Whiskey & Oyster
We had the restaurant week menu and everything was fantastic. We had three starters, the duck spring rolls, she crab soup and kung pao cauliflower. They were all delicious but the cauliflower was outstanding and I would definitely get that again. Next we had the chicken linguini and shrimp and grits. Both were outstanding. Finally for dessert we had the creme brulee and flourless chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was very decadent and rich so if you like rich desserts that's the one for you. I enjoyed the creme brulee because it was well balanced and not too sweet.
Great food, great service, great ambiance!
The food was great. We went during restaurant week to try it and now we are hooked. Only issue we had was one of the creme burlees was not set. The vibe and the whiskey selection was excellent.
The maple shrimp and grits were excellent. The service was good.
First time here. I had the crab cake sandwich and it was perfect! Excellent crab on a delicious bun with a beautiful sauce. I had the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Lets be real and just call it fudge! Yummy!
My server, Rayvon, was excellent. Great recommendations and checked in at timely intervals.
Great atmosphere. Friendly bar/wait staff but they need training - made 3 significant errors that could have been avoided. Restaurant was out of clams/clam chowder. Happy hour is great!
We loved this place, the food and service was great.
Stopped in for restaurant week and were able to enjoy happy hour oyster special and then restaurant week menu. Everything was delicious, especially the rockfish and the shrimp & grits. Beignets were also yummy! Staff were friendly and attentive. Space was lovely and parking was easy. Had a chance to chat with the chef who told us they will be doing an oyster tour/frequent visitor program soon. Definitely looking forward to that! Will definitely be back soon!
We decided to give them a try during restaurant week and we were very pleased. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive but not annoying, the food was delicious and great portion sizes. The Kung Pao cauliflower appetizer was big enough for a meal, and so tasty with just the right kick. The rockfish and shrimp and grits entrees were also quite good. And the star of the night were the desserts- beignets and flourless chocolate cake, oh my! Also their Old Fashioned is just to my liking, a tad sweet and very smooth. We will absolutely be back! As a very nice touch, the owner came around and chatted with all the diners, very welcoming.
Just perfect to meet friends
A new favorite restaurant for me! Adjacent to Old Town in Alexandria’s Carlyle area (easy parking in the evening), Whiskey and Oyster has a bright and open design with two large bar areas. Extensive whiskey selection. For diners there are comfy booths that also serve to limit noise from the bars. Love the menu — everything from raw bar selections and appetizers (Kung Pao cauliflower and Duck Spring Rolls were especially yummy)to salads, soups and sandwiches (e,g,, burgers, crab cake, po’ boy), and pasta and full dinner options. Service is very good/excellent — servers are very knowledgeable about menu items, courteous and efficient. On my most recent visit they appeared to be short-staffed, which delayed service somewhat, but not enough to be bothersome for us. Kitchen staff and the owner helped get the food out and make sure diners were happy and getting what they needed/wanted. This is a well-managed operation! Great addition to the Old Town restaurant scene. I will keep returning to Whiskey and Oyster!
The service was exceptionally and food was very tasty
Food was delicious and oysters were superb. Looking forward to going back!
Another favorite from "Mango Mike". I've been wanting to get here since they opened. This visit was a Christmas present from our son. The staff was first rate and the drinks and food - ON POINT! As a bourbon fan, I was very happy with the drink menu. We indulged for Brunch. They have a good variety. I am not a seafood fan but my family loved their choices. There was plenty for me as a non seafood lover. We will definitely be back to try the lunch/dinner menu.
Great service. Nice decor. Good drinks. But food was very salty across the board.
Understated, quiet and comfortable. Food was excellent- try the crab dip. Interesting and very good desert menu.
Best service I have had in quite a while. I eat oysters, but I do not love oysters. I loved their oysters. Will dine here again.
My only complaint is that the service can be REALLY slow, especially around lunch
Service was VERY slow - there was only one server?
It's a shame this restaurant is where it is, bc it could do a lot better it was about a mile north. Food is good, ambiance is fine, just missing a liveliness.
Food was great!
Great food, lobster bisque fries were delicious. Drinks were very good as well. Will be back!
The owner stopped by my table and thanked us personally
The evening was wonderful. Went to grab dinner with a coworker after our training class. From the time we walked in until the time we left...it was wonderful.
This could have been so good... the decor is quite nice. The food was overall pretty good. BUT, our server was awful. She mixed up our orders. Asked us to repeat and then just started over. Next she tells us they are out of lobster. Ok. But there are quite a few lobster dishes on the menu. Did someone not plan well? Then when my son ordered a burger and fries, she tells us they are out of potatoes and all they have is sweet potato fries (which he doesn’t like). Ok. Our food comes out and he asks for ketchup. She tells us they are out of ketchup. Now I’m wondering what kind of place is this!?! My friend sitting next to me tells her the dish he got was not what he ordered. She said “oh yeah”. And that was it!! Never brought him the right dish. Didn’t comp his meal. Didn’t even apologize. Wow. Just wow. I know the owner of this restaurant so I’m going to chalk it up to growing pains but it will take many months before I am ready to give it another try.
We had a very nice dining experience. The seafood tower was delicious however was not presented well. The tower looked huge with seafood that didn't quite add up to the size. Random chunks of crawfish were chopped and strewn haphazardly to try and make the top level look full. Aside from that, the food was well enjoyed and the experience was lovely.
Brought 7 members of my family to Whiskey & Oyster for a festive dinner and had a fantastic experience. The oysters were fresh and tasty, everyone raves about the crab dip, and the entrees (mostly seafood) got high marks. Really good food and good service, and not outrageously priced.
Amazing atmosphere and amazing food. We will definitely be back.
Interesting concept and great potential but at 7:30 they were out of an entree my husband ordered at 7. My she crab soup was bliss, but his appetizer was much too spicy hot. The fried oysters were nothing special, small with lots of Panko. I expected more from a restsursnt specislizing in oysters. Nevertheless, we'll be back in the hope things will get better.
Wonderful food and service
Went twice this week! Once for a fun, happy hour with 6 friends and the bartender was great! Made us all kinds of fantastic cocktails, suggested new beers to try, plus a flight of Virginia whiskey. We ordered 6 appetizers and each one was outstanding! The cauliflower was our favorite and the Belle of the Ball cocktail. Brunch was fantastic with lots of lobster and fresh oyster selections. I had the spinach pasta with shrimp and lemon-dill sauce. YUMMY! Decor is by a local artist in Old Town and we all loved the long bar table and atmosphere overall. They have their own parking garage around back! We will be regulars and taking more friends for dinner and Happy Hour. Easy in and out for everyone.. Movie theater and metro close by is a nice perk.
We had brunch here with some family (and a toddler) and everything was great. I was very impressed with the food (unlike the first time I went closer to their opening, they've clearly ironed out some kinks). The service was just OK, the server didn't know the oyster menu very well and had to check on availability more than once. BUT the oysters were fabulous, food was delicious and came out fast and hot. What more could you want?!
This was our first visit and it was quite lovely. Easy to park and greeted immediately when we walked in. Our server was delightful! The food was good and a nice change. I had the W+O Roast -Steam Pot with Lobster and it was delicious.
We loved our lunch. I had the crabcake sandwich, it was delicious. Will be back.
Excellent food at a great price! Must try in the area.
One of the best seafood meals I have had in a long time. Loved the little oyster guide they included with the menu. It helped us choose the perfect oysters for our tastes!
Oysters were fresh and flavourful. Whiskey selection was decent but overpriced. The ambiance was a bit sterile, but not bad for being in an office park.
Whiskey & Oyster was delicious and such a gorgeous restaurant! We loved having our date night there. We started with the Lobster Bisque Fries, which were so good that we were practically licking the plate, and then my boyfriend got the Lobster Steam Pot and I got the Pan-Seared Bass. Both entrees were so delicious and well done. We were too full to have dessert, but we were so impressed with the food, the presentation of the food, the decor, and the service, and we will definitely be gonig back sometime soon!
We went during happy hour, which is only available in the bar area. I have never understood why restaurants do that - offer half-price apps and discounted drinks only at the bar, not for the rest of the restaurant!? That is a minor gripe of mine...anyway, we liked the swanky feel of this place – very clean and modern. We will definitely return to try more dishes and we feel that we would go back during happy hour as well. The calamari app was amazing and the oysters on happy hour special were absolutely delicious. We shared the ahi tuna with squid ink pasta and the crab cake entree - both of which were delicious and both of which we would order again! The Old Fashion was the best we've ever tasted - we had a fun time talking with the bartender, Edward, and he was very helpful in guiding us around the cocktail menu. All-in-all a terrific place!
Nice happy hour specials and whiskey selection. The bouillabaisse was a bit short on seafood and heavy on potatoes, but the oysters were on point.
