Wasabi Sabi in Winnipeg, Manitoba provides a fantastic sushi dining experience. Everything about the eatery is special from the modern looking décor and the cozy atmosphere to the fantastic food offered on the menu. Some of the raw specialties you might want to try include the fresh oysters, tuna tataki, red tuna carpaccio and the salmon carpaccio.
Wasabi Sabi has some tasty starters, too, such as the edamame, seared tuna salad and the black garlic scallops. Naturally, you can find plenty of fantastic sushi options on the menu, too. However, Wasabi Sabi has some hot specialties, as well. Consider the Wagyu beef, spicy king crab and the soft-shell crab.

Wasabisabi Ratings and Reviews
Definitely will return With other friends, highly recommend this restaurant! Great sashimi and sushi, nice service, romantic atmosphere. This is probably the best Japanese restaurant in Winnipeg! Online open table is so convenient, I left the message to them and said it's a private birthday meal, so find us somewhere quite, and they did it! We had a lot of fun here!
I reserved a table for my birthday party and did not realize that they also have private rooms. Once I arrived and saw the room, I requested if we can move and have our party in the room instead. The staff was very nice and helpful. All the dishes were hot and yummy! Excellent service! I had the best BD party ever.
We waited at least 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us, would be acceptable if the restaurant wasn't dead (Jets game). We got out first dish "Yuzu Truffle Butterfish" and wanted to try with Soy Sauce- server nowhere to be found, flagged down another server. He brought it for us, then gave a snooty remark saying "we don't serve that with the butterfish". Sorry, don't really enjoy under the breath remarks about how to eat the food we pay for! We've been to restaurants where the server explains this is the way the chef wanted us to try it, but this particular server made us feel like we were incompetent and not worthy to eat at their restaurant.
The food is beyond outstanding. It tastes great and is appropriately priced for the most part. The drinks are expensive. The service needs to be faster....you'll probably end up waiting for 30 minutes before your food comes out...that's the only downside. The Mahalo roll is a must try on the menu!
My wife and I frequent Wasabisabi on Taylor quite often and truly enjoy the back room area and are accommodated with a nice table when we make reservations ahead. The menu is quite extensive but make sure to inquire about items which are not on the menu as there are often some real gems if you ask. I might suggest that they update or change their off menu specials...the Bob Marley Roll is excellent but has been the special roll for way too long. Maybe add to the primary menu. The Valentine's Day Specials were absolutely fantastic. We really enjoyed the Crunchy Lobster Roll with apple slices and the fried crab claws lightly breaded were wonderful with the cream sauce and well presented. My wife usually is not a crab fan but was really into these as an appetizer. For those that are not into the raw items, such as my wife...they have some excellent hot plate items. My wife raved about the Cashew peanut crusted chicken which she said was perfectly done and moist. I have been to many Sushi Restaurants from Vancouver to Montreal and would not hesitate to recommend this location as one of the very best for quality and taste. Andy is one of the best sushi chefs around.
Our experience was fantastic!!!!!! my husband doesn't eat sushi but I do. He had the beef plate which was simply fantastic he said and I had two rolls that were the best. Our waiter asked us to try an appetizer which was the tempura prawns with delicious sauce and that was amazing!!! I would like to book for February 14, 2015 if I can.
There are 3 friends who make a point of going out for sushi once a month. This is the spot we pick most. We all love the ambiance and especially the food. I was always convinced that Wasabi anywehre makes the best Bakudan Roll in the city of Winnipeg and now I have converted one of these friends to the same. Never disappointed.
Had a guest from out of town to entertain and impress and everything went well. The appetizers, main courses and drinks were all superb. It made for a wonderful evening and our knowledgeable guest expressed how impressed she was with the sushi. The restaurant is a bit loud but we knew what to expect.
I found Wasabisabi to be a beautiful little place with a lot of attention to minor details that helped improve my experience before I even tasted the food. Once I did I was pleasantly surprised. The sushi is delicious but the appetizers were my favourite part of the night. The strongest deterrent to going back would be the high price of my meal.
The staff and the ambiance were welcoming. When we asked our server about items she recommended, she included favourites of patrons and included her own preferences. We appreciated her input.
The food was phenomenal! Everything we had was delicious. We have every intent of going back for the honey plum tuna, spicy mango prawns, new style and mahalo rolls. Yummy!
Fantastic as always! Sashimi is fresh and creative, unique flavors. Rolls are perfectly proportioned with rice, fish and so fresh! Delicious hand crafted cocktails. Excellent sized dishes great for sharing. Wasabi sabi is always our favorite and never disappoints.
Have been several times before and always look forward to the Butterfish.
This time however it was not very good at all. The presentation has changed and it was waaaayyyy too salty!!!
We were seated in the "silver" room which had no ambiance at all. It's lit up bright like a diner - no soft lighting at all and is separated from the main restaurant.
Rolls were just OK - nothing spectacular.
Might be a while before we go back.
I have high expectations for my sushi as we are lucky enough to have a lot of places in our city to choose from, but I am always happy with Wasabi. Never fails to deliver. Always fresh. Always creative. Always delicious. Definitely more modern take on sushi. If you feel like traditional though, I'd say it can keep up but there are other places that are a little better for that -- just because Wasabi is so good at the modern take. If you have a chance, try at least once to do bar seating by the kitchen; spark conversation with the chefs and watch them work diligently at creating each plate.
Pay attention: this is not another all-u-can-eat mediocre sushi joint. This is a pay-more, get-a-whole-lot-more, top notch quality restaurant. I love that their menu includes both traditional sushi (which is perfectly fresh, and boasts an impressive selection), as well as "new style" dishes that are creative, delicious, and gorgeously presented. And a nice side-benefit of this adventuresome menu is: they actually offer stunning desserts as well. None of this "green tea ice cream" nonsense; they offer a ginger creme brule that is out of this world.
