Waterstreet Cafe & Bar Ratings and Reviews
Food was excellent but Server was slow to take our order then forgot to place it and our food was delayed. Many sitting around us who were seated after us were served well before us. They did provide a complimentary appetizer while we were waiting but no explanation for the delay or an apology.
We were eating an early dinner as we had just flown in from the East Coast and our bodies thought it was 8 pm when it was only 5 pm in Olympia. The place was empty at that early hour, so we sat at the bar for a drink and decided to have our dinner there as well. Haley was our bartender and server, and she was super. She knew the menu and was so pleasantly efficient.
We had some excellent steamed clams in garlic butter, a nice soup and beet salad, and our entrees were some great meatloaf and prawns and grits. A truly superior dinner for a couple of road warriors. Haley's personality was the difference though in making this not just a great dinner but a memorable one.
We have been dining at Water Street Cafe since they opened. My meal on this occasion was very disappointing. I ordered the Halibut, which came with Lobster Mushroom (whatever that is), and since I don't like Lobster, I asked for rice instead. The fish was over cooked, so much that I had to use a knife to cut through the outer crust of the fish. It was served with really skinny asparagus, and they were either too woody to eat, or they were charred to the point of just tasting like char, not asparagus. In fairness I will add that my husband had a shrimp dish which he said was really good. I think Water Street has gotten way over priced for their quality (fish was $38). Tried to leave a review on their web site but there isn't a way to do it, not even an email to send to the manager. I did not want to send the dish back or complain because we were with a co-worker of my husband and didn't want to ruin the dinner.
We did a road trip to BC and had stopped at this place for dinner on our way there and back:) The food is really good and we were pleasantry surprised. I had their halibut special that was delicious and my husband loved the duck. They have a small happy hour menu and the food choices were great and prices even better. Loved the fried gnocchi. Nice selection of wine and cocktails too, we will definitely be back again when and if we are in the area.
Amazing Washington wine list, featuring top and hard to find wines at reasonable prices, plus a nice selection of other wines. They also had a very nice seasonal Rose menu of Rose from around the world at good prices. The menu is compact but there is something for everyone. The cheese course options are interesting, tasty and reasonable. Service was very pleasant, friendly and professional. Kitchen was a little slow, but the results were very nice. We had the beef tenderloin and the seared duck, both of which were nicely cooked and good sides included. The space is comfortable, with nice touches.
The Waterstreet has been a staple in downtown Oly for many years now. Ive had some mediocre experiences over the years, but the last two trips - especially my most recent were fantastic. The food and drink were solid and the service was great. The outdoor seating area itself is casual and nice, it's just a shame the only real scenery is the parking lot. But on a weeknight or weekend, it's not very noisy.
I've only been to this place a handful of times and usually the food is really good and service was fair. However, today wasn't the best service and food tasted less flavorful. We went during happy hour for the first time, starving and pretty much ordered everything on the menu since the menu was limited. Our server was slow and keep forgetting to refill water or bringing certain items requested such as lemons for water or utensil. We were seated outside, which was nice and it wasn't busy for the the server to be slow. No matter how good the food is, if service isn't good, it can leave a bad taste in your mouth. I will go here for dinner and not during happy hour.
Happy Hour Menu:
Fried Artichoke Hearts
Kim Chi Fries (DELICIOUS and my favorite)
The Waterstreet Bar & Café was a wonderful experience in Olympia, WA. The person at the door was outgoing & friendly. Service was outstanding and food was tasty and well presented. We were there on a business outing, but this is a great place for special occasion or meeting for a casual meal.
Went here for a late dinner, the weather was great and we sat outside. We can see above the table sitting across from us had a spider web that was collecting its meal for the month. Other than that, our food was flavorful and delicious.
Fried Artichoke Hearts
Prawn and Grits
Beef Tenderloin 6 oz (Medium Rare)
Seared Duck Breast (Medium)
2 Chocolate Torte
2 Spiced Molten Cake
Banana Almond Gelato
Very noisy restaurant with kitchen also open to restaurant. Service excellent. Food menu was different with several options. Bar menu was priced very well and would return to eat there rather than restaurant. Could be great spot during summer months when eating outside on patio is an option.
We were six for brunch on Saturday, March 18. We each had a different order, and I believe we all enjoyed our meal. I enjoyed my tostada.
We had an exceptional server who was attentive yet not imposing; that was appreciated. I just wish I had remembered to ask her name.
Note: even with the music turned down, it was hard to hear...I think the room does not provide the best acoustics . It is a lovely restaurant, and I was proud to introduce it to my group.
The food at water Street is amazing. Can be a little noisy at times depends on the day of the week and the time of day. Service is always amazing. The food is a little expensive but I would not say it's overpriced considering the quality. The side room is always very quiet except for busy weekends great place to have dinner great place to invite friends great place for a date.
I moved to Olympia before Capitale opened across from Sylvester Park. I believe the owner of Capitale was one of the owners of your restaurant. Capitale and later Louisa's were the first of their kind in Olympia and were reminiscent of similar class act restaurants in Seattle.
I am not been to Waterstreet in a very long time and went on the recommendation of a co-worker . The setting and ambience are nice and quite different from what I remembered. The bar was very noisy the night I was there for my birthday. Our server was ok but not very friendly or engaging. The food was disappointing and neither my son or I really liked it. There wasn't the variety I'd experienced in the distant past. And so it was not very enjoyable at all.
