Originally built as a farmhouse for Link House Farm, one of the three farms which made up early Amble, the pub is one of the oldest buildings in the whole of the town! Records dating back as far as 1842 show that the farm was owned by a Mrs Maria Wellwood - a possible explanation for the pub's name today! Our traditional pub classics are expertly crafted from our seasonal menus and the bar is crammed with local ales and tipples to tempt any taste buds. Using the most seasonal ingredients and decadent flavours, there's a dish for every desire. We didn’t get the table that was reserved for us. My wife was served a tonic water on arrival and the waitress offered to put it on our tab. When food was ordered we paid. We were sat at a very tight table to the right of the door. We decided to eat our food and go. Thinking we had paid for everything, when my wife paid at the bar, we left, to be stopped and told we owed £2 for the tonic.

Went for Sunday dinner. The service was very well organised. It was good to have a choice of the size of plate that you wanted. The small plate was perfect for myself and my partner. The food quality was very good. All the food was nice and warm. Would go again.

We travel around the North East for Sunday dinner and this is by far the best carvery. Everything has so much taste especially the veg. Plenty of choice with 7 veg plus mashed potato roast potato, stuffing balls and Yorkshire pud plus choice of meats.

A bit confusing to start with as to how the carvery process worked, was soon explained though. They were busy as it was women’s World Cup final day. Food was lovely, quick easy process. Needed another chair fir our table and it was quickly brought our. Overall a very pleasant experience

We love a carvery and choose Wellwood as it was rated highly, service was swift, i haf the beed which was delicious choice of vegetables was good however the yorkshire was burnt on bottom so couldnt eat it all (not to much of an issue). Mashed potato was worst ive ever had not sure if it was left uncovered so was hard on the top and i couldnt even describe the taste, turnip was bland, cauli cheese was lovely as was gravy My partner had pork and said it was lovely but agreed on veg unfortunately and wasnt offered a yorkshire pudding. For the price of the small v large i would have expected a larger plate as only difference I could see was plate size and given it is a carvery you can go back as many times as you like for veg?? Friendly staff Food was OK Drinks reasonably price Would we return - yes due to quality of meat and veg issues can be resolved

Booked for Sunday Dinner nearly a week in advance plus another family group decided to join us so you were well aware we were coming. 10 adults and 4 children expecting dinner at 5.30 to then be told on arrival that the menu was limited to only the carvery and accompaniments. No Starters, Mains, none of the Desserts which required heating or cooking eg crumble, sticky toffee pudding. No children's meals at all ! Carvery consisted of the end piece of both gammon and beef, some pieces of chicken which appeared at the last minute and a reasonable piece of pork. Accompaniments were very dried out as they had obviously been sitting on the warmer for some time. As a qualified Home Economist of nearly 40 years experience it was more than obvious to me that the kitchen did not want to have to prepare or cook anything as they were at the end of service - the two gentlemen who we had seen behind the servery were out of whites and sitting having a drink within 15 minutes of serving us. I feel we should have been told in advance that we were booked in at the end of service and food would be VERY limited. As a visitor to this area this was extremely disappointing. I never have posted anything on Trip Advisor but I fully intend to share this experience because I feel visitors to your establishment for food should be made aware of a potential disappointment and I also feel so strongly about it that I intend to send a copy of this to Northumberland Tourist Board. Our first visit to the Wellwood Arms. From walking through the door, we were attended to immediately by young friendly staff that couldn't do enough to make us feel welcome. Our table was offered exactly on time of our booking preference. The Dining area was very clean and well presented. The organisation of how people were offered up to choose their meals was excellent. No queues so it meant that once you'd chosen your meat selection, you helped yourself to the vegetables on display. The vegetables along with sauces and gravy were replenished regularly so they were always fresh. The meal itself was excellent.

We visited this place 11 months ago and it was fine but I'm sorry to say since our last visit it has gone downhill, I ordered fish and chips which came very quickly I have to say , but it was a case of hunt the fish , plenty of batter but very little fish and what there was it was poor quality, we won't be returning there any time soon if ever I'm sorry to say .

Food was Look warm and didn’t look the best there was no roast potatoes ready when we got called to go for are carvery guy said he would bring some over when there ready I had finished my meal when they did arrive and when my partner cut one open it was hard we complained and was given a full refund We won’t be returning

We enjoyed the homemade pub grub with the best homemade chips! Our Son has a severe nut allergy, the Chef was reassuring and informative to his needs. Very welcoming and attentive staff.

Too noisy for us in the bar area. Not allowed in the restaurant as we were accompanied by our well-behaved dog. Asked to move to the quieter bar area but were told it was fully booked. When we had eaten and were leaving the quieter area had only 2 people in it, so the reservations must have been for later. A shame as the food was very good.

We stayed at the Wellwood Arms hotel so decided to have our evening meal there. We opted for a main and a dessert. We chose the outdoor reared sausages and mash with peas and Yorkshire pudding followed by strawberry crumble and custard. The sausages tasted good but seemed to have been deep fried. The Yorkshire pud was so hard it was impossible to cut until it had been well soaked in gravy! The peas were hard and dried up, the mash was okay. The strawberry crumble was awful. It was strawberry pie filling with crunched up granola on the top and was cold! Neither of us ate it, it went back to the kitchen and that was the last we saw of it or anyone else. We paid £5.95 each for it and were not even offered an alternative. All in all not a great food experience and we decided to forgo the breakfast and went to a local cafe

I can not really give a rating for our experience, we booked a table for two in the bar as we had 2 small dogs for a Sunday lunch however we did not realise there was a football match on at the same time. However as the bar was so busy I eventually got to the front and asked for our reserved table , the girl behind the bar disappears for a couple of minutes then tells me our table is no22 around the corner, we make our way to the table where two guys where sitting explained this was our reserved table at which they moved no problem, so me and the wife with two dogs sat on a table for two in the middle of around twenty fellas ready to watch a match on a giant screen 10ft away, customer service and forethought was bad, we left with empty stomachs. Probably is a nice place to eat just no organisation

Went to Wellwood Arms for Sunday lunch. We had the carvery and I must say it was first class. A great choice of meats and a good mixture of vegetables. Although it was extremely busy, the service was spot on. Would definitely return in the future!

Our server was lovely and friendly. There were a good number of items which were unavailable on the evening we dined, which was not great. Even mash was not available 🤷🏼‍♀️ this was due to it being a transition period between menus apparently. This was very disappointing. Better planning needs to be put in place so that customers are not disadvantaged due to operational problems. Overall the food was fine, but by no means the best we sampled in the area during the week or even the best value. There is a lot of competition out there!
