Waterzooi Belgian Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We have had many times lunch and dinner at this restaurant for mainly the Mussels and frites which come in massive pots. Also the selection of Belgium beer is extensive with unbelievable imports that you don’t find in many Pubs. It is a lively atmosphere which can be noisy with the after work with a young energetic crowd. Outdoor seating can be great place to sit if you want to remove yourself from the noisy inside bar and dining room. My favorite place for Moules on the Long Island and truffle fries
Went with the intention of having mussels and so that's what we had. For appetizers - one shrimp cocktail, the other was little neck clams - dozen and 6 blue point oysters. Both had the Provencial mussels which were quite small because I believe they might have been overcooked and were dry. The noise level was a bit to loud, so we passed on desert.
Amazing rose menu now for summer!! I had the short rib which was great and the other 2 members of my party each had steak. We all enjoyed our meals and the vibe at Waterzooi is so energetic. Louis is a great server, always gives you his full attention and recommends wine and cocktails. I had the Espresso Martini for dessert - it was delightful!! I can't wait to go back!
Date night with my wife while in town for business. We sampled a couple of oysters as appetizers. Initially my wife was less than enthusiastic, but really enjoyed! As the main course we each had a moules frites, a pot mussels. I had the Homard, my wife had the Pealla. They were both awesome!! Portions were enough for two people. The Moules come with a side of fries that were also excellent! Fried twice. Last, they have about 100 beers. Highly recommended Waterzooi!
3 couple dinner. Went on recommendation of a waiter at Mill Pond House in Centerport as well as co workers from Garden City. Great beer selection. Great appetizers. Unique mussel pots. Great homemade desserts. Only issue was that it got very noisy as we approached 9pm. Cement ceilings and arch ways similar to subway and sounds echo so you had to increase volume and really listen to those at table. Other than that highly recommended.
Our waitress, Stephanie, was surly. The beer was served with a head that was 1/3 of the glass. The manager walks around with an IPad to check how long a table will still be there, which makes you feel that they can't wait for you to leave. The waitress practically dumped my dessert plate I front of us. I would still recommend the food and hopefully you will have a different server.
Usually go for lunch, but this time did dinner. Restaurant was packed & this was a Tuesday evening! Very, very loud, but good vibe & we enjoyed ourselves. Food was excellent. Mussel mania menu is a really good deal & my husband swears they have the best hamburgers. Last but not least the Belgian Triple chocolate cake is fabulous!
Waterzooi is one of our favorite restaurants. Especially if you love mussels, you will enjoy yourself at this restaurant. It is food with a Belgian flair. There are lots of choices, seafood, steak etc., but they are known for their mussel pots. The mussel pots are large and filled with mussels in a variety of sauces.....lobster, farmhouse ale with bacon, fra diavolo etc.... we like them all! We usually get the lobster croquettes as an appetizer....delicious! The chocolate mousse with whipped cream is a yummy dessert! It is busy, especially on weekends...best to make a reservation. It tends to be noisy, but that's part of the atmosphere! There is a rear parking lot so it's pretty easy to find a spot.
Always enjoy the prefixed menu. The mussels are delicious and plentiful, the mayo for the fries is very tasty. I have to say the night we were there the noise level was tremendous. People were screaming at each other like I've never experienced in a restaurant. My ears rang til the next day. I don't know if it's like that every night, as I only go occasionally, but it was a lot.
We traveled 1 1/2 hours, each way so that we could have dinner at Waterzooi. This was our second time there, and although we enjoyed the food very much I do have a few complaints.
The tables are so close together, that the waitress had to lean over my husband so that she could help me plate the first layer of the mussels. Second, the noise level on a Saturday night is deafening and we weren't able to talk to one another ( we had previously been there on a Thursday night).
My last complaint is that when my husband asked for another cup of coffee, for both of us, the waitress told him there are no free refills.
We didn't share food , as many others did, we had drinks, and we each had a dessert. I find this very odd, given that we eat out at least three (3) times a week.
Pictured here are our desserts. A second cup of coffee was definitely needed, but on principle I wasn't going to pay another $5.00 for two cups of coffee.
Is paying for a second cup of coffee a usual occurrence on Long Island? It certainly isn't something that happens in Westchester or in any of our travels.
With my husband ❤️ Love this place - Went out of my normal mussel pot and did the beer tasting three course and was not disappointed in any part of it! So tasty and was so full and still enough to take home for my father in law to try! Scrumptious and great service - even the noisy atmosphere is just not bothersome here - Love its energy!
Attentive service. Extensive menu. Server was very knowledgeable. One meal was cold, which was addressed immediately. Desserts were a bit pricey. Very loud and had a hard time hearing the people at my table. Were able to take our time as no one was rushing us out. Plenty of parking available. Yes, I would go back, but perhaps try for a table outside. This is not a run of the mill restaurant.
great time out with friends we haven't seen in a while up from fl. unfortunately to noisey to have a conversation. But the food was great as always. The servicer was friendly and explained everything to those who were never there before. he fried calamari was tender and not to spicey just the way I like. Will be back again maybe either earlier or later than the dinner hour so we can talk while we eat and drink!
