WTLGI is the perfect restaurant with a brilliant team headed by Sam. Each dish is perfectly sized and perfectly thought through, delivered to you by the chefs who've made it with all the love and care they've put into creating it. Staggeringly good.

Loved every minute of our Friday evening, from the second we were beconed in to the handshakes on leaving. My wife and I are typically British and feel awkward in a restaurant until we have passed the menu back to a waiter. None of this at WTLGI, enjoyed the chat and atmosphere. Having Sam explain his approach and background to the restaurant was brilliant. Thanks to everybody.

WTLGI is the future of high end dining without the unnecessary pomp. Amazing food and wine served by a friendly and knowledgeable team in a thoughtful and well designed space.

Our second visit did not disappoint. This time we were able to sit close to the kitchen and watch the dishes being prepared with skill and precision. There is also talent and a quiet passion for the food on show, in a typically understated way. We chose the wine flight which was delicious and interestingly explained, and included a lovely dry cider. The many courses gave us kale, smoked eel, mutton, mussels, and plum cake. The cheeses were excellent, accompanied by a great fortified wine. Although the final bill in WTLGI is not small, we were well looked after for over 3 hours in a beautiful, cosy hideaway. Not only that, but this is the kind of meal you find yourself talking about for days afterwards, and thinking about for longer still. For that reason alone the place is great value for money.

An all-round fantastic dining experience from start to finish. Wonderful service from friendly staff who know how to treat customers impeccably, and are immensely knowledgeable about the food they serve. And on the subject of the food, it's pretty damn good, obviously prepared with diligent care and attention. The provenance is also key element to the story of each dish, and adds yet another layer to an amazing meal, and a very well-spent evening.

The food and service were excellent, and the environment very much to our taste. The coffee was disappointingly weak, and since the set-price meal was by any standard expensive, we felt that to charge another £9.00 for coffee for two struck the wrong note. We liked having the choice of beer instead of wine as an aperitif, and would have welcomed another beer, say a strong stout or porter, as an alternative to the sweet wine at the end.

An all-round amazing place: great food, incredible wine list, and service that is both attentive and informal - a rare combination. The intimate setting and restricted covers means that we weren't rushed, and that staff had the time to explain each dish and each wine to us. Creative dishes put together with care and real skill. Loved it.

The experience begins with trying to find the place! Its up a dark alley and then a metal staircase, no signs and absolutely inaccessible for anyone with a mobility problem. Opening the door is like teleporting to a trendy New York loft with beards, braces and grey Tee shirts everywhere. A very warm welcome from the staff and an explanation of the concept, 8 courses, a choice of either water, juice flight or wine flight. An interesting snack at the reception seating area of crisps and a few pots of flavouring to bland your own style – quite neat and a talking point for sure. Our table was right next to the open kitchen which was actually fascinating, seeing the activity and watching the chefs prepare and cook, very immersive in the concept. The food ebbed between good and great - not everyone liked everything but genuinely no criticism of the effort and creativity - its just a great, immersive experience. The wine flight is certainly worth a mention, it was clearly something they’d worked hard on – the wines were all very well chosen and super quality. £45 a head for the flight was fair I think and certainly lifted the less proficient courses. So in summary I can’t say it was the best meal I’ve had but I would say it’s the best “experience” in a long time, it’s a great concept, really super service and something very different for us northern diners.
