West Steak and Seafood Ratings and Reviews
This is our favorite go to place for Happy Hour in North County. Beautiful bar, great vibe, many selections and all of the food is delicious. We ate in the dining room for a change and I can say the filet mignon was as good as any I've ever had and done to perfection. They include 2 (generous) sides with your entree, unlike most steak houses that charge for your sides. Fresh ciabatta rolls, friendly wait staff. Doesn't get any better than this!
Perfectly cooked steak and lobster in a beautiful setting. The service was excellent . The booths are very comfortable and quiet enough for conversation. Get the mushrooms as a side. Delicious. I wish the prices were less, but for a special occasion, it was wonderful.
The happy hour here is amazing, but the menu is completely overpriced and not worth it. When I order a $53 piece of fish, I would expect a chef to select sides they feel appropriate to create a tasty dish. Instead you choose your sides and they're terrible. They literally brought out raw broccoli as one of my sides. If I wanted asparagus, that would have been an extra $8, which is ridiculous. We spent close to $275 and it was not worth it. I wouldn't go back again unless it was happy hour.
A perfect end to a rather challenging year......the wide open expansive seating area created a spacious feel.....our booth was comfy and easy for conversation.....oooops, almost forgot to mention the tasty lightly seasoned calamari, the roasted beet salad , and sooo tender and flavorful filet Mignon.......also, special kudos to our friendly and welcoming server, Anne Marie.....
We've been to West the last 3 New Year's Eves, so it's becoming an annual tradition. Food is always great, and last night was no exception
The chef even came out to make sure my food sensitive wife could eat what she ordered. Looking forward to being back next year, and hopefully sooner!
New Year's Eve dinner with the wife at 6pm. We split a sashimi appetizer and each ordered a martini. For dinner, I had the aged ribeye steak, and my wife had 1 lb king crab legs. Each of us ordered a glass of wine to go with dinner. Also added a carrot cake dessert to take home. As usual, food and service were superb. We love the place, but it's too expensive to keep in the rotation regularly. Couple times per year, we will splurge and thoroughly enjoy.
Had another great meal tonight on NYE with long time friends! Very nicely decorated in classic style with exceptional service by ALL! They seated us immediately at a great table with COMFORTABLE chairs to accommodate each of us. They also have many comfortable booths. They serve the regular menu at the regular prices even on NYE along with a few yummy sounding specials. The service, drinks, appetizer, entrees and desserts were all perfect. Martini and cosmos were icy cold and just right to start off with. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was nicely plated with sauces and little veggies. The Chilean Sea bass had a delicious sauce. The filet mignon was just right as always. We LOVED their fresh creamed corn! The rack of lamb was tender and juicy with a nice sauce. The carrot cake was huge and exceptional for the perfect ending to another year! Thank you for all working on NYE with a smile and making us feel welcome. Happy New Year and we’ll see you soon.
The food and service were surprisingly good, much better than I expected. The atmosphere is unremarkable and the number of small children did nothing to enhance the dining experience. Perhaps the restaurant might offer tranquilizer darts to calm overly energetic, under-supervised offspring since their parents don't seem to be interested in doing so.
Haven't eaten here in almost 9 years and have to say, things have sure gotten good!
I ordered the 22 oz. Porterhouse with a wedge salad. The steak was tender, cooked to perfection and the flavor was exquisite! The salad was exactly as I like my wedge salads: fresh tomato, bacon bits, and a home made dressing with lots of chunks of fresh blue cheese.
I opted to have no "sides" that were included with the steak, so they substituted the salad.
Hubby had a "combo" plate with very large, fresh shrimp, scallops and a petit filet mignon (again, cooked to perfection). Great truffle mashed potatoes and fresh, from the garden veggies.
Our wait person, Ann Marie, was extremely nice and helpful but she was also the most professional server we've EVER had! She didn't just take our order and let others take care of us as so many restaurants of this caliber tend to do nowadays, but stopped by several times to check in with us.
We definitely are making this our "go-to" steak and special occasion place, replacing Argyle, which has become less appealing over the years.
Overall there was no problem whatsoever. The food was adequate although certainly not the best I've ever had. I've had better rack of lamb at one third of the price and better filet mignon at one half the price but these as presented on the menu were tasty and this was a special evening so no complaints overall. I've been here a couple of times and the food is quite good but certainly not equal to the price we pay for these items but I would go there again...
I have to say I was very disappointed. We were sat right at the kitchen entrance, we were in the way of the servers coming and going and could hear everything the kitchen staff and managers were saying. It really didn't make for an enjoyable dining experience. The food was ok, but nothing fantastic.
I've been to The West several times, as I live in Carlsbad. I always request a booth on the back wall, as I did this time using Open Table. We arrived on time, and there wasn't a booth on the back wall available according to the hostess, and they seemed to push us to choose something else due to 'unknown timing' on a booth in the dining room. First time that has happened. We were placed in a booth near the bar, in a corner with no view, near the station where waiters were talking and placing orders. Very disappointing experience. I should have booked Vigilucci's or Truluck's for this first date. As a novelist and business owner in La Costa, I'd never handle a customer with a written request... like this.
We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary at West this year. It was are first time eating their. The food was awesome the Waiter was excellent! He had a great personality and so helpful with the menu. He was a 5 star Waiter! My only complaint is that it was very loud. Sports bar loud! I think there are to many tables packed to close together. It was missing the intimate anniversary feel I was expecting and hopping for.
We love West Steakhouse, from Eddie who is always there to greet us, to the fabulous wait staff, to the amazing bartender who can create a great martini filled to the brim. Then to the amazing menu which never disappoints! We look forward to the next time every time.
My wife and I were having a date and thought West's be wonderful. We use to go several times a month and then started trying other places. My meal, the lobster, was very good. The sides are large and really enough for 2 people. My wife had the vegetarian plate and she said it was not that good and would not ever order it again. Overall, this is a nice place but a bit on the costly side.
Our server Anne Marie was awesome, she kept it fun and enjoyable to interact with. The food though... the bone in steak was juicy and tender. I only wish it was slightly better priced. It was good quality but if you've been to other gourmet steak houses it leaves you feeling like you spent a little too much here.
I took my 16 year old son to Weat for a good dinner before a two day lacrosse tournament in Oceanside and we were thrilled with the dinner. He ranked it as the second best shrimp cocktail ever. I have the bone in filet and it ranks in my top 5 steakhouse steaks ever. We sat in a booth at the bar and the young lady serving us was very sweet and prompt. The guys bringing the food were well dressed and professional. Get a side of lobster Mac and cheese and crepe brûlée for dessert you won’t regret it! West rocks.
The 30 day aged steak was tender and delicious and the other steak with the Oscar lobster topping was great; The carpaccio looked great and tasted awesome; martini was nice and they put blue cheese in the olives. The server was very attentive and even brought us a creme brûlée because it was our anniversary. Pricey, but very nice for a special occasion
