This was our first time to dine at Whiskey & Smoke and we were pleasantly surprised. The menu is interesting and offers a nice variety. My husband ordered the salmon with whipped potatoes and macaroni & cheese, which were all excellent. I ordered a turkey sandwich with avocado and potato salad and beans, once again, all excellent. Our waitress was attentive, friendly and efficient. The lighting was not too bright nor the music too loud. The decor and vibe meets all of our criteria whenever we choose to dine out.

Meal was fine, probably will give it one more try and see what second-impressions are. FYI to management, we posed a pricing question to our server and got an odd answer. Of the 3 side items that are offered as choices with a sandwich, two are mayo-based and therefore have egg and I’m allergic. I asked about substituting mac & cheese for a $1 up-charge, reflecting the difference in the a la carte prices of those items. Was told that any menu substitution required a $2 up-charge. Yep, that’s right. I’m semi-complaining about $1. We did not make a fuss with the server, just told her it seemed odd, let it go and ordered beans as the side. But note to management: You’re sending a message that you’re fine with nickel and dime-ing customers “just because.” Most restaurants these days are fine with substituting items for nominal up-charges, but a $2 up-charge for a $5.99 item? Come on, man.

That the food was just “ok”. The brisket was over oxidized. Seemed like it was cut and put under a heat lamb that dried it out.

I'll never eat here again. The sandwich I ordered was just bad food and kept me up most of that night. Also, the sides are extra, so when you order a cut of meat, that is the only thing on the plate. Restaurants like this are why we should eat at home.

Food was good, but way overpriced. Server was nice, but not very attentive. Had to keep requesting water refills for the whole table, but she was quick with the check. Once our entrees were delivered, we didn’t see her again. And after having to ask for more water, she would bring more and more glasses to the table and not clear the old ones. For an upscale restaurant, the service did not match and I was shocked one slice of cake was $17. Was also shocked there was no bread. Filet was tasty. I could cut it with a fork. Live music was nice. The temp in the restaurant was so cold. We had 6 people in our party and all were anxious to leave because we were all so cold. It’s a new restaurant and we hope they work out the kinks. We want them to succeed, but needs refinement.

The bourbon selection and value is impressive. The burnt end mac and cheese, green beans and sausage were yummy. The brisket (a Texas must have) - not tender or flavorful. The manager graciously took our feedback and adjusted our bill. They handled it nicely. But would have rather just enjoyed a good brisket as we brought our out of town friends. Hope that will improve.

This is a new restaurant/concept on the river walk in Flower Mound. I’m a little confused as to the intended audience. There are pretentious of fine dining on the menu (particularly in the cocktail/spirit area), but offering wagyu beef and interesting cocktails doesn’t elevate the experience enough. The barbecue is good, but not stellar. Meat is ordered by the quarter pound and served on metal trays with parchment paper. Hot sides come in small crocks, while cold sides are in bowls. The collard greens were the standout on the sides; the potato salad and sweet potato hash were decent, but again, not stellar. Unfortunately, when we dined at 5:30 PM, we were told that the brisket wasn’t quite ready. Instead, we had turkey, jalapeño sausage, and pulled pork. I was frankly astonished that the “Texas litmus test” for a bbq place was unavailable at the start of peak dinner hours. The staff was still working out the kinks in the table service. Service was a tug of war between too eager and not quite attentive enough. With time, this will resolve. There a mismatch between value and price here—it was too expensive for the kind of barbecue/experience we had. Restaurants are in a tough spot with inflation and labor challenges. Finding a niche in the offerings versus the value proposition is difficult. That being said, I think this concept is a mismatch for the river walk area. Backing off the prices, switching to counter service (more like Hard 8), reducing overhead, and dropping expensive items (like the wagyu) would make this more broadly appealing AND drive more business from casual diners and family. I’ll watch this

Excellent BBQ. This was absolutely some of the best BBQ I've had and I've had a lot! The sides were just as phenomenal! The staff were super friendly!

Decent brisket and sausage. Was very surprised at the underwhelming portion size of the banana pudding. $10, served in a martini glass (so, what, 4 bites?!). And I couldn’t even find a vanilla wafer in it.

We were there under the soft opening, did not have full menu going, seating only in bar area, so not a real opportunity to judge .. Family style serving ...Price by the pound seemed high... Need to go back after Grand Opening , sit in dining area ...or cooler weather out on patio (river walk )

The food was very flavorful, brisket had outstanding flavor. Just make sure to specify whether you want lean or little more fatty cuts. They were just doing soft opening, so all in all everything was very good considering they are still ironing out all the kinks in a newly opened restaurant. Staff was very friendly.
