Wheelhouse - Grand Rapids

Last night was my first time at The Wheelhouse. It’s a really nice restaurant. Good vibes. The decore is nice. Service was a little slower then I would have liked but not horrible. My wife got the “Chicken In A Biscuit” and I got the Double Burger. My burger was very good but my wife’s chicken was a little tough and the biscuit was a really hard. So she didn’t finish it. She regrets gitting that. Next time she said she will go with something else. My burger was really good. We will be back in the future.
It was delightful! Met the chef. Special attention and dessert for our anniversary. We loved it!
First time there. Made a reservation based on opentable reviews. We weren’t disappointed. Everyone had something different and it was all very good. Craft cocktails were also yummy! As was dessert! Would definitely go back soon.
This was hands down one of the best dining experiences I have had in Grand Rapids. Not only was the atmosphere lovely, the food and cocktails were phenomenal. The staff recommendations were on point, I would highly suggest going with their choices, their know what they are talking about.
Beautiful place - very chic! Lots of lights for Christmas, I assume. We have been there 3 times but others were earlier so place looks different at night and we loved it. Food is always top-notch!
The chicken sandwich was very good but the burger... oh my! One of the best!
Attended a concert at The Van Andel Arena and noticed how close ‘The Wheel House’ was to the venue. Also need a place that has some Vegan choices...my friend was a Vegan. The Wheel House was great! The food was so good and the menu had some very interesting dishes.,Plus, the deco was lively and colorful. I would definitely go back again, next time I’m in Grand Rapids.
I love the Cobb Salad and French Onion Soup! But I don’t love the winter menu.
Everything at Wheelhouse exceeded our expectations! Our server, Frankie, was all over it. He was assisted by numerous people. We always had everything we needed. The food was outstanding, both appetizers and main courses. Beer selection was great!
Without a doubt we had the best meal we have ever had. The brisket was amazing and the accompanying squash latkes were exquisite. The goat cheese appetizer was a great start, the cherry compote and the artisan bread took the tastebuds to a whole news level. Turtle profiteroles and the craft ales added to the experience as did the superb service. The knowledge our server had of the food she served us is a compliment to her dedication to her job and the restaurant who employs her. Thank you for a great preamble to the Bob Seger concert. Even the valet service was right on point.
We enjoyed New Year’s Eve here. Two appetizers - the oysters and the pan fried goat cheese - were outstanding! Wine list was good. Service was outstanding. Entrees were good, but not as fabulous as expected after the apps. Ambience was great. Clientele was diverse. The booth we were given was not comfortable and they accommodated our ask to sit at a table. ( The booths have very high backs and force you to sit up straight. There isn’t much room between one’s abdomen and the table to allow one to lean over to hear conversation over the band). We recommend!
We went for our New Years Eve dinner and it was amazing.
We had the best family New Year's Eve dinner here. Josiah our server was probably one of the top ten servers we've ever had in our 50+ years of dining out. He was attentive, kind, efficient and very knowledgable. He made our family celebration so special. Our adult daughter has many food allergies. We ordered appetizers for the table, but there were not any she could have on the menu so the chef created an appetizer just for her. It was a delicious and wonderful way to start the dining experience that evening. We wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant and give Josiah our highest endorsement. Thanks Wheelhouse for helping us end 2018 on such a delectable and enjoyable note!
We took my mom there yesterday for her 80th birthday! It was an amazing experience sitting by the window fireplace! The food was spectacular! Jack was a great waiter! But best of all it made for a memorable experience for my mom Nancy Clouse ( Cole Randall's Grandmother ) I will continue to share our experience with all of our friends and family. Sue Randall
We've always loved the Wheelhouse but we were disappointed at our last visit. We went earlier than normal because we had plans after dinner so it wasn't crowded but our service was still slow. Our server was nice enough and knowledgeable but it took a long time to get drinks and the table next us - that came in after us - that ordered drinks and dinner after us - got served first. That might just be me, but that is my biggest pet peeve at a restaurant. It usually means the server forgot our order or lost it or the kitchen messed up. Anyway, nothing was overly bad - I've certainly had worse food and service but the experience we had when compared to other experiences there was defiantly not up to par. We'll try the Wheelhouse again but if we have the same experience, it will be the last time.
Was running a bit late getting into the city as there was an accident on the expressway just before you get to the exit. The staff called to check and make sure we still wanted the reservation, which is great service, we made it about 10 minutes late. Once we got there got seated quickly, the establishment was not that busy at all the bar area was lightly populated and the dining area had a lot of open tables . The waiter came over a few moments after being seated and took the drink order. Then this is where things went downhill, 10 minutes in no waiter no drinks, 15 minutes in water is empty and still no return to our table with drinks or asking if we want an appetizer or even better food. Note we can see the staff they all seem to have fled with the exception of taking care of one table. The table across from us was in the same boat with the service level, non-existent. 20 minutes in it is evident that this restaurant is not interested in making money or taking care of customers. My party is getting anxious, thirsty and hungry, I called just down the street to Bistro Bella Vita and talked a fantastic person, got us a seat. The food, the staff and the overall experience at BBV were excellent. We headed out the door, the greeter did not ask why we where leaving 20 minutes in, the waiter looked confused and I would not recommend this place over Applebees. The great news is that great new concepts are always being started up to weed the crap out of the market. Don't bother.
Although the menu is somewhat limited, the food options that are offered are excellent. I decided to order a few of the small plates just to try a variety of items, and I loved each and every dish. Plus, the caesar salad was unique and delicious. The two cocktails I ordered were very tasty - a bit sweet but still boozy. The decor was beautiful - very seasonal (Christmas). The service was not the greatest. There was a mixup with our server assignment, which ended up resulting in a significant delay. Very friendly server(s), though.

Drinks/wine were good. Very festive (Christmas) decor, tastefully done. Great service. Food was bland/dry, my wife and I both ate just enough office our entrees to not be hungry and stopped. We've been here several times before and I remember the food being better. We'll give it another try.
Decorated beautifully for Christmas. Very cozy, and could have good conversation. The food was a disappointment however, the breaded chicken was way over cooked and dry, with hardly any meat, mostly burnt crust. The biscuit was also very dry and crunchy. And the fries were cold.
The waitress came once during the mealtime, and we all had run out of water, and the restaurant was less than half full.
Service was slow. They appear under-staffed during Saturday evening. Food, drinks were slow to be delivered. Waiter was scarce. Finally, I had salmon on my salad, it was overcooked and over-seasoned. Used to be one of my favorite places to visit. Not now.
Family Christmas celebration
Celebrated our annual Christmas dinner with our family at Wheelhouse this year. We have various menu needs, all were fulfilled! We were first timers and it was fantastic! Table was ready, we were early! Staff was attentive! The food was terrific!
Fantastic ambiance but a very limited menu. We went for lunch - December 21 - for Christmas The deviled egg appetizer was great, but not much else to choose from. With two glasses of wine, deviled eggs and appetizer we were over $85. This was the third time we were there (prior two times were for dinner). Consistent: great location and ambiance ... but don’t got expecting food specialties and value.
All was great except the table we were at was behind the hostess stand and the phone kept ringing.
Service was a little slow but not unacceptable! Food was great and a good value!
Our server was fantastic as was the food. Awesome Christmas brunch! Everyone was so friendly! Kids had a blast :)
Never disappointed at wheelhouse. Love the food, service and ambiance.
Always fantastic, holiday decorations are totally worth a visit!
From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the friendly hosts. Q got us started with waters immediately and made sure we had everything we needed the whole night! He was great! Megan was our server and was knowledgeable about the whole menu-drinks and food! And when I left our 8 tickets to the comedy club at the hotel Stephanie stepped in and went above and beyond and saved the day by printing them out for us! The entire experience was wonderful and made for a perfect birthday dinner location with my whole family!
Lovely Christmas decorations. Great service. Food is high quality and tasty. Portions are small, so we had to eat again after we got home. We are NOT big eaters either.
FABULOUS! Went for girls' Christmas dinner. Beautifully decorated which added to our night out. Food was fantastic. All but one of us ordered the evening's special which was Skate Fish. A new delicious experience for us - - - highly recommend it! Exceptional service - as always. Just may be my new favorite downtown place!
Great place to have business dinner. Great food and excellent service.
Great meal, excellent service, gorgeous Christmas decorations!
Fantastic service last night!!! Thank you so much! From the hosts, the bartenders, and server! Fabulous food - great job kitchen staff. Looking forward to visiting Wheelhouse again soon. The decor was amazing, hats off!
The customer service was outstanding, the staff performed as a cohesive team, both friendly and professional. The food was very good, I was even given a gluten free option that wasn’t on the theatre menu. Overall, a great dining experience.
I like the variety of items on the menu. Some are creative and those of us who love food adventures, this is a treat. I love the décor and the atmosphere. Now it looks very festive with all the Christmas decorations! Absolutely beautiful! Servers are attentive and fun as well. This is a good place to go before/after events at the local venues. We will be coming back and would highly recommend.
The seasonal decorations were gorgeous! What a great evening!
Outstanding service and food quality!! Don’t forget to save room for dessert... amazing!!!
Food was decent, ambiance was nice, chef is CRAZY. I wouldn’t recommend for that reason alone. Example: I love goat cheese, I love it pan fried and spread on bread. I do not however care for fruit or fruit spreads of any sort with my food. I understand this is popular but it’s not for me. I asked for the tart cherry spread to be put on the side. The waiter said she would have to talk to the chef...15 min later my appetizer came out, covered in cherry spread. Not only did the chef refuse to honor my request, no one came out to ask me if I would still want the appetizer. Luckily, it scraped off just fine and we were all able to enjoy the appetizer the way WE wanted to. Next up, my friend ordered a burger. On the menu there is the option to add things like bacon, egg, etc. He requested a bacon and an egg on his cheeseburger and he was told that he would not be allowed to have it that way. “The chef puts a lot of time and thought into how this burger is created, how the flavors meld together, down to every last bit of the patty itself. No substitutions or add ons allowed” (even though it’s on the menu). It’s a hamburger. Get over yourself. Honestly, the experience was laughable. I’m from Chicago and I’ve never encountered such snobbery at a restaurant. I’ll be sure to tell everyone I know because the whole thing was a joke.
