Waterman's Restaurant is a cozy seafood restaurant overlooking the Galveston Bay. The views from here are absolutely stunning, and the food just makes it even better. It has an extensive bar that offers up an array of possibilities, while the abundance of available seating outside offers up a great opportunity to have healthy conversation with friends and family.
Waterman's Restaurant has a terrific low key ambiance and has been serving seafood to patrons for years. Consider ordering the salmon, which is grilled to perfection and served over a bed of rice, as it comes highly recommended by many. All of this and more is what makes Waterman's Restaurant such a special place.
Waterman's is a very nice place with great views. The food is good, and its a nice place to take kids and friends. The weather was really foggy when we went, so we didn't get to enjoy the views like we normally do.
We had a larger party 10 of us. Everyone loved their meals, and drinks were great! Next trip to Galveston we will eat here. Sad we ate so late as the view over the water would have been amazing.
One of the cooks was wiping his nose on his sleeve,.,,My noodles were mushy, our chowder was warm.
I have been to Watermans multiple times and this was a disappointment. We booked in advance, and when we arrived there was plenty of empty tables. We asked for a table away from the kitchen and were told it was ‘fully booked’. They could have easily accommodated us at a different table as we were only going to be there for an hour as we had kids with us. The food was AWFUL. The coconut shrimp was supposed to come with a mango habanero. I was expecting some fresh mango. It was a bottled sauce. The alternative sauce was a plum sauce - it tasted moldy as it it was ‘off’. The kids pasta dish had hardly any sauce. Overall I was disappointed. The only good thing about the meal was the bread-basket’ before the meal which was hot and tasty. Watermans is going down hill and needs to do a better job or it will lose customers - especially those of us that come down to Galveston year round.
Both the food and service continue to be improving over the last couple of years. Service was very friendly and attentive, food was served quickly and was hot. Wedge salad was cold and ingredients fresh. My wife and I normally split a wedge salad and they split it for us and served it on separate plates (always a nice convenience). Texas Snapper continues to be one of my favorites. My wife had the fried shrimp and said they were excellent. Veggies side needs seasoning, was a bit bland. All-in-all a really nice dining experience with friends and family.
We booked on Open Table and discovered it was closed. Need to update info !
The Southwest Snapper is a unique dish that is our favorite now and we've eaten seafood all over the world!

Chicken tasted fishy, steak was just okay. Maybe seafood is better but didnt try it.
Service was poor. We made reservations for the evening based on reviews, scenery and food quality for a birthday celebration. Completely thumbs down on all. I am simply unsure how can you mess up pasta. Refill was offered if you had ice tea. Food was quite salty of course this can be subjective. I will be our First and Last visit.
Exceptional location, great views, customer focused staff, increible food selections
The food was good but the drinks and food were pricy.
We missed the sunset hour to dine at Waterman, which we believe was the busiest time and maybe the most attentive hour. Therefore, it was very quiet later in the evening. The waiter was not well trained in dealing with orders, customer service, and tone. He could not remember who ordered what with just 7 persons in the group. Asking at least 2 people, 5x what they ordered. Then proceeded to blame guests for ordering a dish, we knew we did not order.
The Red Snapper dish was the best on the menu, as staff mentioned, and it was pretty good. Most of the other dishes were too rich with butter and hard to ingest, especially the Texas Snapper. We will not return.
We own a house in area and have brought friends and family in past but this trip was a disaster. The waitress was very attentive but her support from kitchen on the quality of food preparation and presentation was a poor representation of your establishment.
There aren't a ton of nice dining options in Galveston so we figured this was a safe bet. When our waitress came we ordered a bottle of wine along with the crab cake, the crab stuffed mushrooms and shrimp cocktail as appetizers. The wine came relatively quick but we then sat there for 30 minutes before getting any bread or appetizers.... instead she brought the bread and all appetizers out together which was mid boggling since the shrimp cocktail had been sitting out and ready for at least 20 minutes (and you would expect the table bread way sooner as well). The shrimp cocktail was great but how can you mess that up... the other appetizers were basically covered in some sort of butter "gravy" that they called a crab sauce and I think I gained 10 pounds just looking at it. I would never order the crab cake or stuffed mushrooms again. We then shared a grilled fish entree that also included a ton of the crab sauce. If you want so-so comfort food and lackluster service you've found your place!
Fun view and gorgeous viewpoint for sunset.
The redfish was delicious!! Menu items are a bit pricey. Would like to see soup or salad included in the entree for the prices.
The temperature in the restaurant has yet to please. Freezing back in the winter when we went and very warm this time in August. Last two visits were uncomfortable.
Nice server but not attentive enough. Water glasses sat empty twice for long periods of time(even after we asked) and considering how warm the restaurant was, it added to being uncomfortable. (Our female server back in the winter was pretty inattentive as well and the place was almost empty.)
Also our fish choices were mixed up. My husband ordered redfish blackened with toppings. I got his blackened redfish and he got my grilled. We didn’t bother switching since his was covered in shellfish I could not eat. It was still delicious.
I want so badly to love this place as we have a west end home and restaurants are few and far between. But these little irritants of climate and below par service make me want to choose another place in the same price range.
Really like this restaurant on the bay. We always eat there when we go to Galveston.
The food was overall good. Shrimp cocktail. Grilled Snapper. The prices are insane for what it is however. Tourist prices for sure... I would look else where in Galveston.
I made reservations with special ideas. The reservation was not looked at because they attempted to seat us at a general table. Two appetizers of the crab-stuffed mushrooms and and shrimp kisses (rubbery shrimp) were blah. Main meal was the special which was snapper (this was good), and the broiled stuffed gulf shrimp. The best part was the bread pudding (except without the ice-cream). Our server was great, but I can't remember her name. Would not recommend this restaurant.
Good neighbor hood spot. No soap and scalding water in the ladies room was a huge minus
If you want a quick meal, this isn’t your place, but the food was great! The rolls (garlic knots) are incredible and the rest of our food was great too. We had kids and adults and everyone really enjoyed their food.
Great place to eat. I called for reservations and the hostess said it was booked until 8:30. I went onto to Open Table and was able to get a reservation at 7:15. Food was so good. The lobster bisque was the best we have had anywhere. My steak was seasoned so perfectly I didn't need steak sauce. The bread they bring to the table was so good I think we ate three baskets of it.
When we walked in there was a terrible smell coming from their bait shop. We almost immediately left. The restaurant was pretty empty, the food was ok, our server was good. The restroom was disgusting and the only water that game out of the sink was scalding hot.
Took my family here for a nice dinner. The view is spectacular. The service was great. Did not like most of the food regarding how was prepared. Some of the food was cold. The gumbo was awful!
Food was excellent!! So delicious an do huge portions. View was beautiful. Service was a bit slow, but you're at the beach... Not in a rush anyway.
First - fantastic service. Tied for first - fantastic food! And, the hot rolls - melt in your mouth. We will be back.
We went here for my sister bachelorette dinner. The food was really good! The stuff mushrooms are a must and I had the stuff shrimp and it was really good! The wait staff was really slow, however. We waited awhile for refills on our drinks and our waitresses seemed like they were moving in slow motion with everything. Really nice but just plan to be waiting for awhile.
Food was ok. Server was outstanding. I didn’t get her name, but she was great.
Great views, but fried oysters was overbreaded and the service was slow.
Really enjoyed our meal with friends. Server Rod was terrific. Thanks for continued greatness out west on Galveston.
The atmosphere on the back patio overlooking the bay was incredible. Beautiful sunset!Service was very good but the mosquitoes were terrible so right at dusk we had to go inside. The interior of the restaurant was just your average atmosphere. Service was very good. The food was good but not outstanding. It’s worth going for the view off the back patio though.
Monica, our waitress, was great. The food was a mixed bag. Mine was good (Texas Snapper) but my girlfriend got the Seafood Treasure and it was disappointing. The blackened scallops were burned on one side, and raw on the other. The waitress offered to get some more but what came back were slighting browned on either side but with no seasoning. There is supposed to be crab in the pasta, and she was holding up little bits asking "do you think that is crabmeat?"
Sunsets are great from there! There is live music in the bar and overall it has a fun vibe.
Always a favorite for the family and friends
All good with exception of my date ordered coconut shrimp and the only dipping sauce was a very hot spicy habanero mango. She couldn't eat her shrimp. Not a great evening.
Restaurant was dirty, lobby had a funny smell, hostesses and waitstaff didn't have good communication. Waitress was nice, but food came out slow and the catfish wasn't cooked all the way through. We won't be returning.
You can't beat the view and the food was good too! The staff didn't have the best attitudes, not necessarily towards us but to each other.
My coconut shrimp was overcooked and my husbands pasta was mushy. My friends stuffed shrimp was blah. Our last guest did enjoy his fried shrimp as well as the appetizer of bacon wrapped shrimp It was just an expensive, underwhelming experience for what we thought would be a very nice dinner. I can see going there to sit outside with the kids for a burger or sandwich.
The hostess ignored my advance notice of a birthday event and proceeded to roll her eyes when we requested a table near the windows. After waiting over an hour for the food to arrive (despite tables that arrived before us being served and departing before our meal arrived), of the 7 guests, 4 orders were incorrect, and one was dropped on the birthday girl..!
The view is great. That’s it. Would never recommend this place
Slow but food was good
