Chef Michael Scelfo of Alden & Harlow welcomes Waypoint, his second Cambridge restaurant. Delicious raw unusual fish varieties, imaginatively prepared. With Little Donkey less than a mile away, there are now two way-beyond-sashimi practitioners on Massachusetts Avenue between Central and Harvard Squares, whereas most US cities are lucky to have one. It would be helpful to have explanations in English of the fish varieties for those who do not know their Japanese names.

The only disappointment on my first visit is with the frightful oversaltedness of the pasta with uni and egg. Fortunately the salt (both added salt and one of the ingredients, unnecessary in my view) somehow sank to the bottom and left the delicious sea urchin and egg, and their surrounding pasta, relatively unmolested. But it was the final taste, and it rather stunned my brain. As the film censors used to say, "without redeeming artistic merit". Have your cooks lay off the salt, please, Mr. Executive Chef, you are great but have an equally great hubris. And be much less liberal with the oil; the amount that accumulated at the bottom of my bowl could not have been necessary either to prepare the pasta or to ensure its delicate (once liberated of the salty and oily gunk) flavour.

The draft beers are, possibly by design, rather pedestrian relative to their styles. Better ones are on the bottle-and-can list. Most are brewed in the US but few are from New England. Meanwhile, much better examples are available from local breweries (such as Mystic in Chelsea) or Europe.

Wonderful food--a great special-occasion restaurant. My daughter first went there because she noticed that every time she walked by, everyone looked so happy. We joined in the happiness on our visits.

This has become a go-to for dinner with friends, work dinners, small groups, big groups. Incredibly good service and delicious food. Especially recommend the wood roasted char belly -- ask them for bread to clean the bowl because you don't want to miss any of it. Always enjoy the small but interesting selection of wines by the glass.

Would just urge that you put blue cheese in the Cobb Salad. Or make it clear on the menu you offer it with ranch dressing.

Otherwise: the doughnuts were amazing, the carbonara was amazing, the brown butter pancakes were amazing, the oysters were amazing.

But the most amazing thing of all was the service - Amelia is a treasure, and I am sorry you are losing her.

I would have ordered more interesting items but my friend was less adventuresome. Have been there before. Interesting mix of flavors. Great absinthe craft cocktails.

The meal was good. Service was a little slow, and some of the small details were missed. For instance, we got a bottle of white wine suggested by the waiter. He promised us a cooler for it, it never came. Wine got a little warm.
The octopus app was good, but where’s the meat. Very small serving of the protein. The full branzino was incredible highly suggest. Great meal to share!

Food is simply phenomenal. You don't get shorted on portions and the elaborate flavors are all delightful and inventive. The same goes for the cocktails as well. My only complaint, if anything, was that the service could have been a little more attentive, as there weren't that many people there on a Wednesday night at 8pm.

I'm definitely looking forward to coming back to eat here again.

We were celebrating the first day of our retirement but hadn't told anyone when the reservation was made. After just mentioning it to the hostess, we were immediately brought two flutes of "bubbly" and that was just the beginning of a perfect celebration. We were delighted that the soup dumplings were still on the menu! Everything was delicious, our waitress was the best.

The food was excellent. The service was very good. I only gave 4 stars because the service was very slow, but it was Easter Sunday. They did apologize and bring a free appetizer, which unfortunately I couldn't eat because of my allergies, but it was a nice gesture. The Oysters were excellent, fresh and only half price on Sunday!!

Overall excellent food, creative outstanding cocktails and ambiance makes for a energetic fun night out.
Highlights- soup dumplings and blue crab pasta(big amount- should be shared- like everything)
Window seats with initially too much wind quickly solved. Disappointing snails dish was a bad choice.
We will be back again! Tx

The overall quality of the food and drink was very good. The pacing on delivery of food though created a less than desirable experience. It just seemed that everything came out as they were done, not in a deliberate, curated manner. Would still recommend though.

This may be my favorite restaurant. The fish and the vegetables are outstanding, the bar is great, the menu is wide-ranging and creative, and the staff is always helpful. Go with friends so you can enjoy sharing.
