Wally's Desert Turtle Ratings and Reviews
Our second time at Wally's was as great as the first! Excellent service and deliciously prepared food exceeded our expectations. We started out with the foils Grass, then a Caesar Salad. I recommend both. The fois bras was cooked, not raw like a pate. The Caesar came with a Parmesan cheese crisp and one crouton. For entrees, I had the Maple Leaf Seared Duck Breast and my husband had the Skillet Sautéed Creekstone New York Steak. For dessert we couldn't pass up the Vahlrona Chocolate Soufflé! I love the swanky atmosphere at Wally's. Thank you for an amazing meal and experience!
This was my first visit to Wally’s, I was however very familiar with the restaurants ‘legendary’ fame. We found the restaurant a true ‘throwback ‘ to those earlier days of the desert which was exactly what we wanted. The atmosphere, personal, and food are definitely ‘old school’ we thought the prices were exceptional good especially considering the quality and preparation of the wood. The wine list was fairly priced with a decent selection of half bottles. I was surprised to get a quality ‘call brand’ martini at a below market price. A great find, unfortunately these restaurants Years are numbered.
Filet with crusted horse radish was incredible. Pear tart and chocolate dessert was even better. Wine list has some very affordable excellent cabs. Wait staff was top shelf. Slow greeting and seat at table when all tables were empty is the only thing that keeps this from being our best restaurant experience ever.
This is a true fine dining restaurant. You walk in and it feels authentically "old school". Many of their staff have been employed there for decades and are outstanding. If you are coming to the valley, this is a MUST. We have dined in many places but this place stands out. This is now our favorite Coachella Valley restaurant and we will bring friends to experience it. The food was amazing but the showstopper is the soufflé. It is definitely worth every penny. Put this restaurant at the top of your must visit list.
We went to Wally's as a Christmas treat - we were visiting from the UK. It was everything I had hoped for. Impeccable food, good quality service ( if a little rushed at the end) and an excellent wine list. Our meal was beautifully presented and as delicious as it looked. The oysters were as fresh as the ocean and the lamb racks superb. This is an elegant restaurant, which I would recommend to anyone that seeks out something a little more special than the usual fare and experience elsewhere.
After living in the desert for 14 years, it was time to check out Wally's Desert Turtle, and no better occasion than a birthday celebration during the Christmas holidays. My initial reaction? Wow! I opened the front door to find a gorgeous Christmas tree all decorated in Hawaiian anthurium flowers. Perfect, my friend is part Hawaiian. Once inside, our table gave us a bird's eye view of the entire restaurant. We ordered appetizers, salads and two entrees. You can't beat the food, and the service is exemplary! In fact, the restaurant provided cake, and a sax player in honor of my friend's birthday. So please, do yourself a favor, and treat your loved ones to Wally's Desert Turtle. It's the gift that lasts a lifetime.
Christmas menu was limited.
Salad was very good, rolls hot. Pork and beans (okay, I guess they call them tiny lentils to be fancy). It was just too much plate decoration in my opinion) around 3-4 small pork tenderloin pieces -- left lots to be desired, one small cube of pork belly was very good, full of flavor. Veggie was one small carrot and one baby zucchini. Dessert was very well presented and flavorful.
Wife: Turkey, spinach, 1/4 small sweet potato were good. Gravy was wonderful and they left it on the table. The cranberries were served by the waiter but took the sauce tureen - wish they had left it like the gravy. Dressing was unusual - did not like it
I was hoping for rack of lamb. They would not serve it on Christmas. Darn......
We had a late seating since that was all that was available. It was rather on the crowded side and the vegetables were way over done and dry. The dessert left a lot to be desired. Best not to go on a holiday weekend. The waiter was a bit on the grumpy side.
It was my home away from home this season ! I took friends for lunch and the fashion show twice and other friends on Christmas Eve. It was perfect each time. Our friends from Santa Barbara had been evacuated and came to the desert and Wally's is their favourite restaurant ! So it brought a little sunshine in to their lives and made them forget all their troubles at home. Thanks you for making this Holiday Season very special for us. We will return often. Fondly Margo Ritter and Pete Hammond
The service was top notch as usual; food impeccably prepared. The Special Christmas menu had excellent choices. Our only complaint was the extremely small portion of the chateaubriand. That specific selection was an additional $23 for the fixed price menu; and was literally three of the smallest slices I have ever seen. Definitely not worth the extra cost. Luckily the short rib portion was too large for our daughter, so she was able to share hers. Still a 5 Star meal, but would never order that one again.
"Wally's" is the deserts jewel! It comprises all the elements a 3 Michelin restaurant must possess: sophisticated ambiance; a French chef (Pascal Lallemand), with a passion for elegant yet innovative and unique cuisine; a charming and courteous staff all under the detail oriented and amazing leadership of his owner Michael and beautiful wife Nicole!
We frequently enjoy Wally's for many years including, a annual girls Christmas luncheon. We plan this to coordinate with the Friday Fashion Show which makes it even more special. Beautifully decorated for the season. Food and service is excellent. I highly recommend Wally's.
