Walrus and Carpenter - Black Rock
We are pleased to see this vision through in the Bridgeport, CT neighborhood of Black Rock, a waterfront hamlet known for its rich history, local artists and small-town community feel.
And true to the American experience, we are an independent, family-owned and operated establishment, living and working in Black Rock with pride.
Come join us by train (Fairfield Metro Station), car (x24 off I-95) or bike (2895 Fairfield Avenue). We’ll see you soon!
Solid barbeque. Lovely staff for a quiet Sunday afternoon.
excellent, most excellent, truly excellent. i mean, excellent.
Great service! The appetizers were delicious! And the rib-eye for two was excellent!
The food was spot on, as always! Walrus and Carpenter never fails.
We enjoyed the great food and music at the Beatles Brunch. We will definitely do it again!
Server forgot to take our order after the drinks. Never checked back once food was delivered. There was a horrible odor coming from foyer and by the bar. The drinks we overpowering and the famous Frosè tasted like the ice machine never gets cleaned. The food was... nothing special. The Mac n cheese was more buttery than cheesy and the meat seemed a little undercooked. Overall, I gave points for the atmosphere. There was good lighting and beautiful cathedral ceilings. However, I wouldn’t recommend.
A foodies dream for Happy Hour!
What an amazing staff. They were able to accommodate extra guest last minute and sit 7 of us. This occurred right as they opened for business too. The chicken and waffles were amazing. The server did not miss a beat with all of our requests and drinks. Will be back to dine and brunch soon.
Went for dinner before a show. Unfortunately, had to leave after not getting main course after a 90 minute wait. Only after we told the wait staff that we had to leave were we told that they were under staffed, and overwhelmed. Would like to give them another try, as I’ve been told good things.
Ambiance, appetizers, and drinks were all great. Wait staff was kind enough to pick up our drinks. However certainly a bummer to leave on a mostly empty stomach.
Over the last year and a half to two years this place has SERIOUSLY gone down hill. The salads are usually amazing, the fries used to be thin and delicious and the burgers were flat patties that were really good. The corn bread - dense and moist. The salad was wet, I had approximately one crumble of bacon in it, the burger was essentially two meatballs between buns, the fries tasted as though they had come from the freezer and the cornbread had what seemed like a layer of lard on the bottom and it was crumbly and flavorless. It took about an hour to get our entrees and the service has consistently been terrible. So bummed because this was by far my favorite place around town and I tried to give it a few chances after I noticed changes, but will never come here again. So sad.
Very attentive staff. Great food. We were there early so it was very quiet but more tables filled as we were leaving.
Nice place visually and friendly staff. Unfortunately no one was really happy with their food. My ribs were tough and dry, not what I would expect from a BBQ Gastropub.
was good but surprised that the chicken liver was served with a layer of fat over it ... a bit too much for me .. the liver itself was delicious but the fat was not needed
Chicken and waffles were superb. Salad was a bit salty tho. The mimosas are delicious! A great size
The ribs amd brisket were delicious. Service was impeccable. It was Mothers Day so it was a little noisy but overall a great experience. I highly recommend.
Solid barbecue and drinks - good place to meet up with friends or entertain guests.
Place lives up to the hype. Loud but fun. Food was nothing short of spectacular. Brussels sprouts, burnt ends (must eat with pickle) southern fried chicken with sriracha honey, Chicken and waffles, Mac and cheese. It was all truly fabulous. Can’t wait to come back!
It was great!
Barely saw the server. Jambalaya is bland, do not recommend unless you want flavored rice. Loud interior and expect to sit really close to other tables. Better for group outings rather than dinner for two.
I met up with some friends for dinner & all 4 of us really enjoyed it. The poutine & pulled pork sandwiches were fantastic!
Food was very good! Service was fair, wait time for dinner was a bit long. The worst was the noise level, very loud. With that said I would go back.
Really enjoyed this spot. Casual atmosphere, great bbq legit sides and solid beer selection. Bar and two dining areas - one open for jovial gatherings, the other better for conversation. Get Dessert.
Our server was excellent. She was extremely attentive and very charismatic. The food was out of this world. It was a lovely experience.
So..ok...I’ve been referred to as “somewhat thrifty” and rarely leave my house for a meal, never mind traveling a half hour to do so. Since being introduced to this fine establishment on Easter 2018, we’ve been there 4 times, 3 for brunch(excellent value and menu) and once for dinner, which also checked all the boxes. I’ve recommended Walrus and Carpenter to pretty much everyone I know. Once you try it, you’ll be hooked!
I love this place. Best gastropub in the state! Live music on some nights is also great.
Great service very good food. The Roast Chicken is really good.
food and service very good. Decor is rather cold tho.. could be a lot cozier.
Real BBQ and great fried chicken. Even chess pie. Love this place!
The food is amazingly flavorful! The atmosphere is cozy and good for a get together with old friends.
I was disappointed after seeing other ratings and reviews. Staff was very nice and our waitress was wonderful. I was surprised they don't offer scotch (one of our party is a big Scotch drinker) nor Captain Morgan. The place is noisy. We sat down at 8:00, and by 9:00 it had cleared out a bit and was quieter. The special was prime rib, which was highly recommended, so 3/4 of our party ordered it. It was OK, cooked as ordered, but somewhat tough, and I didn't really like the smokey flavor. If we do go back will try the BBQ.
Good cocktail and beer choices. Apps and small plates are great way to sample menu. Smoked wings were excellent. Pork belly burnt ends were sublime. Great fries, very good ribs. Odd menu in a way in that you cannot get brisket or pulled pork unless on a sandwich. Brisket only on Thursdays. Strange, but still a great spot.
Waited over 30 min just to get a server come and take a drink order.....at that time we placed our order for everything. Waited at least 30 min for apps and had to ask for apps that were not served. Cleaned off our own table to make room for dinner, had to find our waiter to get more drinks for the kids and once I asked for a manger pot dinner finally came out. We saw tables come and go with whom came in at the same time or after us. Was very disappointed.
We went on New Year’s Eve! The fried chicken was delicious! (Tender on the inside and crispy on the outside.) Spicy honey barbecue sauce that came with it was also very good. Enjoyed the drinks as well as the ribs. There are many varieties of beer.
New Years. Great spot!
Really really love this place! Have been many times and it continues to be our favorite in town.
Great food!!!!! Lived up to it's reputation. The best chicken and waffles EVER!
Our waiter was exceptional!!!!!! Very pleasant, he checked on us several times but not overbearing. Restaurants need more wait staff like the gentlemen we had on Saturday evening.
We were there for lunch, which was quiet, so they seated us in the bar. My wife has an onion allergy and they were very accommodating. The bartender was helpful and engaging. The food was excellent.
Fun, creative menu- easy casual meal and good cocktails.
