Beautifully arranged surroundings, and a favorable Free Kids Meal option. However, the portions were very small. We left still hungry. We did not have any seafood, which may be a bit different. We also had three children with us and the vegetables with the kids meals were deeply appreciated. Clean, beautifully decorated surroundings. Just skimpy portions.
Dressed oysters were good, but arrived slowly and were not very hot. Sizzling shrimp ere great. Service was attentive.
Went for the Monday night special, $9.99 lobster. Had an idea what to expect, but was disappointed that the lobster was over cooked that there was barely any meat in the claws, tail was small and dry.

Food and service were great. It was a quiet Monday afternoon. Hope they are able to
attract a lot of customers as the restaurant is big and can seat many. Will be nice when
the weather is good as outdoor seating looks fun!
Oyster house....with no fried oysters? Oysters served on beds of salt? Calamari was deceiving, more like fish sticks. No real wow factor. Decor feels like hospital white walls. Server was nice, but we didn't go to eat the server.
We had a really nice brunch - the food was tasty and nicely plated. We sat outside and we had great service. Nice looking menu - I’ll definitely go back

Very small portions for the price. Good HH and daily specials, I’d say stick with those. Oysters were good, well shucked, but spendy, over $3 each and some are the smallest oysters I’ve had. Go for “buck a shuck” elsewhere for best value and quality. Good atmosphere, feels like it should, an oyster bar/cafe/cocktail spot. Employees were all pleasant.
Great service, delicious food and reasonable portion size. Lots of variety and oyster selection even for non oyster eaters. Had a great time. Will be back!
This was our first visit to Ways & Means and it was outstanding. My wife and I had a Valentines lunch date and it was perfect. My wife ordered the Blackened Ahi Salad and I had a Half Dozen Oysters and The Ahi Poke. All of our dishes were very good.
The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean and had an inviting atmosphere.
We are looking forward to returning for dinner.
We were quickly greeted and seated. Michael, our server, greeted us and brought us water. We placed our orders and food came up quickly. We had ordered the steak and avocado salad, steak medium rare, with the dressing on the side. Unfortunately the salad came out dressed and the steak was well done. The salad was OK dressed but Michael had the chef make up another batch of steak which came out pink and juicy. The food was delicious and Michael was a great server.
Great service. Not impressed at all with mixed drinks but the food was great.
Oysters very good.
Other foods should be for healthy people.
Oysters were good. They were out of 4 of their oyster selections, so that was the only disappointment.
We were there at 6pm on a Thursday and they only had 3/6 of the oysters on the list available and no IPAs on draft. The oysters overall were good from BC and the other ones were sub par. We had one oyster on the plate that only had the foot on it. There was no salmon left and the steak we ordered for medium rare was well done. The waitress was very nice at least...
We had lunch. It was early and quiet. At a different time I expect it is hopping and fun. The oysters were baked to perfection, and the chop salad were terrific; the salad was lightly dressed, healthy! My friend's salad looked to have great croutons and parmesan.
Food took forever for a tapas bar. Over priced for tapas bar. Not a good experience for the menu $. Service was really bar. Waitress had 1 other table besides mine and spent most of her time talking with a man at the bar. Felt as if it was not a inviting place to go to.
Definitely sit in the bar so you can take advantage of the happy hour. Everything was delicious, especially the mimosas!
Food was awesome, the atmosphere was cool, and the music was great. The service was a little slow when we were there, but it didn't detract from our overall experience.
The original Ways & Means that opened (and closed) in Orange, California several years back, was located in an former Coco's restaurant space. In spite of its cramped quarters, it pulled off a nice, supper club feel with a nice cold bar for fresh seafood, pretty amazing bar program, and a great menu that contained a number of classic dishes like beef Wellington.
This W&M is something that belongs in an airport food court. Limited seafood, farmed salmon, generic cocktail & wine program, and pretty uninspired mains. To make matters worse, they say it's tapas-style, which in modern restaurant-speak means mid-sized pricing for small quantities (e.g. $12-14 for a plate that would be $8-10 in a traditional format restaurant.) This is the same obnoxious pricing formula that's been adopted by many newer restaurants because it builds higher margins into the menu in the guise of giving the diner "more choices."
Im not sure how I feel about this place. There were no customers when we got there, the place was empty.
We were seated right away and service was good. However.. they ran out of all IPAs on tap. Given there were only 3 or 4. Oysters were fresh and very good. clam chowder was not good, a little too sweet and too much bacon. Had a good selection of small plates to share.
The service was a little disjointed at first, but picked up during the meal. The food was good, seafood fresh, and we were pleasantly surprised to learn kids eat free from the kid’s menu. Great casual place to take the family!
Fun, festive vibe that’s also good for date night. Our servers and the GM went far to ensure we had a great date night. Really like their small plates approach to build a meal no matter what your hunger level is. Love their selection of oysters and good cocktails too. The lobster bisque was really yummy and the lobster roll was satisfying too. A great place to hang out pre or post movie as it’s right next door. Thank you!
Maine lobster Mondays are pretty cool! And we enjoyed the oyster selection.
Used to have a great selection of fresh seafood. These are no longer on the menu. Very disappointing.
Great find in Bridgeport Village - cannot believe it's taken this long to get over here for OYSTERS!!! We were in on a Monday early evening - place was quiet, even with the Seahawks game on (this is a good thing). Tried all the oysters - all fresh and tasty, great presentation. Will be back on a regular basis!
Its a pretty average place. Not a very comfortable atmosphere in my opinion. It was bright inside (and I dined at night) and the seating was wood chairs and tables, so no cushioning except for a couple half-booth half-table seats. Value was pretty average. Nothing really remarkable about the place. On a positive note, it was very clean-looking
The servers were very nice and the outdoor seating was great. The food was just okay, not great compared to the quality us Portlanders are accustomed to. The caesar salad looked a bit aged and was quite bland - even the shaved parmesan had no flavor. We added the vinegar that came with the oysters to give the salad more flavor. There were 4 of us, one of whom ate little, and we spent around $200 for dinner but did not leave full. No dessert either. The one awesome thing that makes Ways and Means stand out from every other restaurant in Portland is the$10 corkage fee! However, even that will make it difficult to go back. Too many other great places with way better value.
"Ways and Means" offers much more than a typical oyster bar. Full service bar and the never-ending mimosas with Sunday brunch are offered in a variety of flavors, blackberry/orange mimosa is delicious. Our group of four enjoyed ordering many different small plates and sharing them. The wait-staff were knowledgeable and helpful. The lobster on brioche roll with mango slaw was very special.
The menu leaves you a bit hungry and the beer list is lacking for being in the PNW.
Not a lot of value for what you spend.
Our server, Erika, was FANTASTIC! The gentleman who seated us was very friendly as well. It was our first visit and we’ll be there again!
The food is sometimes not cooked all the way through. Service was very poor. No roll ups on the table had to ask many times for items. Simply a bad experience
Food was expensive for what you got, and what you got wasn’t worth the price. I don’t mind small plates but usually the means the food tastes great and is worth spending a bit more money. Service was good, very sweet waitress that was very attentive. Just an “eh,” experience. I doubt I will ever be back.
This was our second time here and based on this experience we will not be back. The food is decent but the service is abysmal. Our drinks took forever, our waitress only came to our table twice, once to take our order and once to bring the bill. I had to get water for us from the bar. Nobody asked how the food was or if we needed anything.
Food was excellent would return for that, but lacked in the Ascetics the tables look more like something that should be on a patio and since they have slots in them they are inclined to Harbor food. I would suggest maybe a glass or plexi top to prevent the problem staff was very pleasant
Interesting concept: small plates..adds up to a bit too pricy to get full. Waited 1/2 for a beer order and delivery! Way too long in our estimation, especially as they weren’t busy. Flavors good overall. Clam chowder was cold. Wait staff is numerous yet slower than molasses and impersonal. Probably won’t return though the food was pretty good, just nothing special.
My girlfriend and I came here to celebrate our pregnancies and enjoy some good seafood. We were very happy with the food as they were "sharing sizes". It was very delicious and good quality. The service was good, wine list was even better. I can't wait to come back here with my hubby to enjoy. The one and only thing I would criticize is cost. It's a little spendy considering we're at Bridgeport and not downtown at Departure or something. For the two of us with tip it was a chunk over $100.00.
Great fresh food and easy place to be with friends! There is one side of the restaurant that looks more fun. The space near the kitchen could use a little more decor to bring up the feel. Overall great place.
Food was pretty good. The service was terrible. The prices were about right.
