This place is the real deal. We lived in NBPT for years and were just up for a visit with friends this week, so happy we went to West Row. We arrived early and order a cocktail at the bar, started checking out menu which we found to have a nice selection of which 80% sounded like great options. Waiting for our friends we found the bar clean, inviting and well positioned in the room. The dining space is modest in size and very comfortable. The whole place has a really nice comfortable feel. We had the Chicken pot stickers and Brussel Sprouts for starters... would be hard not to order them again next time. I ordered the Cod which sat on a ring of jasmine rice surrounded by a curry sauce with mussels and sweet potato... exceptional dish. Can't wait to get back but if they are cooking like this every night, its going to be hard to get a seat. Oh and the wait staff, bartender and hostess all shared the same high skills quality as the food they served.
Opentable has the address listed as Market Street - not Market Square which brings you to a residence not far away. OOPS! The restaurant was cozy. good food, great service, nice bar - but if you're seated by the windows and its cold out, you'll freeze. They need better insulation. The creme brulee was not great. broken or curdled, but the waitress took it off the check without us asking since she saw we didn't enjoy it.
We love the food, service, and staff. Would have stayed for dessert, but we retreated because it was so loud in the place that our heads hurt. Not sure we will return. Not the anniversary dinner we envisioned. Interestingly, the bar side seemed quieter than the dining room.
West Row's chef cooked us a fantastic, healthy and creative dinner the night Newburyport lit it's annual Christmas tree. Service was great; the only complaint we ever have with this restaurant is that
the noise level is unacceptable. The other night it was relatively empty so noise wasn't a problem but they need to put up some sound absorbing materials, especially since tables are so close together! Other than that, we love West Row and will be coming back.
Great find in Newburyport center. Menu is not huge but food is delicious and creative.
Love the restaurant and have been there several times. We arrived at 2:00pm for a 3:00pm reservation ans were seated immediately which was great but did not know that dinners started at 3 so we were limited to the Brunch menu. OK but not great. The Cobb Salad had a strange salad chunks that were very bitter. All in all a very nice experience but really would've been ideal off the dinner menu. Our fault however for not knowing.
Interesting and creative flavor combinations added up to a delicious meal. Will definitely be back.
Service and food were excellent! Reservation on time seated immediately. Noise level was on the loud side, crowd was respectful. Great window seat view of downtown Newburybort!
This place is SOOOOOO loud that you have to scream at your friend across the table AND sitting next to you at the bar. I've come here twice. First time at at the bar late eve on a Saturday so was shouting at my date who was seated literally right next to me. The food was decent and the dinner menu looked good so I came back with a friend and requested a table away from the door. Again, so loud that we could barely hear one another and had to shout the whole eve. The server did tell us that noise was a common complaint and that they plan to address it soon. I can't promise I'll go back because of this issue. You feel hoarse at the end of an evening.
The food and service was great! There was a table behind us that was very loud and obnoxious which made it difficult for us to fully enjoy our dinner.
Great location on the square in Newburyport center. Nice comfortable bar. Meal was a grew blend of flavors. The Brussel sprouts were amazing
First time there was Friday...dining with cousin and uncle...Weezy was awesome, the shortribs were great, and the martini was delightful. I will certainly be back!
Two of us had dinner and thought the menu and ingredients were inventive but not entirely successful. The panko crusted salmon was perfectly cooked and succulent, served on pearl barley (an unusual choice but very good) with carrots and turnips and pear slices. The pears were a nice sweet fresh contrast to the fatty fish and mild barley but the carrots and especially the turnips added nothing in terms of flavor or texture: substituting a citrus fruit or sauce would have improved the dish. The tea smoked duck was good, but we weren't asked how we wanted it cooked and it was slightly overdone. We thought the use of almost black pottery plates was peculiar: the food did not look all that appetizing on black and the swirls in the plates made it difficult to cut the duck. Although there were some misses on the food and presentation, we thought the tastes were good. The worst part of the experience was the extremely high level of noise, so much so that we could not have a conversation. Dinner was not at all relaxing because of the noise and we did not linger for coffee or desert. Because of the noise it's not likely that we'll return.
Food was absolutely delicious! A great lively spot for a twosome.
Fantastic evening with great ambiance, terrific service and excellent food
Our first time to west row. Food and service were outstanding. The noise level was a bit loud but I think they plan to address the issue. Would highly recommend.
Like the food and drinks at West Row, and the service is good; However, it is very noisy. My husband
wears hearing aids and is unable to hear the server. We will dine here if it is just the two of us but
will not go with a bigger party. Loved eating outdoors during the summer. Have mentioned the
noise each time we've gone here and get the same answer every time: "we're working on it".
Specifically asked to make sure they checked us in to our reservation and got home to an email from open table saying we didn’t show up
The flatbread was just okay, but the Farro that was with the chicken was excellent
Bathrooms extremely clean
2 members of our party arrived a few minutes early and were given a table - but it took a long time for a server to ask if they wanted something. Otherwise, the food was good. It’s very loud when the restaurant is full which makes conversation difficult.
Disconnect between our waitress and the kitchen. Table of 4 and 2 orders were wrong. They took both away and when after 1 came back correct, it needed salt badly and the waitress was nowhere to be found. The 2nd order was shrimp tacos which took then the better part of 20-25 minutes to get a new order. It was obviously they were not expedited like they should have been. The waitress finally showed her face blaming the kitchen and when I mentioned the lack of attention she came back with a bad attitude and very abrupt answers. Bad experience all around and the food when we got it was not worth it.
This was our second visit to West Row and we will be going back soon. The brunch menu is creative, trendy and modern. The Lunch menu is equally great; the burgers are awesome and the calamari is really, really something worth getting.
We have only eaten outside in the café, which is perfect for a summer day in Newburyport, plus the Locust Trees provide shade while allowing just enough sun through. The flower boxes spilling over into the courtyard only add to the experience.
Lastly this is perhaps the best restaurant in Newburyport, which is a great town that is close, but "away" at the same time.
One of the most consistently good restaurants in Newburyport!
Overall a very good time. One meal was incorrect. Fish taco should have been cod but was shrimp, luckily no allergy. Although the server was gracious and offered to reorder, we declined (the order was put correctly into the kitchen, so perhaps someone else also had the wrong meal). It was not overly busy so not sure what happened.
I will go back again since it is convenient.
Decided to try West Row to celebrate a friend's birthday. We had reservations but lucked out with an outdoor table. Great atmosphere on the patio especially in the nice weather. The wine selection is great! The menu could use more choices as we had some picky eaters in the group. Sadly, our waiter was stretched thin and not very attentive. We had a very long dining experience. Overall the food was good but the service could use some upgrades.
Very young waitress seemed new to role served our salads and meals at the same time meal was cool when we ate it and the steak special was not a good cut very fatty. This was my second time and I brought friends and was very apologetic to them . I think if I should go back it would be lunch only.
The bartenders are amazing... one of the pasta dishes was a Little gloppy.. but come to find out they are taking it off their menu...great vibe... a little noisy... but love it!!
It was a little over priced. We got the Kona crusted rib eye which was just okay. At $38.00 it was average.
Overall, the meal and service were very fine. The noise level makes the experience less desirable -- not a deal breaker, though. The pork disk is outstanding.
Service was kind but very slow. Took about 20mins to put in drinks. Very loud inside. Hard to have any conversation. Ordered a ribeye medium rare. Came well done, no steak knife. For a 38$ steak they should be more attentive and the quality should be at least on par with what we can do at home.
There was no check in after food was served or opportunity to make fixes. Never even came back to see if we wanted a second drink. Again the server was nice but didn't even give a name. They were not even half full yet. The place looks nice but unfortunately we had a very poor experience.
This was our second time at West Row, and like the first time, the food was excellent. We were both in the mood for something light, so I had the quinoa salad with grilled salmon added and my dinner companion had a spinach said with steak tips added. Both were good sized and delicious. I also had the cucumber cosmo, which was a nice twist on a cosmo. It was a slow night, so it was not noisy. We will be back!
Food was good but the noise was so loud that it was extremely unpleasant. Would not go back here again.
We were a party of 6 on a Saturday night. The restaurant wasn’t busy yet. We were seated right away. The food was very expensive for what we ordered. The burgers were tasty but overdone ( we ordered medium rare and they came medium well) the fries were limp and room temp. The waiter never came back to refill our waters. We had one person who needs a gluten free meal- I can’t say the waiter was very helpful. The kitchen could not modify a meal that she had asked about. It was extremely loud. We won’t go back.
They are still working out the “kinks.” With a full restaurant it is quite loud...at least for us.
Our first time here and it exceeded our expectations greatly. It’s a place we will frequent again & again.
We had a very pleasant and delicious meal there. The only drawback was one very loud woman at the bar -- however the manager came by our table and apologized and said that they were about to install new materials in the restaurant that would considerably help keep the noise level down. The cocktail menu was interesting and I had a delicious "cosmo" using cucumber infused vodka. We shared a grain salad that was very good and I had the salmon and my friend had the steak tips, which were both excellent. The salmon was grilled and was accompanied by julienned vegetables and very tasty asian-flavored sauces.
Birthdays.. everyone was so nice and accommodating.. even the other patrons!
Perfect spot for a quiet meal. The view lends itself to watching the world go by, even on a rainy Saturday.
At West Row the food was fine, but not exciting. The service was very good but the restaurant is so loud conversation is a struggle.
Food was good but service was not. Restaurant was not at capacity and yet waiter was not attentive at all. Took over 20 minutes for us to receive our check after informing him we were ready for it.
