Outstanding experience from a friendly team. The stripped back interior, relaxed atmosphere and outstanding food me for a great experience. Very simple creative tasting menu with unusual parings and outstanding ingredients, and a good few sour flavours to get the taste buds going. There's currently a good bit of East Asian influence in the dishes but that could have changed by next week or even by tomorrow. Highly recommended.

This place is stunning. It's also hard to describe. If you want to give your taste buds a shake-up and if you're open to new ideas and experiences, you must try it. I can't tell you what to expect, other than an extraordinary and memorable evening.

I so, SO wanted this to be good. It's Stockport. My town. We need outstanding. And when it wasn't I decided to hold my tongue. Today I read that you now have to pay in advance to eat here and the safety valve has burst. I'll start by saying that a comment made when I phoned to confirm the booking was pretty offensive. I also prefer to go straight to a restaurant rather than spend ten minutes creeping Scooby-do-like up and down the dark, unweeded ginnel that is Rostron Brow because WTLGI is just soooooo clever that it doesn't need a sign. If I am meeting friends I usually do so in the bar of the restaurant. There is a bar. It comprises three sofas and no drinks. If there are no spaces you have to go next door to the pub - apparently. If WTLGI (see, I learn quickly) likes to "Tell a story through a selection of plates" why are we advised that we will have "8 to 10" dishes? Which pages are being ripped out of the novel? Five minutes before we are due to sit down do they really not know? The "wine pairing" is what you must drink if you fancy a drop of booze. No choice. One of the wines "pairs" with two courses which seems quite a coincidence. Or lazy. Or mean. The sommelier is charming throughout. One marigold petal does not make any difference whatsoever to a small marble of pickled kohlrabi other than to prettify it so why mention it as an ingredient. I don't like raw woodpigeon. No matter what it is seasoned with. And I mean "raw" to the extent that its foot was pink and fleshy. Another "course" was a basket of bread. Presumably there to fulfil the same role as my Great Grandma's Yorkshire puddings.... Some tastes were unusual, original and interesting but the dessert of "Plum cake made with damsons" (?) was home cooking. Then FINALLY, the first "choice" of the evening. Do you want to add service -to a £480 bill that has jumped alarmingly since "that review" I don't pay to worship chefs. I like to be cossetted and thrilled. We seriously disliked this.

Very interesting restaurant with some great ideas and real enthusiasm for what they are trying to create but really not for me or anyone else in my party. The blind tasting menu led to being served some dishes that most our party didn't enjoy, 3 of the 4 of us asked for the very bloody pigeon breast with leg and claw to be cooked for a bit longer, even after that, 2 of the 4 couldn't eat it. The langustine dish was practically invisible on the extremely attractive plate, when the dish was explained to us, my wife asked 'where is that?' 'On the plate' the waiter replied. We couldn't see what he was describing. However there were some nice touches which I know some foodies would love. Overall it was a memorable experience being served food which has provoked a lot of thought, not all positive I'm afraid. Simply put, it wasn't the sort of food I appreciate and disappointing for the price we paid.

Absolutely amazing. Discovered via a 10/10 review in the Guardian. Sam & the team are producing simply incredible, world-class food using the best seasonal ingredients (including foraging locally) for their tasting menu, and pairing with a series of stunning natural wines. And they're doing all of this while maintaining a relaxed, comfortable, welcoming atmosphere. Already on the road for awards, and deservedly so. Can't wait to make a return visit!

Interesting and carefully prepared food. The service was relaxed but informative. The wine flight was excellent and really added to the evening. We will definitely be back. At the high end in terms of the final bill but well worth it and good value.

It took us a little while to find WTLGI as it's hidden away off a side street. However, when we got inside we were immediately welcomed by both the great staff and warm atmosphere. We had 15 courses in total, including DIY crisps to start and sweets and tiny tarts with the coffee to finish. We were fortunate enough to be place at the bench overlooking the kitchen - something I will definitely be requesting when we go again! It was fascinating to see how much effort goes into each course, and being able to ask questions to the chefs was a treat. The food itself is exceptional, with a special mention to both the pigeon broth and the pigeon breast and leg that immediately followed. The caramelised peach skins were out of this world, and perfectly complemented by the wine that was served with that course. Speaking of the wine - the wine flight consisted of 5 different wines that came at different stages of the meal. With a couple of the wines we were given more than one glass. Each wine went exceptionally well with the courses around that stage of the meal, with a special mention to the cloudy, almost cider-like wine that came with the mussels. We spoke to all of the front-of-house staff throughout the evening. Each was friendly and open to talk about the food and drink being served throughout the evening. We spent a while at the end of the evening chatting with the head chef / owner about the food and how much we had enjoyed ourselves. Our booking was for 8:30pm, and we were in the restaurant until 12:45am! We never felt rushed, and were offered the additional cheese and port even though it had gone midnight! Everyone seemed happy for to let us enjoy every course for as long as we wanted. I could wax lyrical about WTLGI all day, but I'm running out of characters. Needless to say, I couldn't recommend it enough. Go, and enjoy the best meal you will ever have!
