Walnut Street Cafe
We always choose the Walnut Street Cafe when we come to Philadelphia - food is excellent, as is the service and overall ambiance.
Walnut Street Cafe is a great find within walking distance to 30th Street Station and World Cafe Live.
The food and service were very good; portions just right. The restaurant is very loud; difficult to hear our conversations at the table. Plenty of options for the vegetarian and vegan members of our group; options for carnivores as well. Desserts were lovely and yummy!
Our server was AWESOME, but the hostess was rude.
She directed us to the first table close to the front door where there was draft because it was cold outside. Three tables down (away from the door) there was an empty, identical table. When we asked if we could sit at that table she said, “no, that table is reserved for another party.” She gave no other explanation. We had a reservation ourselves and thought her comment was weird and her delivery of the message was off-putting, but we didn’t argue. At our table near the door, I sat in a chair facing the empty table. Every time the front door opened a cold draft came in.
Despite the draft we enjoyed the meal, wonderfully represented by the server, for about 75 minutes. During that time, not one guest was shown to, or ate at, the table we requested. Not one.
Would have rated the entire experience a 5 if it was for the hostess. She set the tables meticulously, but should not be encouraged to engage with customers.
Beautiful place with beautiful staff! Food and drinks are amazing!
The food was very good, but the service was way too slow. We arrived a little after 5:30 on a Saturday evening, when there was hardly anyone in the restaurant, and couldn't leave until around 7:40, just barely making it to our 8 p.m. concert.
Attractive space. Quite noisy. Service commendable but inexperienced. Food tasty but priced beyond value. Cheese plate is insulting for the price. Entrees do not include a salad or a vegetable yet are priced like they do. Simple pasta dish with nothing else for that price is not competitive. Not the Philly food scene I’m used to. Would not recommend this place. Desserts were poor at best. And if you order coffee I hope it doesn’t take more than the 25 minutes it took us. Had to leave before it was served. Poorly done. Look elsewhere.
expertly cooked hake was a highlight. Portions are small however
The restaurant itself is beautiful. However, the food is very over-priced for what it is. I had a hard time choosing an option because it did not seem appealing especially for the cost. They were also out of pastries. The Bloody Mary was mediocre. Definitely not worth the cost. There are other brunch options that are tastier, cheaper and more fun.
This was our second visit here, and again it did not disappoint. We loved all the food and the service is always excellent. We’ve decided to make it our regular spot for brunch, so we’ll definitely be back!
The food and drinks were amazing. We got the Eggs Benedict and Breakfast Sandwich for brunch. Alongside our meals we tried some of their pastries which were an added bonus! Great spot for Sunday Brunch!
Great little cafe. Went for brunch with my wife. Can't say enough about the service. They really went above and beyond for even the smallest detail. Food and drinks were great. The relaxed moderately-upscale cafe atmosphere creates a lovely oasis to think, chat, or take in the surroundings.
Great ambience but poor service. First of all, have you ever heard of a place that has run out of burgers on a Friday evening? That was the only kids-friendly option on the menu (which is already quite limited), and the only reasonably priced item. Another small plate item was also missing.
Service was rather poor. The forgot about 1 cocktail and 2 salad...which all came after we were done with the main course (the hotel manager was kind enough to make them complimentary though).
Personally, I love smily and friendly servers...which was not the case last evening. She was excessively serious and pretentious.
Lovely place once you aren’t in any rush! Nice ambience, decent food, but service is very slow despite there being a wealth of staff. Staff were very nice, but there is a long delay between orders and receipt, even for drinks such as beer and wine. Nonetheless we enjoyed ourselves as we weren’t in a hurry.
Excellent. Try the Pinot Gris from Oregon!
We waited 3 hours for our food. Waited over 20 minutes to receive drinks, and 40 minutes to receive soup. The lobster bisque was also not lobster bisque. They also ran out of burgers but it took them 2 hours to figure that out so my friend sat there without food for over 2 hours. They gave me a free bday dessert but then added it to the check so that also took more time.
Our waitress was super nice, but no one ever gave us a heads up on time or accommodated for the fact that we were there for so long. We were there from 6-9:30 and it wasn’t by choice. However the place was beautiful and the people were nice.
Great spot for a business lunch. The burger was superb and the wedge salad was also excellent.
The food was quite good. Ricotta on toast was excellent, burger and Ceaser salad were also quite tasty.
Some of the portion sizes were modest, and the price was too high relative to alternative values.
The wine list has gone down hill. Who wants to drink a German Pinot noir when the best come from Oregon and France? Won’t go back until the wine list improves.
I came here with about 11 of my friends for my birthday brunch and the entire staff was so incredible. They were flexible when we wanted to add an extra person outside of our reservation and they were accommodating with the seating. The restaurant itself was very trendy and chic and made for a great spot to celebrate.
Two out of the three brunch meals we ordered (Eggs Benedict and Two Eggs Any Style) were very subpar. The person who ordered the Eggs Benedict was extremely disappointed. The only person satisfied was the one who ordered the Breakfast Sandwich, which was apparently very good.
Had my Birthday brunch with group of 6. Every aspect of this place is stellar apart from the timing of service. It is painfully slow receiving drinks and food. The staff is wonderfully kind so I gather it’s the bartenders and kitchen holding things up.
Food was great, waiters were amazing and accommodating, and overall had a great time
disappointing service - inattentive and slow. total package seems to have deteriorated since our last visit a few months back. not very busy for a Friday evening (7:30 reservation.)
Excellent service, quality and prep. Porterhouse for 2 is one of the best I have ever had. Chicken and sides fresh and prepared perfectly. We keep going back!
Very nice, but predictable food. If your group includes unadventurous palates, then this is a safe choice. I.e., high-end American fare.
Service was great and loved the ambiance. Parking was also very close. However, the food was expensive and very bland. Would come back for the cocktails but not for the food.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KOUIGN AMANN?!?! This was one of the top reasons I come to walnut street. I’m not sure if I’d come back. The food was ok, but the pastries were the best in the city. Please bring them back!!!!
Just want to compliment the hostess who was working this past Friday night. She was very thoughtful and considerate!!! My friend who I was having dinner with is confined to a wheelchair. Also we had another friend join us at the last minute. Thanks to the hostess, she was able to arrange a table to easily accommodate all of us. Also she couldn’t have been nicer about it. Lastly really appreciate the bartender and waiter too. By the way, the food was excellent !!!
The food was mediocre and took forever to come out. Plus, they had run out of several items. The waitress barely checked in on us. And I had made a reservation for 12 people for a special occasion and no one told me that my party would essentially have to sit at two separate tables. The restaurant did nothing to make it right. To top it off, along with my over 200 check, they gave me a walnut even though I specifically told them that my child had a severe nut allergy. Very disappointing.
A beautiful brunch. Lovely atmosphere (bright, invigorating) with a carefully curated menu that offers a good mix of sweet and savory. I loved the twist on Eggs Benedict—served with lox on brioche toast. I don’t think I’ve had a better version in my life. Also, beautiful pastries and desserts and a high-quality tea program.
A great dining experience. Will definitely be back.
The four of us had cocktails, wine, some appetizers, main plates and dessert. Everyone was so happy with each of their delicious and beautiful courses. The cocktails were great. All of the staff, from the front desk to our server and the sommelier were knowledgeable and friendly. Although the room was pretty packed, we were able to hold a conversation. The cost , while not inexpensive, was equal to value. I have had great lunch there previously, this was first dinner for all.
Service is great, food could use a touch up. While the food is classic, yet made well, it could use an extra touch. I got the french toast, which was thick, fluffy brioche, toasted perfectly. However it could use a little more flavor (I suggest just a some vanilla and cinnamon). I also ordered a spicy bloody mary which was spicy but not tasty unfortunately. The drink tasted more like horseradish than actual bloody mary mix. The coffee comes out steaming from the pitchers, however, upon actually drinking it, the coffee is cold. This was rather confusing and disappointing as it looked hot and steamy when being poured but was actually quite chilly. My mind leads towards poorly insulated pitchers that release built up condensation. Despite the food and drinks being slightly average, overall the experience just might have made up for it. Our server was attentive, not intrusive, but also informative when w asked questions. A muffin was forgotten on our initial order so it was taken off of our check, which was unnecessary (considering how good their pastries are), but much appreciated. I unfortunately cannot remember our servers name but they were excellent and very much made up for the points the sub par food had scored. The decor and ambiance was also very well put together. We went for brunch, it was somewhat busy but very adorable and all staff was attentive. The bar is a cute place for a quick photo opp and the overall vibe of the place is something i'd highly recommend at least experiencing once. They also leave walnuts on top of their check presenters which is such a marvelous little touch! How sweet!
The service of the wait staff was out of this world. Amber was awesome, friendly and very professional.
We had a wonderful brunch! Everything was delicious and we’re definitely thinking of making it our regular meet-up for brunch once a month.
No table service
I am coming here almost every day for over a few month, and so far I did not get tired of the food, service, ambiance, etc.
Excellent atmosphere. Food and wine list are excellent as well. One of my favorite restaurants in Philly!
