My second time here and was again very impressed with the food and service. Oysters amazingly fresh, the grilled hamachi on spicy udon noodles was fantastic and well worth having again and again.
Lovely lovely lovely!!
The food and service was wonderful. There will definitely be a return visit!,
Friday night, so a little crowded which meant a short wait for the table - but a nice cocktail in the bar area did the trick. Food always so good here - scallops were perfect and yellowtail was awesome! Good service, waiter was cracking jokes and making us laugh. Really like this place!!
Great service
Food is good but seriously overpriced. I payed $100 for 6 grilled oysters, a main dish which was mediocre at best, and a mojito. I am sure there are other restaurants out there that serve better food at more reasonable prices.
The food and service were excellent as usual, and you can't beat the $1.05 oysters.
The food, sercice and view were amazing
We are Waterbar regulars so we clearly like the restaurant. On this occasion we had Sunday brunch. Our previous dining experiences were primarily for dinner.
The menu is relatively limited but items are generally very good. The servers are first rate at Waterbar. They are helpful, not intrusive and knowledgeable.
The kitchen was insanely slow on the day that we were there. We had appetizers and drinks before lunch but the entire meal took nearly 2 1/2 hours. Much of that time was spent waiting for orders to come out. The restaurant was full but this was surprisingly slow.
We had a fabulous dinner at Waterbar. The waiter was friendly and very professional and we appreciate his attentiveness even though it was a very busy evening.
We appreciate the time given to enjoy our meal.
The only negative review was the seating. We were sat in the corner which I hoped we would have been placed closer to the windows for a nice view or around the aquariums. The corner while quiet was a bit dark.
I was so disappointed. My husband and I wanted fish. There were only three choices, Grouper, Yellowtail and Sole. We both chose Grouper and we both found it unpleasant. We prefer a seafood restaurant with more choices. It was a lot of money to spend to leave almost the whole fish on our plate.
The service was excellent . The Ultimate Bloody Mary did not live up to its expectation. Nothing extra special about it . Oysters were great . We ordered tuna tartar ceviche , calamari - all excellent . Their options for entree’s are limited and will be nice to have more options
Superb venue right on the water in the shadow of the Oakland bridge which lights up at night. Upscale interior with two 1500 gallon aquariums and lots of fish. Classy but not pretentious. Reservations highly recommended. Wait staff was superb, very attentive and quick. We tried several off menu cocktails and they were right on. We were celebrating an anniversary and noted that in advance. Everyone seemed to know in advance and they did something special for us at dessert. It was a seafood night for us so we ordered one of the platters. Lots of food and almost too much for two of us. Sides were very tasty. It was a great experience for us and I would return in a heartbeat. Great dining experience - check it out!
We sat (and ate) at the Bar. Wonderful folks behind the bar, moved us over to the window when it opened up and not only did it give us an unobstructed view of the Bay, lights and the Bay Bridge - it was relatively quiet. Truly great evening celebrating my wife’s birthday.
Friends from the East Coast came and a friend from San Francisco.
The food was outstanding. My N.Y. Friend said she has been to many high end restaurants in the east coast and Waterbar was one of the best with food being outstanding!! She is correct. Food is outstanding, but the service and staff are absolutely above high end. They were so terrific. Friendly and so attentive.
Everyone should try Waterbar.

The place in the city for oysters and conversation.. Bar service is excellent..
I've been going to Waterbar since they first opened. The dollar oysters got me there, the great food keeps me going back. Since my last visit there have been some changes in dinnerware that make presentation even more desirable. The quality of the food still outstanding. From cocktails with $1.05 oysters, to main courses and desserts, I've never been disappointed.
Painfully slow service.
Food was tasty (albeit pricey but expected for the view). I'm a vegetarian and the chef did a great job of creating a dish that competed with the seafood options on the menu. Only negative comment was when our waiter forgot about our drinks and had to be reminded after we waited patiently for 30 minutes. His response was defensive and blamed the bar for being backed up but we saw several tables seated and served after we ordered our drinks. The $18 martini came out shortly after, though, and was tasty so it all worked out. We do have an expectation for quality and good service if we are paying high prices for such. Would have been a five star experience if it wasn't for the defensive and grumpy waiter and the delay in drinks.
Enjoyed our visit at Waterbar. The drinks, oysters and the view were well worth it!
They were so nice! My brother and his friends were driving up from Sam Jose to meet me and the weather and traffic were horrendous. They were able to save our table for us for over an hour and it was so appreciated. We had a great dinner and service!!! And the bartenders took good care of me while I waited in the bar! Thanks to everyone at WaterBar as we had a great night in spite of the weather and traffic.
Our first time but won't be our last. We can't wait to go back. Try the miso soup, it was our favorite.
Wonderful afternoon. Everyone made us feel welcome and made my guest’s 97 th birthday very special.
You can't beat the Waterbar location but they also do an excellent job with their cuisine. Most of the seafood entrees are delectable. Their oysters are always fresh and good. The servers are also very good-attentive with pleasing personalities. The wine list is extensive and moderate to expensive. The restaurant is often quite crowded so reservations must usually be made well in advance.
Went here for my spouse birthday both our first time here and it was amazing food and energy
and great view at night with the bay bridge out the window
The local fish was wonderful and we loved the extra birthday touch!
We were there for the Easter brunch and we were surprised the Easter brunch menu was very good. Food was delicious especially the dessert. Will definitely go again.
Excellent food and oyster bar are excellent, balanced wine list very reasonably selected and moderately priced many easily accessible very good wines
Waterbar was spot on! We came for my wife's birthday and we loved every bit of it. The cocktails at the bar were excellent and the view from our table was SPECTACULAR! Our server did a great job explaining the menu and did a really good job matching wines to our dinner selection. The meat in the shell fish was so flavorful. usually most of the flavor is on the shells but the flavor was in the meat.
We do not live in the city, so I am not sure when we will be able to come back, but we can't wait!
Was seated at a window and it was beautiful. You have to ask for bread and it was very good. Was very unhappy with the corking fee; 35.00/bottle is excessive.
Beautiful views, fresh and fabulous seafood, and Excellent service!
Amazing view and lovely food - great recommendations from the waiter. Delicious deviled eggs, crab eggs Florentine. Yummmm!
I love how it has a premium spot in front of thr bay bridge. It’s stunning! The food is very delicious too! We got Grilled Bass, Shrimp & Scallops, some oysters and Parmesan Fries. :)
Excellent food, service. Very noisy
My party of five had a memorable business lunch at Waterbar. The service, food and ambiance were great. We had a booth that overlooked the Bay Bridge, and also the incredible fish tank inside. Waterbar can be pricey, but worth it for special occasions. Also, a $25 lunch prix fixe menu if offered for those who are budget minded.
Fun place for lunch. Welcoming excellent service from arrival to departure. Waterbar has a limited menu but everything was cooked to perfection - including the hollandaise which can be tricky.
We've been looking forward to another great dining experience at this fine restaurant but were somewhat disappointed this time. An 8:45pm dining seems pretty normal/early for European standards, but here – in service terms – it felt like way past midnight: everyone in a rush to get rid of the guests, clean up and leave. This is rather awkward for an upscale SF resto. Don't become provincial - it's San Francisco after all!
The food was fabulous. Every dish we ordered was delicious, innovative and novel. . We had the whole sea bass which was on top of some salad and tahini sauce with delicious crispy falafel balls. We also had the trout appetizer--three different preparations of trout which melted in your mouth. We brought along a bottle of Chateau Margaux 1998 which we enjoyed- corkage fee is a bit high, but we had the right bottle of wine. The best was the dessert made with ice cream made from duck eggs-creamy and delicious.
The atmosphere was wonderful--a "happening place" (not a place for a quiet romantic dinner). Many millennials out for the evening at the bar with their friends--savoring appetizers and sipping drinks. Our server was delightful and gave us great recommendations-we ordered a bit too much, but enjoyed the leftovers the next night at home. I would definitely come back, perhaps for lunch or for dinner with more people so we could share more dishes together. (the dishes were prepared to share with people at the table.)
The waiter and manager were too pushy on us ordering food. We were having a business meeting and were enjoying our $240 appetizer and drinks.
Great service and better food. The place is a bit loud, but OK. Would return any time.
