Waterman's Restaurant is a cozy seafood restaurant overlooking the Galveston Bay. The views from here are absolutely stunning, and the food just makes it even better. It has an extensive bar that offers up an array of possibilities, while the abundance of available seating outside offers up a great opportunity to have healthy conversation with friends and family.
Waterman's Restaurant has a terrific low key ambiance and has been serving seafood to patrons for years. Consider ordering the salmon, which is grilled to perfection and served over a bed of rice, as it comes highly recommended by many. All of this and more is what makes Waterman's Restaurant such a special place.
Great food and service with a great view. Love the place.
The food was good and the service was excellent! Ray did a great job of taking care of us! a very pleasant evening!
So glad I ran across this restaurant on Facebook and had time to try it. Service and food were excellent and the ambiance was fun. Cool building too! Felt safe and away from other people also.
This is the most beautiful sunset I ever seen! Definitely worth a wait and the food is amazing too!
We sat on the patio and it was a little too hot for that. The food and service was perfect.
Very enjoyable, great view, very nice tables and comfy chairs.
Double date dinner - Began our dining experience sitting in the downstairs outdoor area as some of our party wanted to be in the open air and watch the sunset, however they had a karaoke singer performing who was cranked up extremely loud which made for an extremely unpleasant experience. After an appetizer we asked to be moved upstairs inside in which we then experienced the true Waterman's service at its best. Our waiter was extremely polite and very helpful - the food followed suit. Superb restaurant and dining experience minus the obnoxious open mike/karaoke singer downstairs.
Boudin eggrolls were the bomb! Excellent surf and turf with diver scallops. Chef Eric outdid himself!
Love the sunset !!! Get there before 8 pm to witness it ... as always ... great meal , great company , amazing night !!!
The food was very fresh and delicious. We loved the atmosphere.
Lobster bisque way too salty!! Many kitchen staff not wearing a mask. Waiter wore a mask but should have worn gloves especially when getting me an unwrapped straw from the bar and then sticking it into my tea!!
Don’t bother making reservation, they didn’t honor ours, and did not look at our special requests. We arrived at our reservation time, only to be told we would have to wait, and did we want table inside or out. I had requested table by window. We were seated about 30 minutes after our reservation time, not by a window. Our table had a dripping HVAC vent that dripped on my husband. For a dinner bill of over $200 for four, we were disappointed.
The food was great. Loved the atmosphere. Looking forward to another visit to try something different on the menu. Saw many items that I couldn’t decide on so that warrants another trip.
This was a great place to eat. Love it .
Service was outstanding!
We went to Waterman’s today for lunch. When we arrived around 1:00 (on a Monday) we were the only people in the restaurant. We got to pick our table (by the widow looking out over the water) which was nice but tables were spaced and blocked off for social distancing and outside seating was also available. The food was amazing! We had the Shrimp Kisses for an appetizer. I had the Waterman Salad and my husband had the Grilled Snapper. The salad was super fresh and tasty and the grilled snapper and veggies were cooked perfectly. We also ended with cheesecake because at that point, why not? It was so good! We will definitely return and have heard great things about their dinner menu as well!
This was our first time to Waterman’s. The food and service were excellent. We will definitely be back!
Excellent and best food by far on the island.
Awesome food and service!!!
From the hostess to the server to the management who checked in our table, our dining experience was perfect. The restaurant is gorgeous and comfortable w/ cushioned, wing-backed chairs inviting diners to stay a while. My sister and I split fried green tomatoes, a salad, and Texas style swordfish. We loved every bite and will return again if the opportunity arises.
Best food on the island. Great atmosphere and great service.
Good service. Food wasn’t as good as last time.
This is a beautiful restaurant right on the water. I am thankful that a server told us about it when we were in Galveston because we were staying in West Galveston and there are fewer restaurant choices in that area. Anyway we started with the Lobster bisque w pieces of lobster in it! And 2 of us had the lobster ravioli which was amazing. We also had the reddish with veggies and ate every bite. The sunset was beautiful and service was spot on! We will be back next time we are in town.
This is a beautiful restaurant on the water in Galveston. The Gumbo was incredible.
Beautiful view of the water. The food was awesome. Our waitress was great. We will definitely go back!!
Very disappointed in the lack of Covid 19 “awareness” and protection. Cutlery being handled without napkins, not one mask worn by servers/kitchen or bar help. No changes to seating proximity either.
There are too many restaurants in Galveston who have made proper steps to protect patron & staff health.
We got to our table an hour after our registration. An hour later we got our food. The wait staff was not good. We didn’t get 1/2 the things we ordered, but by the time our food got there we were done. The table next to us said 1/2 their party had left because they had been there an hour and a half. The filet was delicious. The salad that comes with candied walnuts, got to us without walnuts. The lettuce looked tired. I got coconut shrimp. It was ok. It comes with two sides. We only got one.
Service was slow and food was cold when received.
Reservations mean absolutely nothing. I have had reservations 3 times in the last 4 weeks. 2 times when arriving at the time of the reservation, we were told it would be a 30 to 45 minute wait. We walked out. The receptionist was rude and told us that they could not "turn off OpenTable reservations" and there was nothing she could do about it. Wait or leave. We, party of 4, left and went somewhere else.
It is too bad. The last 2 times we were able to be seated the food was fine. The restaurant has been nicely upgraded. But, if you don't honor your reservations, don't make them!
Hope that they fix this, as a West End resident, I would like to see this owner succeed.
The lobster bisque was like eating a bowl of salt so it was returned. The waiter did take it off the ticket but didn’t bother to ask if something else was wanted in its place. The reservation was for 6:45 had to wait almost an hour to be seated. The rest of the food was good but the restaurant does need sun shades on the windows so people aren’t blinded.
The patio view over the bay was beautiful, although the fan was not working and it was pretty hot. The food was average, but the waiter was excellent and very attentive to us. On future visits, I would probably sit inside to be cooler.
I have dined at The Waterman several times now and my last visit was by far the most disappointing because despite my 7pm reservation being confirmed, we arrived and waited over 2+ hours for our table before giving up and eating at the bar, which by then had cleared out. The hostess first told us they had triple booked reservations that evening due to a technical glitch, but then, somehow later just forgot about us all together. The weather was great so we did enjoy the sunset view on the deck and enjoyed time eating in the bar area eventually and the bar staff was wonderful and the food was wonderful and we had a wonderful time, but even during covid crazy times, honoring a reservation that was double checked in advance and upon arrival shouldn’t have been too difficult. We tipped generously and will still go back, but if you have a reservation here and still have to wait more than 30 minutes upon arrival, just go to the manager directly instead of politely waiting and checking in with the hostess like we did.
Anniversary dinner with another couple. 7pm reservations but arrived to the hostess stating their internet went down and they missed all online reservations. So, there was a bunch of angry people at the hostess stand (which is not the hostesses fault). I provided email proof or our reservation so we were seated within 20 minutes. We were seated at a 4 top table next to the window. It was a very tight fit with a table next to us and behind us and we were by the door to the patio. There were no blinds on the windows so the sun setting was blaring in and one of our guests had to wear his sunglasses and was hot. Granted one of the reasons to go to Watermans in the evening is to see the beautiful sunset over the bay but you don't want it shining in your face before it starts to set!
The restaurant had new decor and seating/tables since I was there last year and while it looks very nice and the seats were comfortable - they were too large for the space. Our waiter came to the table and immediately let us know it was his first day. He was very nice and we were in no hurry so we were patient (lucky for him). It took about 15 minutes to get our drink orders and quite a while to get the food. We ordered shrimp kisses that were never served, cups of gumbo that were good, a couple of dinner salads that were not served and for main courses - redfish, salmon, grilled shrimp and a shrimp pasta. All entrees were excellent once we finally received them. We felt bad for the waiter - he didn't have any help and it looked like there were several other servers that were new. That is when management needs to step in and keep tabs on the new servers tables. Also, there were only two computers for the waiters to input their orders so there was constantly a line at the service area of waiters waiting. I'm hopeful Watermans will get their act together as the food was wonderful and the sunsets make it worth giving it another chance.
We are so happy to have Watermans serving good food again. The west end needed this. The new dining room is beautiful and the views are exceptional as always. Everyone at the table loved their dishes of gumbo, fish, pasta. The shrimp kisses and fried mushrooms were amazing. Keep it up Watermans. We will definitely be back.
Our server was new, so it was a bit spotty with serve. But overall a great experience.
The food was delicious. We sat on the porch and saw the best sunset. We will definitely be back.
Food is good and the sunset is beautiful. It was our servers second day - she was very young and under-trained, and obviously inexperienced. We had to get our own cutlery and napkins after our food was delivered. No one knew anything about buying a bottle of wine, price, selection etc. Price we were charged was different than what we were quoted. I think the prices are very high for the portion size served. We go to Waterman’s our of convenience most of the time.
It was pretty good!
We had to wait for 30 minutes beyond our reservation; the server was inattentive and forgetful and we needed other wait staff to help us. Food was okay. Not worth going back. No ocean view, just a slight view to an inland bay. There were open seats at the window and they still put us at a table in the middle of the room. Poor customer service.
