About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Good for special occasions
  • Great for creative cocktails
Whiskey Bird is a casual spot in Atlanta’s Virginia Highland/Morningside neighborhood serving Pacific Rim-inspired dishes and classic cocktails. What's popular? Our crispy brussels sprouts, yakitori, gyoza tacos, chopped salad, poke bowl, WB burger, panko-crusted chicken, and Thai steak and noodle salad all top the list. For brunch, our jumbo breakfast burritos, Hong Kong chicken and waffles, "bao benedict", and avocado toast always seem to hit the spot.

Our outdoor seating is on an enclosed and heated patio.

We're all for alliteration, but "taco" doesn't cover it. It's really about the grilled steak fajitas. Not to mention the roasted cauliflower esquites and queso + wonton chips.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Whiskey Bird is a neighborhood gem known for its "excellent Asian fusion cuisine" and "friendly staff." Guests rave about "innovative and delicious food," and the accommodating atmosphere for families. The "super cute" decor and peaceful patio enhance the dining experience. Standout dishes include "Mexico City margaritas," "avocado toast," and "grilled salmon on crispy sweet and sour gnocchi." Despite some mixed reviews on specific items, the "great creative food" and "attentive service" make it a popular choice for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

Good overall, but not great. I went for a Friday lunch. I found no flaws in the service, generally, but the food was just good, not great. I had hoped the Saturday/Sunday brunch menu would be available, but it wasn't. Even though Friday is now the new Saturday! ;-) My companion complained about the chicken in the BCLT. I didn't taste it, but it looked very dry. My dish was a little unusual; it was a cauliflower appetizer with an option to add an egg or bacon. The over-easy egg was cooked perfectly, but the bacon seemed hard and dry. I liked it but didn't love it, and I love cauliflower.

This was such a great find! My friend and I had the Mexico City margaritas and they were outstanding, as were the cucumber ahi sashimi and the herb-miso salad. Everything tasted so fresh and flavorful and everyone working there was so friendly and seemed happy. The decor and vibe of the whole place is super cute; we ate on the back patio which was very peaceful. The best part is how accommodating they were to my kids (17 months and 4 years). They had kid's menus and a high chair and were so nice to them. It is so challenging to find a nice restaurant that is also accommodating to children. I will be back and am already recommending this place to friends and family!

Visited Whiskey Duck with a small group to celebrate two birthdays, and while the ambiance and concept were promising, the overall experience was just average. The yakitori skewers, which we were excited to try, unfortunately fell flat in both flavor and execution. Most lacked the depth or char you'd hope for, and the seasoning felt timid. The Peruvian chicken gyoza tacos sounded intriguing but were similarly bland, with the fusion elements not quite delivering. For my main, I ordered the hangar steak Thai noodle salad. It was actually quite refreshing and tasty — a decent balance of textures and flavors. The steak portion was modest, but at $25, the value still felt fair. Service started off well and seemed attentive on the surface. However, a major letdown was the complete lack of acknowledgment that we were celebrating two birthdays — something we clearly noted in the reservation. We weren’t expecting a big production, but even a small touch on the dessert or a kind word from the staff would’ve gone a long way to make the moment feel a little more special for my friends. Speaking of dessert, the brownie sundae we ordered to share was a disappointment. The ice cream was fine, but the brownie was dry and uninspired — it felt like an afterthought. Overall, Whiskey Duck has some potential, and I’d give it another try for a drink and snack at the bar, but based on this visit, it didn’t quite hit the mark for a special night out.

Really enjoyed our first visit to Whiskey Bird - we've been meaning to stop in for years now after hearing many good things, but somehow never did it until yesterday. The food is top notch in taste and Whiskey Bird does a great job of fusing different ingredients and tastes to arrive at some inventive pairings, e.g., octopus and Chinese sausage yakitori. Loved my entree of the grilled salmon on top of crispy sweet and sour gnocchi. Service was great too -- very attentive without being overbearing. Will be back soon!
