The Waterbar has become my go-to destination for special occasions and out-of-town visitors. (It probably is a little pricey for frequent dining.) Everything about this restaurant is first-rate starting with the service. From the time you walk in the door 'til the time you leave, you feel like part of the family. The wait-staff is always there, but unobtrusive. They laugh with you, offer suggestions when asked, and listen attentively.
The menu is first-class, with very unusual combinations, which can sound intimidating. Yet, this is one place I am not hesitant to try something new.
The venue is outstanding and is a great advertisement for what you expect in San Francisco. All-in-all a great experience.
Good food and service. Music was too loud was sitting beneath the speaker.
WB is an extremely pleasant experience in all aspects
THANK you BarbaraF! Best, Rich T.
Wonderful food, and experience.
We had some of the best fish I've ever eaten at Waterbar, along with great coffee/espresso, and a wonderful fennel root salad. Ocean views made it a real experience!
FYI, very few people wearing masks, even inside (7/2021). If that's a concern for you, I strongly recommend asking for an outdoor table.
Thanks JaimeS, Thanks for enjoying. Mask wearing is a personal choice in San Francisco at this time. We respect any choice a staff member or guest is making. We still have our air purifiers going inside as well. Best regards, Rich T.
We had a wonderful anniversary dinner.
Amazing as always! Loved the food and service was at its best!
Many thanks Greg!
In the areas where we were seated the atmosphere was more or less tourist casual, with a lot of people just lounging around in their sweatshirts, but apart from the happy hour oysters, which are a great deal, prices are very high with the kind of markups that remind you that the overhead must be astronomical despite the semi-scuzzy surroundings. Wines and drinks in general are marked up beyond the usual norm, even. You can get a good deal on the oysters during happy hour, but if you have a Loire sauvignon blanc to go with it expect to pay for a glass of something acceptable but unremarkable close to what you'd pay for a bottle in a retail store. The self-described "finest sustainable seafood restaurant" in the Bay Areas had just a few seafood options as entrees, and what I ordered turned out to be $40 of something mediocre. We ended up paying over $300 for two, but later that night it occurred to me that my partner ate nothing but some bread, a salad, and a little of the entree that was shared between us. Also, I couldn't get a reservation except in the outdoor area at 5:15, but as we ate the entire patio pretty much emptied out, so I wondered why tables had been presented as so scarce. I do realize that there are other seating areas (which I couldn't see) that are probably much nicer than where we were (by the bar for happy hour and on the ground-floor patio for dinner), so some of my comments might not apply to the restaurant as a whole. My "recommend to a friend" vote applies to happy hour oysters, but nothing else.
Hello David, Sorry you did not enjoy as we would hope. We thank you for your dose of humble pie- I will share it with the team. Thanks for your honesty, Rich T.
The service was amazing along with the view! One of the best meal I have had in the Pier.
Loved our table and server. I had a lobster roll and being a Maine girl I am picky. The lobster was way undercooked and the garlic completely overpowered the lobster flavor. The roll was cooked authentically and delish. Basically a lobster roll needs nothing but lobster and butter. The two flavors are very complementary.
Thanks GinnyF, We can do the lobster roll warm with butter upon request, ask for it so next time. Best, Rich T.
My party of 3 was lucky enough to snag a Monday night reservation and not surprisingly, the place was packed. The service was exemplary starting with the front of the house hostess who actually tried to find us a spot at the bar because we arrived early for drinks. Quite a departure from the typical “you are welcome to find a place somewhere and come back later”. The food was awesome as expected. The shrimp appetizer was superb, crispy and full of flavor. The halibut looked so good we all ordered the same thing and nobody was disappointed. I would rate it one of the best ever. Pretty fair value as well.
Great thanks for the details IndieFoodie! Best, Rich T.
Some food options were not available in the menu, however we have noticed other table ordering shrimp and French fries.. And I love them as appetizers. For this reason we were limited to choose an option we didn’t like so much, mainly due to the fact the pasta and fish were a bit cold. The dessert was not also the best option.
This is a very nice and atmospheric restaurant overlooking the bridge. Courteous and helpful staff. Unfortunately, the menu lacked a lot of dishes, especially for children. We were upset, children and we were very hungry, because we came directly from the airport from the plane and after that we had to go back to Sacramento. Well, in general, a very good restaurant and probably more for adults.
Appreciate your thoughts - We respectfully and happily will report that we love having families here and welcome them every day. Best, Rich T.
Top Notch food and service. Great Bay Views! I will be back.
Many thanks VilleFranche!
Thanks for celebrating with us and HB! Best, Rich T.
This restaurant is outstanding! Very lovely decor, our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly and the food- totally wonderful. Great creativity with ingredients, every dish was Quite tasty. Absolutely a must with a great view.
Waterbar does not rely on the location alone (although with a view of the bridge, you imagine it could) to ensure that people will want to dine at the restaurant again and again. In addition to the wonderful view, the food is really excellent. The fish for both dishes we ordered was perfectly cooked and the selection of accompanying flavors was well thought out with equally fresh produce to support the quality of the fish served. Portions were even a bit more generous than we expected, but not excessive; the portions are nearly perfect if you plan to have three courses (which you should). Service is also to be commended since the waitstaff is present and engaged, but also doesn't hover; you can simply enjoy dining knowing that if you need something, they will be happy to accommodate you. This was really a wonderful dining experience and I would not hesitate to recommend it to others.
Many thanks for the kind words HP! Best, Rich T.
Lovely to eat outside on the upstairs patio with views! But the lobster roll was mostly mayo with very little lobster- disappointing for WaterBar!. Server described the Tres Leches cake completely wrong, so a surprise when I ordered it. Lunch including tip was almost $200 and we were disappointed somewhat. But very good salad and views!
Hello Birdie, Please let us know of any disappointment in the moment so we can make you happy. Thank you for the details, best, Rich t.
Great food service and hospitality. Amazing views to of the bay bridge. Also good happy hour special for oysters!
Thanks so much Robert! Best, Rich T.
Very limited menu and extremely pricey. The soup was tasteless as was my ahi tuna appetizer .. bread was excellent and best part of our meal. That, and the view was excellent. Obviously a trendy place to see and be seen by those with unlimited budgets.
Hello Laur15, If things are not to your liking, let us know and we will do all we cam to redeem. We do not consider that we have a limited menu in any fashion, but appreciate your feedback. Please note that any fine premium food product is expensive in our current market and we do all we can to provide quality to pricing ratios for our guest. Kindly, Rich T.
Tuna entree was expensive at $28 for just 6 slices of fish.
Thank you Keith!
Everything was very good. Minus one star because two of the dishes were way too salty!!! Please lower the salt amount. The dishes would have been perfect if not for the abundance of salt!
Wish we could have re-done the food for you ADSD. Thanks for the feedback and we hope to welcome you soon! Best, Rich T.
Good food —- bad sweating !
Not sure about your message, but thank you for enjoying DonaldS. Kindly, Rich T.
Exceptional!! We were celebrating our wedding day. It was amazing!

I love the team at Waterbar. My execs were super impressed and everything was delicious.
Thank you, love you guys beyond words! ♥
Waterbar is always good for food, view, service, anything you want.
We love you JeanneRose! Best, Rich
We're pleasantly surprised that my request for a table with the bay view was granted!
We got a table at 2nd level outdoor patio and the Bay Bridge was literally in front of our eyes.
The service was top-notch and the food did not disappoint to say the least.
Good food, wonderful service plus the spectacular SF Bay view!
We will be back :)
See you soon April and THANKS! Rich T.
The front host was not welcoming and had an attitude not what you expect at a restaurant like this
Absolutely loved the view and the trout main. Tuna appetizer was terrible. Our waitress was not nice and the glass of wine pours were very scant for $18 a glass, maybe 4 oz no more. Desserts are fair, pass on them.
Heat lamps do not function well. Many are broken. Wish they’d go to Costco and buy more.
Overall, would go back for the trout and skip everything else.
Hello Deborah, Well, humble pie it is, sorry we did not deliver as you would hope. We thank you for the feedback. Best regards, Rich T.
Fabulous service and excellent food.
From arrival to departure, this is a special place with impeccable service and a fresh tasty menu.
I cannot recommend this place more highly. Expect the price to reflect the quality and you won't be surprised.
Hello Davewho, So nicely stated appreciated! Best, Rich T.
I had reservations for 1:45 but we were able to be seated at 12:30. Many thanks!
Thanks for the review Wythe! Best, Rich T.
Brought my parents to eat oysters and have a few drinks. The absolute best price on oysters anywhere! The featured oysters were $1.05 each. We had ACME sourdough and a few cocktails with it. Amazing view of the bay bridge and beautiful bar area. Server was patient and friendly. Overall, great experience.
Great service, beautiful view, awesome fresh oysters.
Happy to hear it Littlelulu22! Best, Rich T.
Everything was lovely. 3 Adults and a 5 year old. All enjoyed their meal. Just an FYI, there was too much mayo mixed with the lobster roll, The lobster was very fresh
Thanks for the detail and support Zoe! Best, Rich T.
The wait staff was very attentive and gave great recommendations. Loved our experience and will be visiting again soon!!
Thanks so much NatalieN and here is a shout out to our folks that take such good care of our guests! Thank you, Rich T.
Made us special desserts for
My boyfriends birthday as well as our anniversary as it falls
On the same day. Food was delicious!
Many thanks AnnaS!
Have eaten at Waterbar many times before. This visit, my first since pandemic restrictions have eased, was kind of disappointing. Food was still delicious (we had ling cod, lobster roll, etc.) but the portions were very small for the cost.
Hello MaryB, Thank you for sharing your perception, interesting to hear as we have not changed any portions sizes from then to now - but we will note to Chef. Best regards, Rich T.
Wonderful meal and top notch service. Definitely expensive but worth it for a special dinner out. Our fish was spectacular. And a lovely view.
Thank you Angela!
We sat outside and upstairs where it is very quiet and great views. The food was excellent--delish $1.05 oysters, AK halibut and Gulf shrimp ceviche, lobsta bisque, lobsta roll, soft-shelled crabs from MD, good wine and cocktails, with excellent service from Christofe.
Hi Mollusk, Great to hear and we will let Christophe know of your kind comments. Best, Rich T.
