Waterbar San Diego
Amazing service! An awesome dining experience
Food was REALLY average. SUPER noisy. Requested a window table a week ahead. They called at 3:20 PM the day of our reservation (which was at 7:00 that night) and said, "We are having a big corporate event that is taking up half of the restaurant. We won't be able to give you a window table, would you like to come another night?" Uh....no. When we got there they offered a window table right next to a really loud band or a table in the back corner near the area where you check in. All the servers gather near the host desk and yack so it was even noisier there. We weren't expecting a quiet place but everything about this place kinda sucked, except the view, which we couldn't see anyway. Super disappointed. Thought PB had finally found a great new place.
We made a reservation here and when we showed up for it, we found out the restaurant closed at 4pm that day.
We were there Christmas Day for dinner. There were few servers, which was fine as there was not much crowd. However, the server missed several details, and the experience could have been much better.
Zac was one of the best servers we have experienced in sometime. Good original flavors and a variety of options to chose from. Definitely recommend the restaurant and ask for Zac
We ate there on Thanksgiving so not a typical menu, but the food was good and reasonably priced. The location is great if you want something on the beach (although remember this is PB so not upscale). The service was good and I did have something from the regular menu -- fish and chips -- and it was good. I'd go back and I would definitely recommend for sunset.
This is the fourth time I have eaten at the Waterbar and every time the food has been mediocre. The view is beautiful and the cocktails are good, but the food....no thank you. It is expensive, the menu is limited, and every thing I have ordered was terrible.
We made a reservation and were seated promptly. However, no one came to the table to greet us or take our order for at least 35 minutes and the restaurant was not terribly busy. We left at that point and had dinner elsewhere. Disappointing as the ambiance and view were good.
Came here for the live music. It was nice but not so many people were there so no vibe enjoyed. I expected so many more people but I don't see their Thursdays Live Music was that popular. Service was exemplary though - bartenders were willing to give me mocktails, servers took good care of the tables. Overall good experience, would come back for afternoon drinks to watch the sunset.
First time trying the restaurant. The food was good, not exceptional. The view is amazing, thus a worthy happy hour spot.
The issue we had is the live music started up at 7pm ish and basically we could not longer hear each other talk at the table of 6. Because of that I would not recommend this to others for a nice dinner gathering of catch-up conversation.
The food was amazing and our server was very attentive. Overall, it was a great experience! Order the pork belly toast!
Local Crown Point (PB) couple on an oceanfront date night....
Best part of the venue is the view...oceanfront. Although, just so you know, it’s not indoor/outdoor. It’s indoor only with windows that slide back to let in the ocean breezes and showcase the view. This worked for us, but sometimes we want to be outside.
Service was excellent....Nicole was our server and she was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. If we went back, we’d definitely ask for Nicole’s section.
Calamari appetizer was really good. It had chorizo and some little sweet peppers that added a nice flavor.
The Opah BLT was a little disappointing. I love fish sandwiches, and I love BLTs, but this combo left a little to be desired. The flavors were good, so I’m not sure what was missing. Maybe a thinner bread?
My hubby had the Waterbar burger which had warm crab and crispy pork. Delicious! We’d highly recommend this.
An interesting note...Nicole was very educated on the cocktail menu and my hubs had Aphrodite which had “passionfruit foam”. Sounds kind of gross but it was very good! Thetis’ Love with Tanqueray, basil water, and blackberry-balsamic reduction was also interesting and tasty.
Definitely visit Waterbar while in PB! We’re locals FYI and will go back.
Great brunch, the food is fantastic! Sangrias are delicious, service is excellent. My favs are the Water Bar burger, Steak and Eggs, french toast, truffle fries and the chocolate cake.
Excellent service. Great ocean views but if you’re seated near the window there will be people standing near you on weekends. The noise was excessive on Saturday night so beware if you’re over 50. The food was better than average (rate a 4 in yelp speak) but don’t get the raw oysters (Rays law: never order them in a place that only carries one variety).
Visited with husband and pre-teen kids. View is amazing and vibe is great. Food was good and music was just a bit loud for conversation. Great drinks
Great service from Gabby. Food was very good. The restaurant looks awesome.
It was my first time there. My wife and adult son went there for father's day dinner. The environment is beautiful and lively. The sun was out, and the restaurant had its windows open to soak it in. The beach view was fantastic. It was pretty loud (there was a DJ providing music) but seemed appropriate for a beach location. Plus, the DJ was playing music I recognized and appreciated. There were a number of TVs showing various sporting events. On looks alone, it is a winner.
We had the mussels appetizer. It was very good, particularly the both in which it was served. The dish included about a dozen mussels, the perfect portion size for the three of us.
My son and I shared the "Little Gem Louie" with crab. It was smaller than what I anticipated would be an entree sized salad. It had a deconstructed look, not your typical Louie salad. The crab meat was presented on the side of the salad instead of incorporated within. Although the presentation was unexpected, the dish very tasty and served its purpose for my son and I -- which was a precursor to our main course. My wife had the PB wedge with shrimp. She said it was excellent.
For our main courses, I had the ribeye with smoked fingerling potatoes, my son had the Spanish fish stew, and my wife had a bowl of clam chowder. While my and my son's entree's were very good, my wife was disappointed with the chowder. While I didn't taste it, it didn't look very appetizing. Instead of a creamy consistency, it had a brothy/grainy look. It was clearly the lowlight of the meal. But for this execution error, I would have given the restaurant a four-star review.
View of ocean was only redeeming thing. Food and service were not good
Fantastic Tuesday taco night and margarita night!
First time visit! Walked in sat at large bar before dinner. Cocktail menu really small print hard to read—greeted immediately by bartender happy to suggest a drink. It happened to be a Wednesday so raw starters were $10 and bottles of wine were half price—score! Oysters were delicious as was poke. Ceviche a tad too vinegary. Seated for dinner right on time. Booths plenty of room for party of four. We had chowder and salads for starters—all delightful. Entrees were: clam toast, fish and chips, octopus and Burger. The only disappointment was the fish and chips—fish was too greasy. All the rest were delish. We will come back.
Mom’s first visit to California!
Octopus was too exotic. Clam toast was different but good. I wouldn’t get either again but would try something else. I’m familiar with lox so I’d get something like that next time.
The corn fritters are to die for . The salmon is perfect and the view inside and out is incredibly entertaining and beautiful.
We are headed back next week to celebrate a friends birthday!
I have been here about 6 times. The setting and view cannot be beat. Gorgeous full windows that open out to the Pacific Beach Boardwalk, super cool decor, service has always been very good to great. Cocktails are top-notch. The food is the "eh" issue. Ceviche is very good. But for their prices the food needs to step up. For $18 the burger better be a dang good burger. It was just OK. Bacon was limp, crab on top was flavorless, fries were like any other bar. My cousin from the mid-west said the Lobster role had no flavor at all. Wedge salad was so-so. I went with a group of girlfriends another time for a birthday dinner. There was a band on a Wednesday night and it was so loud none of us could hear each other talk unless you were sitting right next to the person. All of them said they wouldn't go back for girls' dinner. The crowd is mostly young and hip and sunsets can't be beat, so maybe they don't need GF business, but wanted to weigh in on the whole picture so if you go you can be prepared!
The view cannot be beat and the service was outstanding. Our server was very knowledgeable about the food and drink options. We were not impressed by the food- especially for the price.
They made a special effort by getting us a table with a view for my birthday. They treated us well, had excellent food and gave us a free dessert. It was an excellent experience.
The food is incredible! I thought it was going to be basic bar food but it exceeded my expectations. The ocean views were amazing.
Ok place. Great place only if you get an oceanview seat
The service was excellent and the food was delicious.... there was great live music to catch the sun set. Highly Recommend!
Excellent service, view and food. Great family restaurant or date night location.
Really gorgeous interior, I love what they have done with this space!
The view was fantastic and good ambiance. The food was just ok. The service could use improvement.
I had heard great things about the food but was unprepared for the full on bar scene. My bad... It says "bar" in the name. There were people everywhere and even shoulder to shoulder with my husband while he was sitting down trying to eat. The food was really good but make sure you are ok with drunk 20 somethings wall to wall.
Food is good. Good people watching. Great sunset view. But loud as hell
The table at the window gave us a great sunset view, the table is small, but plenty of room between, so we were not crowded. The prompt and friendly service was followed by great food. The menu is small, but four of us each had a few favorites to choose from, we had seafood appetizers and entrees and all were tasty and served hot. Even with the high ceiling, the noise level was moderately high, but the Aztecs were playing on the few TV sets. With the “ no reservations on weekends” policy us old folks will probably visit only during the weekdays. But, we’ll still come back!
The food was too salty - I didn’t say anything until my husband mentioned the same issue with his food. It was loud but vibrant , fun upscale bar atmosphere with lots of beer to choose from. We ordered a bottle of wine, it was Wednesday so half off, which was a nice surprise. Probably wouldn’t go back unless it was with friends to watch a specific event - tv’s everywhere.
Too noisy, salads were pretty boring, somewhat overpriced for what you get, pedestrian dishes - Shrimp a la plancha didn't seem to be done that way at all, just a bunch of shrimp on a bed of corn and mayo sauce. etc...
Service was very quick and the food was excellent!
Gorgeous view, delicious food, and great service! This restaurant is a must visit!! Very happy and look forward to returning soon! 😊
