Waterbar Ratings and Reviews
I love Waterbar and have been there many times, even just for a cocktail and appetizer or dessert and tea. It sits right under the Bay Bridge with the beautiful light installation viewable from many tables. I had wonderful fresh oysters, clams and a divinely inspired deviled egg with Dungeness crab. The bread is house made warm and wonderful. Unfortunately, there is nothing on the menu for the unadventurous and my spouse couldn't find anything to eat, so I was only able to enjoy appetizers and some champagne by the glass before we had to depart. The menu changes so don't count on what you had last time being there next time. Except for outstanding oysters, seafood, cocktails and wine which are always served.
This was our first time at the Waterbar for dinner. Unfortunately it was disappointing not so much the food, but the service. My wife and I chose two and three items from the appetizer menu and expected to be served as we ordered it. My first item came together with my second choice. The wait in between for the next order was more then 30 minutes, and mine was over salted . I also asked the waitress for some more olives and onions for my martini which she completely forgot.
San Francisco has so many good restaurants that I have to think twice before I would come back.
We've eaten at Waterbar several times over the past few years usually for birthdays. We were disappointed with the food and service when my wife and I had a Sunday lunch a couple of years ago and consequently had not come back. We were looking for a fine place to celebrate our daughter's and her husband's birthdays and after reading recent positive reviews decided to try them again They made some accommodations to some of our orders which worked well. The food itself was very well prepared, very good quality, and very good portions to the point that we had no room for desserts which is unusual for us. They had a good wine list. We ordered primarily by the glass and pours were generous and prices were fair for an upscale restaurant. The service in some instances was a little off but still at a very high level. They have a beautiful interior and great views. You'll spend some money but it is worth it for those special occasions or a good expense account
The $1 oysters were extremely small, so if you like oysters, buy the more expensive ones. My friend was very happy with her fixed price lunch. The chocolate dessert included was delicious. My kale salad was also delicious and big enough to share. The mussels and clams in a cream sauce that I ordered had very few mussels and clams. The cream sauce did not taste good and was only lukewarm. Our waitress had no personality unlike our previous waiters. It was very difficult to have a conversation due to the noise level. We have had much better experiences in the past. The view of the water is always lovely. I am now not sure I want to return to the Waterbar.
The single best dining experience we’ve ever had. This is the kind of restaurant where you want to kiss all the wait staff on the way out for giving you the most ambient, attentive, friendly and memorable night out. And what a memory to have as our last night visiting San Francisco!
My partner and I tossed up going to a Michelin Star restaurant (as we don’t have any where we are from) or Waterbar, and in hindsight I would choose Waterbar ten times over.
We booked a table the night before and got a late seating which was perfect as it opened up a table for us next to the cocktail bar, the ceiling height tropical fish tanks and a front row view of the spectacular light show on the Bay Bridge was enough to give us goosebumps. The service was impeccable and we enjoyed a full 3 course dinner with divine cocktails. We ordered the calamari and sushimi to start which were both amazing, then followed our mains of the braised lamb and halibut. Both were also thoroughly enjoyed, and my partner who is reasonably hard to please was speechless. For dessert we had the champagne pear and chocolate mousse. For two regular diners with strong sweet tooths, the chocolate mousse was agreed the best dessert we’ve ever had. I’d be happy to share this one dessert next time!
Thank you to all the lovely staff and talented chefs at Waterbar for sending us back to NZ with the fondest memories of your gorgeous restaurant and city. We will most certainly be back. Do not miss an opportunity to visit this restaurant if you are lucky enough to go to San Francisco.
Some of the best shellfish / rawbar around. Great clams and oysters and massive shrimp. Strong wine list including value priced whites that work really well. And we shared a few of the apps - which were good, though I thought the squid was too much breading and lost the squid. Similarly, the scallop pasta was OK, just a bit muddled. Will no doubt return. What a room, and great attentive servers.
We ate dinner with another couple. We dine here for special occasions as we like the environment, the menu choices and the location by the water. All four of us had the endive salad which was a perfect start to our meal. I had the halibut with the crispy potatoes on top—it had a great presentation and was very tasty. My husband had the sea bass which he said was perfectly cooked, too. The only dish we didn’t like was the side dish of carrots which seemed over cooked and small.
Table service was excellent and friendly and timing of the dishes was good, too. Overall a wonderful evening.
Waterbar has been a popular draw for a long time now, so it has legs. The location is spectacular with bay views. The interior is nicely appointed. The bar is always full and buzzing. No restaurant can really have legs without good food and Waterbar is no exception. The oysters are always fresh and excellent. For our entree, we enjoyed fresh petrale sole which our waitressed boned for us. This, combined with a nice bottle of wine, made for a fine evening. Menu prices are moderate; the wine list is moderate to expensive. For a special occasion Waterbar is hard to beat.
Everything was delicious - fresh crab and tuna were wonderful. Food just took really long time - we were there an hour and half for lunch and while apologetic it seemed something should have been comp’d on bill. Not the end of world and would go back but just think they could have handled better.
One of my new favorites! The entire dining experience was nearly perfect. The wait staff and manager were incredibly charming and professional. The booth seating was very comfortable, the menu was short but accommodating, and the food was absolutely stellar.
IT WAS OUR FIRST TIME BUT WON'T BE THE LAST !!!
WE HAD A WONDERFUL MEAL, THE WINE WAS ALSO EXCELLENT AND THE SERVICE VERY EFFICIENT AND FRIENDLY!
WE ARE FROM SWITZERLAND, THE FRENCH PART, AND WE COULD EVEN HAVE A SMALL CHAT IN FRENCH WITH PIERRE!!!!
THANK YOU , WE HAD A GREAT TIME AND WE ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO COME BACK NEXT YEAR.....YOUR PLACE WILL BE THE FIRST ON OUR LIST...!!!
We had made the reservations weeks in advance and made a special request to sit at the window. Of course we got the farthest table from the window but there were strategically placed mirrors that allowed you to see parts of the bay bridge. It made us wonder if they viewed the special request section in open table !
Lovely, lovely, lovely!! Such delicious food! Excellent service—great bartenders...the view is spectacular. Valet parking is so convenient. Really enjoyed the experience—an excellent taste of San Francisco for out of town guests as well. Always ready to return!
