Walnut Creek Branch - La Sen Bistro
Come join La Sen Bistro for a glass of wine and a taste of French-California cuisine. Cheers to good food and great companies. Bon Appetit!
Service and food are perfectly paired. Quaint little restaurant with full French flavour.
Amazing food, good service and decent atmosphere. Good location within Walnut Creek
An outstanding gem in Walnut Creek; please do not tell anyone. Waitperson knew the menu and wines and helped us choose.
Never had a better meal in Walnut Creek!
We went to La Sen Bistro to celebrate my brother's 55th birthday. The food was lovely. The service was good. The restaurant was mostly quiet and we had a great time. The pot au creme with candle that they presented my brother was the topper of a great lunch.
La Sen has become one of my favorite Walnut Creek restaurants. I have eaten here four or five times and have neve4 been disappointed. The foos is always outstanding, the service excellent, and the restaurant quiet so one can easily hear the table conversation. What more could one want? On my last visit, both my guest and I ordered the cream of asparagus soup and the crab cake salad — both superb!
Great food, superb service. Third time here in last few months. Will go again
La Sen was wonderful. When we ordered one dessert and said we were going to split it they served it to us on 2 different plates. I have never had that happen before. I have taken friends there on several occasions and will continue to do so.
Excellent food in nice small setting. Would highly recommend.
All 4 entrees very tasty , felt like lots of thought went into these dishes. nice presentation especially on desserts. Place was full on a Sunday evening. Glad we had reservations.
We’ll be back !😊
Onion soup was excellent as was the lamb except that two of the four chops were a bit fatty. Ratatouille was fine but a little starch could have helped.
We ordered one Pot de creme for desert and one coffee. The desert cane after a short wait but no coffee. We ate the desert. We asked for the check and told the waiter to forget the coffee. He seemed annoyed in that he then told us a fresh pot was brewing. He mentioned “ I can’t rush the pot”. Not a good response. He should have told us earlier that a fresh pot of coffee was coming, and we would have waited with the desert. Coffee took so long that we thought it wasn’t coming
What started as very friendly and adequate service, finished with unnecessary acrimony. Not necessary.
We enjoyed the Concord location more
The food was excellent. The service was OK. The ambience was a bit uninspiring.
A wonderful dinner in a charming restaurant. Vichyssoise was appropriately decadent, as were desserts. Duck breast was perfectly prepared, and they have a limited but lovely wine list. Seated next to a French woman (always a good sign when natives are customers), I even got to practice speaking the language. We would definitely return.
Cute place. We were initially seated right next to the front bar/kitchen and when we asked to be moved to a table with a better view, they graciously obliged. Their fresh bread and the cilantro dip were loved by everyone at our table...we went for seconds. The rest of our meals were fine, salmon was fine, lasagne was fine, pork chop a little dry. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to write home about either. I would go again given the nice environment, nice spacing between tables and gracious staff.
We had a wonderful birthday dinner for our son at this French restaurant in Walnut Creek. Two people ordered the duck, two ordered the salmon, and one ordered the scallops. In order to accommodate our daughter in law who is pregnant, the chef offered to cook the salmon without white wine. Everyone raved about the food. For dessert we ordered one of everything on the menu, except the soufflé, and shared each dessert with the table. It was a delicious meal in a nice small restaurant.
Excellent French food at reasonable prices
Busy but food was good
Muy buen ligar la comida muy rica con una buena textura
Took a friend who hadn't been to a French restaurant in over 40 years. She ordered the mussels and was in heaven! My wife got the scallops (she always gets the scallops) and was very pleased. I tried the duck breast. Wow! Loved it. Waiter was friendly and informative. Was a bit distracted by the wait staff chatting nearby. They may want to consider talking more quietly since the tables are so close to where the wait staff is. Crème Brulee was good--wish the portion was a tad bit bigger! :-) Overall definitely a 5 star experience. We will be back.
Great food, great prices, great service. Excellent atmosphere too.
This restaurant is a bit pricey for the environment they have, food and service are good so.
The only thing that took out of our otherwise good experience is the young male waiter who was not impolite, but he was abrupt in his responses without giving options when the item was not available. This restaurant deserves a better qualified waiter. For desert we were served by a very pleasant and knowledgeable lady who is probably the owner.
Food was cooked well, thoroughly enjoyed the pan roasted duck breast. The food really made me feel content and satisfied. We spent 2 hours in there and the food took a while, but I understand it was busy because of valentines day. Our waiter also brought us the wrong bottle of wine, but I also take part of the blame because I didn't check. The main downside to this dining experience was that it was pouring outside and the front door was flooded with rain water. There was no effort made to attempt to keep it dry. We practically had to leap over the puddle right when we walked in and it was a bit dangerous. Then we got seated right in front of the door and it got chilly since the door was constantly being opened. So it probably wasn't the best cozy romantic French dining experience for Valentines Day, but definitely go for the food.
Our Valentines dinner was ruined at this restaurant but having been there before, I feel the food is quite good. We had a reservation which was made 6 weeks prior and we were on time. We placed our order and we received a basket of bread. Then we sat for 45 minutes without any food. All the while one of the waiters was eating and drinking wine in the kitchen in my full view.
We left and had a nice dinner down the block with excellent service and no reservation.
Wonderful french food in a casual atmosphere. The food is consistently good and unpretentious
We loved our dinner here, all food is excellent, the scallops were amazing and the duck breast incredible.
We will keep going back, as the wine list is interesting and approachable, as well. The only thing that could be better is the service. Its a bit unprofessional at times and not very friendly. The owner cares and is very nice. Salads are delicious!
Had dinner with my wife Sunday night. We loved la Sen in the Concord location and have visited the WC location before. We found that the prices have gone up considerably so it's not a bargain anymore and for that reason we should expect more. We enjoyed the food a lot! This continues to be the best thing about the restaurant. However we had a problem with the ambience. First of all the lighting in the back part is so bright it gives the impression of a cafeteria vs a cozy French bistro. We asked to move to the front part for dessert and we did, but this put us in conflict with the staff priority of setting up for the next day. We had to be content to skip the table cloth and also look at the vacuum cleaner which was inside the front door. Also in our field of vision were all the chips of paint kicked off the wall by the bar patrons. All this diminished our dining experience. Although the food continues to be excellent, we were disappointed by these other aspects of the restaurant.
Everything was excellent, food was delicious , service was professional and efficient
We were sad when the concord location closed, but we were so pleased to have our favorites on the menu. I can never pick anything but the duck breast because it is always prepared perfectly and the flavors are exceptional. This time I did try the crab cake salad....an enthusiastic two thumbs up for it!! My husband had the cauliflower soup, which was a special, it did NOT disappoint. The winner of the night was the special chicken roll...all I can say is WOW! The flavors were fantastic with a bacon au jus topping it and the chicken was tender and juicy.
We will be returning quickly.
Perfect little French restaurant with good prices and very good food. And you can hear each other speak! The bread came with a tasty pesto sauce for spreading. We shared food so we could try more- Crab cake salad and duck confit salad were very tasty and the thinly sliced apples paired with both nicely. Saffron salmon was crispy w/ a delicious saffron sauce and fresh, young peas. The mussels and garlic fries, also delicious, in a rich cream sauce that required our using bread to soak up more of the sauce so as not to waste it. There were a variety of mussels, all cooked until tender and not overcooked in the least. Pots de creme split for dessert was rich and wonderful, like a perfect dark chocolate truffle without its shell. Waiter was very helpful and present. We enjoyed our lunch very much and will be back for dinner.
La Sen is a quaint French bistro nugget in the heart of Walnut Creek. The ambiance is simple, rustic, and provincial. The service is quite personable with great recommendations. Having lived in Paris I would equate the quality and style of the food to most any place we tried in France. The only thing missing is the French language. We will visit La Sen again and again.
Love their food, wonderful soups and salads. Crab cake and lamb are always great. The profiteroles and creme brûlée are my favorite deserts there. Everyone Was very pleased with there food.
We have returned to La Sen several times and have always enjoyed our experience. We had the Chicken Roulade special and Duck Breast with Creme Brûlée to top it off. Both cooked to perfection and delicious. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable. Plan to return again soon.
Celebrated a friends birthday and everything from food to service to cozy and warm environment was next level!
Superb as always
Great food! I was there for lunch, we had a table by the window and were able to linger. I would love to return at night for a romantic dinner.
Great selection of food and service. Friendly staff and great friendly owners. Owners published a beautiful cook book with their original recipes. We brought it and had the owners sign it.
We had a nice, quiet lunch with delicious food and excellent service. We will definitely return.
Very nice French style Bistro with the feel of a Parisian neighborhood gem. This is a very affordable and delightful French addition to WC. We will go back for sure. It’s French homey at its best. If you are the type of person that enjoys wondering around Paris looking for that very special local gem, then this is your place.
first time visit - went there (2 couples) for a birthday dinner. Nice ambience but everything was surprisingly good - really exceptional. Easy to find good restaurants in the area but this was a notch above -at the same price level as the others. Service was a match for the food. I will be a regular here.
We have eaten at La Sen many times since they opened and have ALWAYS had a great meal at a reasonable price for the quality and selection. Highly suggest having a reservation since they are pretty popular! And PLEASE have the great onion soup. This meal we had the duck breast, Cesar salad, rib eye steak (special), crab cakes and of course onion soup. Oh, wonderful wine list too.
