Waterman's Restaurant is a cozy seafood restaurant overlooking the Galveston Bay. The views from here are absolutely stunning, and the food just makes it even better. It has an extensive bar that offers up an array of possibilities, while the abundance of available seating outside offers up a great opportunity to have healthy conversation with friends and family.
Waterman's Restaurant has a terrific low key ambiance and has been serving seafood to patrons for years. Consider ordering the salmon, which is grilled to perfection and served over a bed of rice, as it comes highly recommended by many. All of this and more is what makes Waterman's Restaurant such a special place.
Waterman's own rich creamy house made lobster bisque
Sauted gulf shrimp tossed in a buffalo wing sauce. Served with a side of ranch '
Our own dark roux based recipe with rice, shrimp, and Andouille sausage
Waterman’s was very good! We will go back if we are ever in Galveston again.
Napkins need to be cloth and presented at the table.. ordered a bottle of wine. The server just poured the wine without tasting first. Do not like that the bill was on an electronic device so you could not review the bill and no copy was sent to my email.... with all that said, the food was very good, but a few missed opportunities. If you want entrees in the mid $30 and up range you need to up your game.
Always wonderful food and service. Every single time!
Food and service were great. Also, the view was outstanding.
Showed up early for our night out. Bar down stairs was on point. Drinks were great and priced well. Storm came in and the mosquitoes also. went upstairs and had a great evening at the bar. Bartender Will was awesome. Food was amazing. Everyone must get the egg roll boudin!!! best we have ever had.
Food was just ok. But our friends Seafood Platter was cold! Waiter was horrible.
Even bill was incorrect.
Excellent food, service and ambiance. Really enjoyed our visit.
Wonderful service. Great waterfront location. Really enjoyed getting away from the usual bustle of Galveston
Food and service are mediocre. Haven’t eaten there in years won’t be back
Great food. Great views. Great service. I would recommend this place for any occasion. You will want to be sure and make a reservation.
09/06/2020, (8:15 reservation)
Everything was great even though there was a wait! The food was amazing. I had the Seabass and it was wonderful everything l expected and more!
When l first arrived l asked the hostess to purchase a Souvenir cup. She didn’t have the key at the time so l asked her if l could pick one up on my way out. She said sure! She had a great attitude and was very helpful.
When leaving l asked the hostess to purchase a Souvenir cup. She stated she still did not have a key.
She asked another server/manager/key holder for the key and she:
-paused looked at me rolled her eyes and exhaled loudly and said make it quick as she rudely handed her the key BUNDLE
-when the sweet hostess could not find the key after two tries she slammed her items down on the counter, snatched the keys from her and continued on her her rude banter stating she didn’t have all day
-then she said my husband is in the hospital l don’t have time for ANY OF THIS and she walked off and flung the door open on her way out..
THIS TOTALLY RUINED MY EXPERIENCE.
I would say the food exceeded my expectation and l am a foodie and l enjoy superb quality and expertise l experienced during my dining room experience, however, l was truly taken aback at the tacky and unprofessional manner this staff member of this fine dining establishment acted toward a customer wanting to patronize the establishment simply by purchasing a cup. I’m certain me more my colleagues won’t be back.
If l could give no stars l would, but that would not be fair as the hostess was simply amazing.
Awesome location on the water. Made a reservation for 7:45. Didn’t get sat until 8:30. It was super busy. There are two nice bars outside to wait at with one having live music. Bring bug spray if you plan on hanging out at the outside bars. There a tons of mosquitoes. Food was delish. Lobster bisque is a must. The coconut shrimp we yummy too!
Our reservation was at 7:15pm and we were seated at 8:10pm. They said OpenTable double booked their reservations. I wish is was an isolated incident but it happened to us on our previous visit. We only waited about 30min. We understand they are busy and due to limited capacity it makes it hard but they need to manage their reservations better. We've been going there for years and it's changed management several times. The ambience, service and food is great. The bread pudding was a little tough and previously it was always very moist. Flavor is still delicious. We will still eat at Waterman's, make reservations earlier and I'll keep ordering the bread pudding because I have faith they will perfect it by going back to the old recipe.
Great food. Felt bad that they had limited seating because of COVID on a holiday weekend. Very happy they were for their customers health and their staff.
Wonderful service and food was great. Always a must visit while in Galveston.
The hostess was extremely short and not too friendly. We love sitting outside, but side note if dining in the evening consider sitting inside due to the amount of mosquitoes. The restaurant obviously can not control this but just know if you want to sit outside consider going for lunch.
My family and I dined here for Labor Day Weekend. We were greeted by the hostess who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. We requested a table by the window so that we could watch the sunset and she accommodated our request. Our server’s name was Phil. He was nice and very knowledgable about the menu. We all four enjoyed our appetizers, drinks and meals. The service and food were outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant to my family and friends. We will definitely be back!
Great dining experience! Our server was extremely nice and had great dinner recommendations. Restaurant was clean & felt safe amidst covid.
Scenic drive from the "heart" of Galveston island. Don't arrive early, because they won't seat early.
Food was very good, especially the fish and chips and the shrimp kisses!!! Very unique "french fries" which were not quite potato wedges, but more "scoops" out of the potato. Wish I knew how they made them. Of course the fried shrimp was awesome too.
Has a local bar downstairs that has open-air view of the bay. Upstairs dining and bar is a more upscale experience.
Good place to watch the sunset while you eat. Servers were friendly and attentive. Food was ok, would have liked to see more variety on the menu from a seafood perspective. I would return if ever in Galveston again.
The food is amazing, the staff is young and tends to forget what you ask for or what is normal. We had to keep asking for more tea and had to ask for condiments. Salt and Pepper. I am not saying that is a bad thing, but someone that is in the hospitality would have delivered that to the table before we asked.
BUT THE FOOD WAS AMAZING.
Our table had grilled shrimp, seafood platter and blackened shrimp fettuccini Alfredo. Mine was the BEST you can't wrong with the Texas Pecan Crusted Snapper - over. the top great!
We need to remember next time we go to ask the waiter or waitress to give the cooks a message to not use the entire salt shaker on our food. Our food was hard to eat with all that salt.
Just what we were looking for. Perfect ambiance and delicious food.
Very disappointing. Had reservations for Saturday night at 7:15. Date night. My husband I go to Waterman’s several times a year and always recommend Waterman’s. Arrived at 7:15 and told it would be a 20 minute wait. That is okay. We went to hostess stand after 20 minutes to check. The folks in front of us had reservations at 6:45 and they were still waiting at 7:45 and had 2 reservations ahead of them. We were told we had 4 reservations a head of us. Covid regulations only allow 50% seating. We live and Dallas and always make reservations because an establishment needs to be able to regulate the 50%. The hostess and bar manager explained because of COVID they were backed up. Then minimize your reservations to regulate guest. Waterman’s had our phone number and could of called and told us they couldn’t accommodate because “open table” is overbooking. We were also informed they had several servers quit the night before. Therefore, we chose to leave at that point. I had high hopes for Waterman’s, but it will be a while if ever we return or recommend. Poorly orchestrated.
Our food was delicious, our waiter was very attentive, and the view of the sunset was perfect! Can’t wait to go back!
Our waiter was on day 4 so he was nervous and not quite prepared. He didn't have a clue what a Kettle One and tonic was and asked my husband several times if this was a cocktail from the drink menu. Ha! He was not familiar with the specials and had to ask for information several times. Probably could have used more training and maybe shadowed someone a bit more. We were cooperative but sort of frustrated. Trying to have a quiet dinner with friends we haven't seen in months due to pandemic. We will come back but on a weeknight when it isn't so crowded.
Our dinners were excellent. Seafood Platter and BBQ Salmon. Only downside was waiter face us peach cobbler instead of what we ordered - bread pudding. We didn't know until we got home
8:15 reservation, but we were at our table by 8:09. Our server, Jazrine, came to take our drink and appetizer order within minutes. Her attention level was exactly what we needed. Always timely with drink refills and subsequent course orders for the remainder of the meal, without appearing to hover.
The food quality and taste were excellent.
Would have rated the visit five stars, but I never saw the majority of the kitchen staff wearing masks. At least three or four were without masks at any given time. The food expeditor never had one on the entire time we were at our table.
We came for our first dinner out of the house since COVID, and I made a reservation the Tuesday before our Friday reservation. I called the next day to make sure we had a window seat in the main dining room. When we arrived we were told there was not a table, and they were sorry. They proceeded to put us in a 6 top table in the bar next to the window. We ended up deciding to eat at the bar since we were getting no where with getting a table and we did not want to ruin our one night out! Sheri made fantastic drinks at the bar. Another bartender took our order and unfortunately forgot our appetizers and served them after our meal. The food was great so we didn't want to make a fuss. We will definitely be back but you all need to work on the table situation when someone has a reservation.
My experience, dining at Watermans, was okay but nothing special. for the price one would expect "special."
Food and service are always great. Just make sure you know it is a little bit of a wait for a table
We were seated 25 minutes late, but with COVID spacing/cleaning, this was totally understandable. However, our entrees were never put in and the waitress came by and almost asked us how everything was and to drop the ticket just before she realized we were still staring at the app plates.
Overall, ok experience. Would return when the COVID craziness is over.
Even with a reservation we had to wait an hour. Poor management.
Most of the staff were not wearing masks or had the masks pulled under their nose. We asked to please pull your mask up when serving us. They had no regard for safety. Will not eat there again
It was our 35th wedding anniversary which I specified on reservation. We were seated by a table with a crying baby (we have grandchildren so lot opposed to kids) but not how we wanted to spend our evening. The salads had so much dressing on them we could hardly eat them. We ordered Jalapeño margaritas which are our favorite and we do like spicy but these burned our lips to even drink. I couldn’t finish mine. My stuffed shrimp were tiny shrimp with very soggy crab meat. Veggies were soggy. It should have been our beat meal while staying in Galveston but was by far the worst. It’s a neat ambience but I wouldn’t eat there again.
Food was outstanding. Definitely will eat here again!
The reservation was for 6:30 and we were not seated until about 35 to 40 minutes later.
Yummy dinner and a bottle of wine on a Saturday night with a gorgeous sunset. We sat inside at the bar and the ambiance was lovely.
This was our one big night out during pandemic vacation, and it was a failure. We requested patio seating at 6:30 and were not advised it's in full sun and hot. They were nice enough to move us inside. Our waiter was very nice but uneducated on wine and on the menu. We were seated near the bar on the 2nd level, 2 tables from the bay window. The A/C unit dripped on my husband the entire time. Crab cake (like others have said) is runny and loose. Very strange. Not good. Our Texas snapper entree was similarly bad. We eat seafood a lot and expected more from this place. The location, the decor, the ambience and the view are amazing. They just don't utilize it well. Work on your patio (especially with Covid around), your food, and educate your waiters.
