was pretty slow.. maybe she was just very busy.
The food was delicious, great service and loved the view!
Service and the food was good. I believe that the drinks and the food prices are to high. All in all we that a good experience and I would recommend Whiskey Joe’s to anyone,
The food was terrible. also very expensive. Would not recommend it.
We had a great experience and the location on the river is great. Everyone enjoyed the food and the service.
The ambience was fantastic. Super excited to have Whiskey Joe's in Ellenton!
Service was good (wait staff) however food was slow and did not come out together. The bill also was confused but straightened out. Reward point system not working, not sure how to add the 54 points we earned.
Food overpriced...bartender could not get drink right. Very very slow service and tons of excuses. Restaurant was maybe 1/4 full no excuse for the poor and slow service. Bill with tip was $70 for thee people 1 adult 2 kids. Waste of time and money.
Beautiful place, food was VERY GOOD. Absolutley going to be a hit once this virus is over as long as you keep up with the great food and service. LOVE that you take reservations. Thank you, really enjoyed our time there.
Delicious food, beautiful views and awesome service. We will be back!
Enjoyed a nice leisure lunch our first visit...we will be back!
Everything was fine. What you would expect from an opening week.
Friends coming from out of town wanted to try your new restaurant. Our waitress was awesome. Food was only warm but we are understood because it was the first day opening. A little confused about the valet so we parked our car on the street.
I'll give it another shot since they had only been open for a week, but the food was just okay. Band was great. Fun atmosphere and a good setting.
We had a fun night, food was great, service could have been better. It was opening night though. I will be going back!!
Food was really good. Atmosphere was great! They need additional shades on the outside porch to block some if the sun because it's way too hot. In summer it will be 10x worse. Drinks came out slowly and service was just ok. But it was opening night so we'll see next time how it goes!
Awesome place for casual dining either inside, on the patio or at one of the tables on the sand. Service was great, food was delicious and the variety of adult beverages was fantastic.
We were seated outside with a lovely view of the river. But it was so hot with the sun beating on us that we asked to be moved to another table. We were but that was equably warm because of the time of day. You should probably install fans on the porch, it would make dining much more pleasant. The food was great, the view tremendous and the service, considering all the people there, was good. Will be back. I stopped there two different times to take pictures while you were almost through building because my son in Chicago was anxious to know when you were opening. Now he might not be able to comedown because he is a Chicago policeman and all their days off have been cancelled. Good luck with your business!
Overall it was a wonderful experience. The food was good, our server was very personable and attentive and it’s a fun, relaxing atmosphere. Food came out a little slow but it was only the third day they had been open, so they’re still figuring things out. We moved to the bar after our lunch, drinks were great but the bartender who was standing right in front of us, never acknowledged our presence, not even to say, someone will be with you soon. They were very busy, therefore I understand having to wait for service and drinks but not being acknowledged is unacceptable.
Well I made a reservation for 3pm for my husband birthday and the reservation stated to arrive 15min early and we got there around 12 min early. Checked in and they told us that it would be a 10-15 minute wait. So I was like why make a reservation if we still have to wait. ?? Then another family came in after us and the hostess Jordan sat them immediately. I notice that and I said we were here first and we had reservations and before I can finish my sentence she pointed and said I cleaned a table and your husband is over there. Anyways our waitress Liz who was excellent by the way asked us if we wanted to see the manager and of course we said yes. The Assistant Manager cane and she took care of the appetizer and around if drinks and she apologized. Once our food came my husband chicken was extremely dry and the rice was under cooked ( a lot ). Our waitress came back we told her our problem and she got the Assistant Manager again and she came back and said the manager was busy but she took care of our check. I appreciate our waitress Liz and the Assistant Manager for looking out for us and taking care of our concerns.
Lover the atmosphere
Food was mediocre for price
Service needed to speed it up
My wife and I rode our motorcycles to Whiskey Joe's. We had a reservation. They took us to our table which was very small, it would be tight with two plates, a couple of drinks and condiments. We are standing there with helmets and her purse with no place to put them. We can't hold these things in our laps or set them on the floor. We asked if we could have a little bit bigger table to accommodate our gear. There were LOTS of open tables. The girl said she would go check. She came back and told us no, all the other tables were reserved. So we left and went to Woody's River Roo right next door. Woody's is very biker friendly and let you sit where you want. They also have an area just for bikers to park their motorcycles. Been going to Woody's for years and I will continue to go to Woody's. I will never go to Whiskey Joe's again, big chain and biker unfriendly. BTW, we didn't eat at Whiskey Joe's but I had to give it a one star review to get through the review process.
I know it’s new and all but it was terrible experience. The only thing pleasant was the atmosphere, the outdoor area is amazing and the beverages were tasty.. everything else was horrible especially the food. It wasn’t busy and we waited 20 minutes for anyone to ask if we wanted to order anything, took forever, and the food was very disappointing to say the least.
We know it was the first few days so, we knew service wouldn’t be great and it wasn’t. We know that will get better. But what was really not enjoyable was the very loud music. We love live music, but we want to be able to have a conversation. And we were at a table outside near the tiki bar at the opposite end of the band. Way too loud!
Had a reservation and was seated right away. We ordered a bottle of wine and it took 25 minutes to get wine. Never was offered water. We placed our order for food in fear she wouldn’t be back anytime soon. We were never checked on while waiting 25 minutes for our wine. Then another 45 minutes goes by nobody checked on us. The food arrived around the 50 minute mark. Food was ok. My husband and I had to share a napkin because that is what was on the table when we sat down. The restaurant was not even at full capacity so the long wait and Lack of service was completely unacceptable. We were there almost two hours for dinner. We will return again.
The only thing I thought was nice was the water view and location.
Absolutely beautiful place with great views of the Manatee River. We sat on the outside deck, the food was really good and our server Kelli was awesome.
We went on Sunday prior to grand opening, which was by reservation only. The ambiance is fantastic! Lots of outdoor seating, beautiful beach are with Adirondack chairs, high top tables and lots of fire pit seating! There are corn toss games as well as other sand toss games, fun for family and kids and multiple boat dock spots at their pier. The sunset was beautiful!
The food was really good and the piped in music made for lovely background noise. Once the live band started we found we were way too close to carry on a conversation. Next time we will sit further away. The wait staff was somewhat overwhelmed, as the food took a long time and did not see waitress but a few times.
I’m sure they will work out the kinks, but this is a place that will become a frequent stop for us! So glad it is open!!
Possibly should have ordered something besides a dinner Grouper not great ordered Blackened and not really seasoned well. Drinks fairly expensive. 4 call vodka rocks $46.00. View is great
Way overpriced and slow..need to extend happy hour to 7
Everything was fantastic except the music was a bit too loud. Can’t wait to come back when they reopen from this Covid 19 baloney!
