One of our favorite restaurants…
Beautiful sunset views with shades to block glare, but not view
Service was slow
The restaurant was not busy but service just was slow
No offer for another drink?
Nice place on the water. Go for the view but expect nothing more than mediocre food and service.
We had a pleasant night at the restaurant Friday night. The service was OK, but that’s what to expect in Ventura.
The corkage fee, which was not stated on any printed materials, was expensive at $25 per bottle
Especially when we had to pour our own wine…
Our servicer was great! Hosts do need to communicate more though with servers because we sat for well over 20 minutes without a server because it looks like they sat us before she got there.
Very beautiful location and a great and friendly staff that accommodated us and our two dogs. The food was great and our server was very attentive. Would definitely recommend and visit again. I enjoyed the shrimp lumpia and clam chowder.
waitress was wonderful; salmon cooked to perfection quiet atmosphere
cant wait to go back
Opentable allowed me to make a reservation for a Monday.. showed up to the restaurant only to find that they are closed on Mondays. Such a disappointment..
I had a reservation for 1:30, our order was taken almost 30 minutes later. When the waitress finally came around and asked what I wanted, I said “I don’t know, I was never given a menu.”
Orders were taken and she came back to say” sorry, we don’t have clean glasses for your ice tea, it will be a bit longer. “
The food was mediocre and the view wasn’t enough to make up for the experience. We then had to hunt down our waitress for the check. It really just seemed like no one wanted to be there. No need to return there, there are many other restaurants who genuinely care.
Came here for a birthday celebration and in making reservation notated the special occasion. Well had dinner and no birthday cake or anything. I know they were short staffed and trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but wanted dinner to be perfect for my partner. Fortunately, the food was great and the view was so nice and romantic.
We arrived at 6:02 for a 6:00 reservation. I had researched the time for sunset, which was 6:39. We were finally seated at 6:37. Service was fine, but the bread on my sandwich was burnt and inedible. When we got home, there was an email stating they had canceled our reservation, so we didn't even get our Open Table points.
The location is amazing our service was great we had to wait for our table even though we had reservations because they didn't have enough servers so we had to wait till they caught up on service. My husband said his halibut was good! I got the claim chowder and the wedge salad the soup was just ok but the salad was good if you like blue cheese which I do but it was little too much! It is loud in there and it was only half full but I love the ambience and would go there again to try something different!
Terrific waitress Kimberly made it even more special!
Great location looking at at the harbor. However during our meal the marine layer was really thick, still a nice atmosphere.
Service was a bit slow in some things and quick in others. It took a long time for my glass of wine to appear. Appetizers were out quickly but we didn’t have time to finish them before our entree arrived. Ordered a second glass of wine when I was halfway through my entree but I was totally finished before it arrived.
Food was very tasty and hot. There were some rather loud tables but that’s not on the restaurant, just people not being aware of themselves.
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant.
The location and view is great! If you are looking for somewhere to dine by the water - this is great. You have a beautiful view of the harbor and all the boats. There's outdoor seating and you can watch the sunset as you eat. The food however was so-so, definitely did not match the view. But other than that, the service was nice and I would go again.
I chose Water's Edge because I needed a place near the Marina hat would take a reservation, and have a dog-friendly patio. I had been to this restaurant when it was Rhumbline, but not since it changed management. The food had always been very good, and it was delicious this time as well.
I miss the basket of bread they used to bring out, and it seems they have a smaller menu and fewer servers. While the staff was friendly and tried to be efficient, there was often a long wait for water refills or extra drink orders. We were a party of 6, and it seemed the other party of 6-8 people on the same patio had much more attention to their needs than we did.
They definitely need more dessert choices than the single "signature cheesecake".
I would recommend Water's Edge to a friend, while stating the issues and exceptions I have stated above. The Harbor fee is a stupid surcharge, but I did appreciate the warning about it on your website.
Because there is a shortage of help, we waited a long time to sit down and get food and drinks. Some of the food was cold. I give the restaurant the higher overall rating because of the ambience sitting next to the harbor.
We had a reservation at 6:15 and our table wasn't ready when we arrived so we ordered drinks at the bar. They didn't have the brand of whiskey my mom requested. Our server and the bartender were both wonderful but the restaurant was out of parmesan and only had two desserts available, plain or mango cheesecake.
Clearly emerging from COVID. Service was slow and inconsistent. New menu with good selection but higher prices overall. Menu selections do not always include sides that now are offered separately. Kitchen is clearly still working on preparation and timing. Food came to the table slowly and cold.
Managers did come to the table and elicited feedback and were understanding apologetic.
I am going to be optimistic that they will be able to work out the kinks. We are going to give the another chance and hopefully upgrade our rating
The service was outstanding! Best we've had in a long time. The food is just ok. We went because there were scallops on the online menu but the real menu had changed a couple of days before. The halibut was good though. No bread or anything was offered. The ambiance was great, of course. It's pretty noisy after it fills up which makes it hard to talk. The manager was super sweet to turn down the music, which was also very loud. We will go back because we like to meet friends from TH and we live in SB so it's great. We probably will try sitting outside for a more quiet experience hopefully.
Food was very good, service was excellent, even though they are short-staffed, like the rest of the food service industry. Seated outside on their patio, watching the birds and boats go by...very relaxing. Their Gilroy Fries are not to be missed!!
We thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Food was very good, service was outstanding!
With great views and inviting space, I was hoping the service and food would offer an alternative place to eat in Ventura. Sadly, with cold crab cakes, flavorless steaks, and lackluster service, the price point didn't match the overall offerings. A woman constantly came over to verbally offer refills on water glasses that were already filled, the filet a flavorless and soaked in sauce, the used appetizer plates (empty) sat on the table the entire time even after the entrees arrived, silverware came much later AFTER the food arrived. Having spent $175 for two people (without cocktails or dessert) felt egregious given the quality of the food and subpar staff. It has so much potential; was sad they didn't take advantage of that.
The food was ill prepared. The halibut was dry- shoe leather dry, the asparagus was woody and chewy and inedible. The fillet mignon was ordinary and the side that we ordered were banal. A dish was forgotten- so in all the experience was NOT worth the cost and drive. We will not recommend this restaurant.
Beautiful restaurant with great views of the water. Our server Brian was very attentive and kind, and he knew the menu well. I had the salmon which was outstanding and my husband had the pork chop, which was one of the best I’ve ever sampled. We are definitely going back to try the steaks!
The views were really nice. We sat in the patio so it was nice but the food took long to come. We got 2 out of 4 meals and like 5-7 minutes later we got the other 2 meals. So the first 2 meals got cold as they waited for the food to come for the rest.
The food was okay. I felt it was more about the views than the food.
The pineapple mojito and the appetizer were amazing. I may go back but definitely wouldn’t order the Szechuan short ribs again the garlic mashed was really good.
Overall it wasn’t too bad.
food was below average to just ok. service was severely lacking. but the view was nice.
Food was disappointing. Expected better. El Capital salad had runny watery blue cheese dressing. Fried chicken sandwich was over breaded and fried. Very heavy fried.
Halibut and chips heavily and greasy battered just like the chicken sandwich
Beautiful view and cordial and efficient wait staff.
Really enjoyed our dinner out with friends. Food was good and view of harbor was outstanding. Ambience was pleasing
Food was outstanding especially the brussel sprout appetizer
We were treated like royalty. Thanks for taking such great care of us.
The location is outstanding. The door was good but not outstanding. We would go back knowing we will get good food with outstanding ambiance.
The view is amazing and service was great. The food was good but a little bland. Looking forward to coming back for dinner with my partner next time we’re in Ventura.
Brian was a great waiter and the rest of the staff was also friendly. Halibut was delicious, the Mac and cheese and shrimp fettuccine were ok. Chardonnay was delicious.
Great food and great views, definitely need a reservation, even for a Tuesday
Anna, our server, was fabulous! Informative & prompt.
Good was very good
Very enjoyable meal. We were celebrating a huge promotion at work and they gave us a free desert. Overall a great experience for a special occasion
Views and the drinks were awesome!
