We came to Waypoint a couple years ago and had a great meal with excellent service. We had friends in town and decided to bring them in for a fun dinner. Sadly, this visit did not live up to the first. The food was good, but could have been better seasoned. Most disappointing was the service. We were not well attended to and twice the next course arrived before our table was reset. We also would have ordered at least one more round of drinks had a server checked on us.
Best baked goods ever. Truly exceptional
Another small plates restaurant. Doesn’t stand out from the crowd. As with most restaurants of this type, one ends up spending more money as the portions are half the size or less than a standard meal but the prices are only reduced 25%.
Lights too dim
Very excellent spot in Cambridge. Went for a birthday celebration and it was just perfect. Yummy food. Great drinks. Attentive staff. The flavor combos were surprising, but always tasty. I will definitely come back here.
Food didn’t meet the expectations. Crab fries were overcooked, sauce with lamb shoulder was tasteless and fish pasta was overcooked and extremely spicy. Drinks were also overpriced and didn’t live up to the quality and presentation a $12 drink deserves. Not going there again.
The food was good, but it wasn't "OMG, wow!!!" good, certainly not as good nor inventive as the prices would suggest, The service was friendly, but fairly slow. It's just not as inventive or enjoyable as their sister restaurant Alden & Harlow. And there are plenty of places to get creative seafood dishes that have better food, service, and ambience.
I was really excited when I first found waypoint because their reviews were fantastic. Our server was very sweet however the overall experience was underwhelming. The drinks were great but they had very cheap pours (I understand most cocktails are measured but there’s no reason for my drink to be two inches below the rim for $13/$14) , the oysters were fantastic (no complaints there) the food was mediocre and not what I expected after reading rave reviews from previous customers. (Small portions, bland flavors, no WOW factor) For the price that was paid, Ive been to plenty of other restaurants that make a $200 dinner worth it and this was not it.
We had a lovely anniversary dinner at Waypoint. The staff was friendly and ready to share their preferences for both dishes and cocktails. They were attentive but not hovering over us. It was wonderful. We will be back. Thank you!!
We always enjoy Waypoint. Everything we has was good. I'm not sure if it was special. Oysters perfect. Lobster cacio pepe good but not enough pepper. There was a good amount of lobster. Lump crab caesar salad good but a little boring. Tuna crudo on chickpea pancake was good quality tuna but not a particularly flavorful dish. Bread basket and seaweed butter always tasty. Wood grilled octopus OK but think I like their octopus pasta dish better. We loved having our favorite booth and such nice staff so it's an enjoyable evening even though it got very pricey for dishes that weren't our favorites.
We were a party of 4 and all really enjoyed the meal. The Lobster Cacio e Pepe was outstanding, but all the food was ordered to share and everyone really enjoyed every dish. The drinks were relatively disappointing compared to the food - they were ambitious but did not quite hit the mark.
My only real complain was that being seated next to the kitchen meant that there were piles of plates being banged around literally within inches of our heads, which was extremely loud. I will definitely go back and definitely recommend Waypoint, but would insist in future that we not be seated at the kitchen counter again.
Delicious food, fun drinks, great service and great vibe!
Great food and service. Very Good wine and beverage choices. Lively and casual. We loved it.
Waypoint is one of our perennial favorites restaurants in Boston/Cambridge. Consistently excellent service and food. Love it!
I was blown away by our experience. Absolutely amazing. The restaurant went above and beyond for a very special evening. Couldn’t be happier. The food was incredible! Really impressed.
The lobster roll is really small and not extraordinary enough to specifically get (especially for how much you pay). Portion here is ok. Go for the other dishes or even the pizza. Oysters were good.
Dishes were inconsistent, but Maine lamb shoulder was very good. Service was indifferent, but pleasant enough. Strange vibe to the place
I absolutely loved the plate concept! For a part of 2, we got 5 different plates. So fun to graze!
Great food, wonderful and accommodating service, gorgeous views: What more could one want for a dining experience? I keep coming back for good reason!
Excellent food and great ambience. Very well situated/close to the Marriott Cambridge.
We are from out of town and went for lunch for my birthday on the recommendation of Mike Happel. It was outstanding. The dishes were all gourmet style, and unique, and the service and atmosphere were delightful.
We sat at the bar and, admittedly, we were engrossed in conversation. However, we barely got acknowledgment from any waitstaff and often had to ask for more drinks or to take a food order. I thought the food was OK at best, and other things were simply average. Unfortunately, I don’t remember a single stand out item.
I flew in from LA with high expectations for this new seafood restaurant in Cambridge. I am sorry to report that any pretensions this restaurant may have to be a shining new beacon of fine dining are grossly exaggerated. Those flocking to this restaurant are obviously overwhelming its ability to deliver. Service was glacial and inconsistent. Dishes came and went without accompanying wines. Crab french fries were great but kiss goodbye to anything other than an a dollop of crab louis dressing sans any crab. The fish and chips was a small 4 ounce bit of sautéed fish with a miserably overcooked and oily bit of chips. There are at least 500 restaurants in Boston that could deliver a better prepared menu of seafood dishes. Shade your eyes and don’t be enticed by the glitz of the slick improvements to this space. There is no food worth these prices there!
This place is overpriced, pretentious and the food was a disappointment. I got lamb shoulder which was mostly fat with almost no meat. It came with what they called avacado raita in a container that held about 2Tbsp. There was nothing at all to nibble with our drinks before the dinner was served. No bread or anything else. The service was adequate but I never felt that I was in a high end place. I could go on about how badly I felt about this meal, but the other two people that I was with are going to write their own reviews about how unhappy they were about the experience and the food.
They were out of a number of items and it was early in the evening. They also put a lot of dressing on the salad when it was requested to be on the side.
Fantastic meal! Had a great time and great service!
Our server, Molly, was terrific. Have never had a bad dish at Waypoint before, but this visit was not without flaws.
The Good: The oysters were delicious and a great deal at $1 a piece. Everyone loved the smoked bluefish, and the Bloody Mary was also delicious.
The Disappointing: The clam pizza was overly salty as a result of too much parmesan cheese--couldn't even taste the clams. The emmer casareci lacked something to balance its vinegar content. We only took one bite each and decided to take it home to salvage the dish with a touch of cream to lessen its sourness.
wish the warm pastries were heated and not reheated this morning. But I dont need to eat so many sweets lol. Great time, excellent service! great food!
It was fantastic! The brunch menu is second to none, and the service was outstanding. We’ll definitely be back!!
The place wants to create an ambiance, so lights are kept low, but it's impossible to see the menu. People are using their phone's flash lights to read it. The food is good, but the portions are tiny. The target demographic is 20-something (the music selection supports it), but it is pricey.
Always the best! Great food, very innovative menu.
Great venue for location, halfway between Central and Harvard Squares. Menu features innovative combinations of flavors and textures, a good pub atmosphere.
It was fun night of celebration. Oysters and grilled octopus were great. Also loved my seafood pasta. The crab Caesar salad was somewhat problematic. The two things were both good but the salad dressing overwhelmed the sweet crab meat. Clam cakes were really clam fritters. Enjoyed the evening as waitstaff was very welcoming.
Three shrimp cocktail in a serving on a large bed of ice for their prices is ridiculous. Same with serving size of crude- ridiculously small.
I felt the food was overpriced and the waiter recommended horrible dishes. We didn’t enjoy the food and couldn’t believe the prices. Can go to much nicer restaurants for cheaper. Won’t be back
Pita bread was raw and melted chocolate on dessert was burnt. Too pricey for bad food.
We had a great time at Waypoint. The food was delicious and the staff was attentive to our needs for a quiet table as we were dining with my grandmother.
An unexpected treasure! Exciting food choices even for a gluten/dairy free diner! Delightful wines, and a lovely evening!!
A limited lunch menu, lukewarm food, and mediocre servers made this one of the less distinguished Cambridge lunches I have had.
Wow!! Good ambiance. Great service. Crudos to die for!! This place just keeps getting better and better.
